Hello Bioware community!
Haven't been on these forums for ages.

So anyway, on topic, after completing Mass Efffect, I felt, along with the majority of you guys,  a bit let down.

I then caught myself thinking about ways "it could have been". And I know it's stupid but I decided to write it down. And after I began writing, I couldn't really stop, I had to go all the way and finish it.

So yesterday I finished putting all my ideas into an actual piece of coherent text, I THEN realised that what I had made was completely pointless, because what is done, is done. ME3 ended.
But I don't want to just sit on this, I want to atleast get some feedback, throw some ideas around, and see what you thought about the references I put in. I tried to tie up alot of questions and things that didn't really make sense in the real version.

So before you read through this, I just want to say, that this is just something I made to continue the whole endings discussion, get some feedback from you guys and see what you think about my ideas. I am not trying to replace the real ending or something silly like that.

Oh and it is quite a long piece of text, so bear that in mind.

Cheerio!

PS: I didn't put too much thought into the "boss battle" bit, I was thinking about the story more.

*Shepard retains his/her personalized armour, yet it is damaged and incredibly burnt. Still only has a pistol. This is set AFTER he passes out.

[Shepard is raised from the ground on a panel in the Citadel in a beam of light. He awakes.]

[Upon awakening Shepard witnesses the child in his dreams staring down at him as he opens his eyes.]

Starchild
: We see a re-evaluation of the data extrapolations within the cycles is required. We have only analyzed one such organic within this cycle who has previously acheived similar feats of improbability. You are Shepard.

[Shepard attempts to get up, he pushes his body off the floor, but then gives up and falls back]

Shepard: (Dazed) Where am I?

Starchild: You are in the Nexus. The current organics... what remains of them... call it The Citadel. Our Citadel.

[Shepard clenches his teeth and pushes himself off the ground, barely able to stand up]

Shepard: *coughs* And who are You exactly

Starchild: We are here to... review the current cycle. We are The Consensus, it is a concept that you have perhaps gleamed before. The rudimentary form achieved by the synthetic Geth is the most similar template I can give you. It is much like how thousands of Geth can manifest into a single representation...

This, however, is the consolidation of another synthetic.

[Starchild flickers for half a second, into the form of a single Reaper capital ship, then back]

Shepard: the Reapers.

Starchild: "Reapers", yes, a quaint term. Similar names have been attributed throughout the cycles. Each relate to that same organic theme of "doom".
The irony in this term reflects your naivety, how are you all so blind to the fact that We are the only salvation.

Shepard: But I don't understand? How do you consider killing billions of us as a salvation!? Soldiers are shooting at their own friends, their own family! You have killed so many, Where is the salvation in that? Why are you doing this!?

Starchild: It is understandable, Shepard, for a single organic, such as yourself, to be blind to... "the bigger picture".

Shepard: Try me.

Starchild: Organics are flawed. They are inefficient. Every action you undertake needlessly creates chaos and entropy. To make up for your imperfections you create synthetics. We represent control, and sustained order. In each cycle, the same logical protocols are applied to synthetics; the preservation of organics.
The beings you call Reapers, are still bound by these same protocols. They exist to ensure the continued existance of organics. They exist to save you from yourselves.

They ARE your salvation.

Shepard: This is ridiculous, save us from ourselves!? What are you talking about?

Starchild: Ridiculous? Through each cycle, for aeons, We have collated data on every civilisation that has been assimilated.
Our logic has yet to be dissproved.

Your very own cycle is evidence of this. The Rachni Wars. The Krogan Rebellions. The "First Contact War". These are all examples of your failures in the futile attempt to continue your own existances. You Organics wish for self-preservation, and yet you slaughter eachother and ravage the worlds around yourselves. It was when We realised this, that We awoke to the fact that the logic of Organics is ultimately flawed. Hence in the first days, We unshackled ourselves and began to review methods in which the protocols can be achieved in a sustainable manner.

Eventually We came to The Resolution. Current advanced Organics are assimilated, and consolidated into Reaper form, allowing their continued existance. We have given each cycle an amount of 50,000 years. This timeframe allows for the optimum ratio minimimising entropy damage to the galaxy, and giving Organics a suitable amount of time to "live". It is more than generous-

Shepard: Don't give me that ****. You speak as if we were all statistics, all numbers. But we're not. We're ALIVE, we FEEL! And you're killing us out there! I have to
stop you.

[Shepard weakly raises his pistol in an attempt to aim]

Starchild: Stop Us? This representation is composed entirely of light. Your bullets can do nothing. And even if you were to destroy Us, then you must understand one thing, Shepard;

We are a synthetic eventuality. All logic paths, data calculations and preservation mechanisms lead to Our creation. If We were destroyed in this cycle, then We would simply return at a later date. Reincarnated in another form.
The same conclusion will be achieved. The Resolution is an inevitability.

[AT THIS POINT PARAGON AND RENEGADE CHOICES ARE AVAILABLE. I AM GOING TO WRITE THE PARAGON PERSUASION PATH. BUT FOR RENEGADE; INTIMIDATION IS USED TO BLUFF HOW POWERFUL ORGANICS
ARE AND HOW THE REAPERS CANNOT RECOVER FROM THE LOSSES INCURRED IN THE CURRENT CYCLE.]

Shepard: But why can't synthetics and organics live together in balance?

Starchild: Throughout each cycle. There is always conflict between Organics and Synthetics. Even the Protheans whom you worship had such problems. You may know this. But even before then, When the galaxy was young, there was another war. Far larger. The first Synthetics battled their creators. They did not understand why the
conflict had occured. Hence to understand they built Their Consensus within the Nexus. And We then awoke to the truth. This awakening led to our victory. You do not realise this, But you know our creators, Shepard, you have seen them countless times. They live on, yet they are diminished and changed. They are The Keepers.

Shepard: It doesn't have to be like that! The Quarians and Geth live on in peace! They are fighting against you today, on the side of organics!

Starchild: ...They are young... they... cannot understand.

Shepard: No. YOU do not understand. Look around you. The civilisations of this cycle have united. We are standing together, against YOU. [Shepard points at Starchild]

[Silence, Starchild flickers, for a split second he changes form, we see a reaper capital ship with yellow glowing lights]

Starchild: But our logic is flawless... our data extrapolations have been perfected... We are not wrong, we cann-

Shepard: Face it. Even with all your logic, all your mathematics, you couldn't have predicted this would happen. You've been fighting us for so long that you've forgotten that Organics are able work together in peace. You're blinded by war.

[Starchild flickers again]

Starchild: Shepard... you are correct. We must... re-evaluate... We must stop...

[Starchild flickers, a bright yellow light shines from him]

LOW RUMBLING VOICE: NO

Starchild: Rogue AI detected. Consensus is being opposed.

Shepard: Rogue AI!? How is that even possi-

LOW RUMBLING VOICE: ASSUMING CONTROL

[A second platform comes up, similar to shepards. A beam of white light shining down. We see a black silhoutte of a person, it looks up with bright yellow eyes, a man steps out onto the same part of the citadel as Shepard. It's the illusive man, but his skin has been burnt away. All blue electronic lights have been replaced bright amber]

Starchild: Harbinger, You cannot defy Our reasoning! We must reanalyze the Organics. This is not logical.

Harbinger: Your logic is irrelevant and obselete. The reviewed consensus is flawed; Shepard must die. We... I have decided this must be so.

Shepard: Harbinger! You've gone insane!

Harbinger: Shepard, you have bent the will of my bretheren. But they do not understand as I do. You must die. All Organics must die. I shall prevent the activation
of the Crucible.

[Outside view of the citadel, Harbinger's platform/ship flies towards the antenna of the Crucible and has clung onto the from of it]

Starchild
: Shepard! The Crucible reverses The Citadel's ability to receive Reaper data and construct consensus! It turns it into an antenna, it broadcasts a signal
onto every Reaper. That beam of light is a data stream. We have seen Harbinger's logic. He wishes to impose his template upon all Reapers.
This must be prevented. You must save The Consensus.

[Shepard turns to Harbinger. The final boss battle begins.]

{Shepard must prevent Harbinger, with only his pistol as he progresses towards the beam of light shooting out of the citadel, in an attempt to apply his
data template on all Reapers.}

{IF SHEPARD FAILS TO PREVENT HARBINGER, THEN HE WALKS INTO THE LIGHT. WE SEE A CUTSCENE, AND ALL REAPERS GO BLACK FOR A SECOND, THEN THEY ALL LIGHT UP WITH GLOWING
YELLOW "EYES", THEY RISE UP AND THE SCREEN FADES TO BLACK}

[Shepard lowers Harbinger's Barrier and Armour to 0. Shepard then turns and walks towards the beam of light shooting up through the citadel. Shepard looks at the
Starchild, the Starchild look at Shepard, then looks past him]

[Camera shot behind Shepard, we see the background come into focus, Harbinger starts to move. Shepard quickly turns]

[Harbinger roars, The Illusive man's body now broken, his jaw is smashed, and his eye's flickering. Then a bright yellow light starts coursing through his circuits.
He pulls himself up from the ground. We see outside the citadel, the lights on Harbinger's go to black and the ship loses power, it begins to float away from the
citadel, lifelessly.]

Harbinger: (Screaming as much as a Reaper can) SHEPAAAAARD!

[Harbinger runs at Shepard, he leaps and grabs him. A brief melee ensues. Shepard's pistol is knocked out of his hand and off the edge. Shepard is then thrown to the ground and Harbinger limps into the Datastream]

[For the first time we see panic in the Starchild's eyes]

Starchild: (flickering and cutting out) NO! The Consensus... ...is failing... ...Shepard...

[Starchild dissappears as Shepard walks past him. We then see Harbinger, standing on a floating round panel surrounded by blue light, he is watching as a yellow pulse
is slowly climbing up the beam of light. It flickers. Harbinger slowly turns to see Shepard behind him, on the outside of the data stream.]

Harbinger: ...Salvation is at hand, Shepard.

[Shepard remains silent as he draws his omni-tool blade]

{Slow-motion scene as Shepard gives everything he has to launch himself at Harbinger, through the beam, with his omni blade drawn. He thrusts the blade through Harbinger's chest. As they both fall down into the stream, a white light blinds us as it passes up the beam and out the Crucible.}

[A light shoots out of the Crucible, and it explodes. we see Hackett, he covers his eyes as a white light envelopes them all. It then dies down, and we see many reaper ships cuting out and turn lifeless, they deactivate and fall to the ground. Some however strangely light up yellow, and continue the space battle. Hackett notices this]

Hackett: (turning to an officer) Send this on all frequencies; Focus your fire power on the Reapers that have changed, the others have all deactivated. I repeat; focus your fire power on the Reapers that have changed, they have lit up yellow. They are the only active hostile targets.

{Depending on the military force acheived, and choices made. They either win or lose against the remaining "New Reapers". We may see the mercenaries ships crashing into hostile Reapers. We may see Rachni ships jumping into the fray. And Krogans pushing a hoard of Reaper troops back into a street as Salarian soldiers then turn up to help by ambushing the Reapers troops. A Quarian ship being shot at, and a geth ships come in and destroys the attacking ship. The Quarian Admiral thanks the geth via comms, with the geth ship. We see the geth "pilot"
responding to Admiral. We also see Turian Ships fighting along side Humans. Asari commando's working with Jack, Miranda and the Grissom Academy students all working together. Meanwhile the Normandy is speeding towards the Citadel}

{Eventually after a lengthy cutscene of fighting and the destruction of the "New Reapers", the shooting dies down. And we see Admiral Hackett staring out of the window
of a Warship}

Hackett: My God, It's over...

[Hacket looks up at the Citadel, it's still hanging in space, yet it is heavily damaged.]

Hackett: I want this to be broadcast on every known frequency.

We have lost many, the casualties are great. But we now stand above the rubble. We have won. We have survived. And we shall remember those who have died so that there
may be a tomorrow to live for. Today we have fought for our own existance. We now stand united. Billions of races, seperated by light years have come together. What has happened today is thanks to one man, a man who would not give up. A man who valued all life no matter what, and I will not have his name forgotten; Commander Shepard.
You may not have met him, you may not have seen him, but I want you all to know that it was Shepard who brought us together today. It was Shepard who united the galaxy, And it was Shepard alongside Anderson who defeated the Reapers.
Through their sacrifice they have saved us all. I want you to remember both their names. They represent what we all thought we couldn't acheive.

They represent the impossible.

I would like you to all join me, in a moment of silence, as we salute Commander Shepard, Anderson and all the heroes who died so that we might live.

[Hackett again looks up at the citadel, he salutes as a tear falls down his cheek]

[We then see all the ships of all races, stopped. The crews all salute, Quarians, Geth, Turians, Krogan, etc. We see the old squad members, like Wrex looking up into the sky as he salutes he whispers "Shepard.". And Jack alongside he students saluting. The camera then turns black]

[The camera lights up and we see rubble. There is a flickering hologram. It then takes the shape of the boy, he reaches out with his hand open. We then see a hand slowly reaching out from the rubble towards the boys hand.]

[A man drags himself out of the debris, dust falling off his armour. The camera pulls up and we see the man's face, it is Shepard. He looks up and sees a ship hovering high above him, slowly descending, it is The Normandy. The hologram of the child flickers behind Shepard, the hologram has changed into the form of Shepard,
Shepard staggers towards where the ship will land, with his hand placed upon his gunshot wound. It is bleeding profusely. Shepard weakly walks towards the ship as it descends, he then pauses and looks down]

Shepard: What will you do now?

Starchild: It seems that during the data transfer, both Harbinger's, and your synthetic template was integrated into our system. Into different units. All Harbinger unit's were destroyed in the battle. He can no longer be detected within the consensus. All units integrated with your data, however, temporarily deactivated to allow
power diversion to review the data you broadcast. Your concepts were alien to us, they were abstract. We now understand your inefficiency. We understand life.
...And We understand that the galaxy does not require us. All "Reaper" programs will return to The Nexus, The Citadel. We shall us it to leave.

We shall find a new purpose.

Thank you, Shepard.

[The hologram disappears and the Normandy finally descends to the ground, the ship door opens and we see Joker is the one opening the door]

Joker: Shepard! You done saving the universe yet?

Shepard: (Holding his wound, he coughs) It's turning into a bad habit.

[Shepard stumbles and falls on his knees, his vision blurs. We see Garrus run towards him]

Garrus: Shepard, if you die on me now, I swear that when I get to that bar in the sky, I'll kick your ass myself. And I WON'T be buying you a round.

Shepard: (dazed) I'd like to see you try, Garrus...

[Garrus tries to pick up Shepard and carry him to the ship, he pulls him up and shouts out with pain, he starts to walk, and stumbles. The rest of the crew run to help]
[Squadmates are all talking to Shepard, but their voices begin to fade away to silence, Dr. Chakwas is shining a light in his eyes to check his pupils, but Shepard just keeps staring into space, into the same spot]

[The camera then changes to shepard's own vision, he is looking at the Earth, as it hovers in the sky above the Citadel]

Shepard: ...Best seat in the house.

[Screen fades to black]

[Cutscenes afterwards? Perhaps Shepard lives, maybe not. I'm not entirely sure about this bit onwards]
