Can they do better than IT? Probably
Can they do better than IT without rewritting the whole ending? Probably not.
A rewrite of the whole ending means anything can happen.
But if they don't rewrite the ending, IT is the only salvageable plot twist they can manage. The endings are fubar'ed even with a 1 minute longer cutscene.
Let me explain what it would mean if IT is true.It would mean the the hero, while trying to defeat the force that trying to destroy everything, gets corrupt by that force. It a whole diffent level of sacrific.

How will you react?
What if it starts with Shepard walking up while being dragged away by the conduit by a solider or squadmate. It will be fuzy and we see Harbinger being fired on by fleet ships and ground forces as it fights back...It will be disorienting and will fade to black to later have Shepard wake up somewhere else....Then you go on with the game...to finish the fight or to sabotage the crucible as an indoctrinated agent based on your choice at the crucible.
I'd say that explains why there's an autosave after you get on to the Crucible and have nothing left to fight. Otherwise, what possible purpose does it serve? Did BioWare really think that people would want to see all three colors without playing the game over and over, and if so, isn't that an implicit admission on their part that the endings were going to upset a great many people?

But to proberly implement IT, wouldn't they have to write new endings anyway (i.e. what happens after Shepard "wakes up") I say, if they're already writing new endings, they might as well scrap abd replace the Citadel scenes all togeather. You don't need IT to do that.
Bw also said they are just adding more closer to he end of ME3, not changing the ending..
If the DLC doesn't show what happens after jest ending with Shepard waking up, then it leaves us with even more questions. Did anyone make it to the Citadel to open the arms? Did the crucible work? What did the crucible even do? It leaves the entire series on a cliff hanger, and is even worse than what we have now.

Sorry, I just think the time has come and gone for them to come out and say IT was the plan all along. It's been a month, there is a huge fan outcry over the ending in the game and a 1000+ page thread speculating on indoctrination. Besides there is no logical reason to remove the ending after the twist unless they wanted to sell it to us later, which I would find despicable.
Would IT have been awesome? Yes, I like it much better than what we actually got. It's up there with the whole "Would you kindly?" twist from Bioshock in terms of cleverness. I'm too cynical to actually believe Bioware intended it though and if they did, well screw them I'm not paying extra for what should have been part of the game from the get go.
Extra missions? Extra weapons? Sure, that's acceptable as DLC. The ending to a trilogy? No, that is just blatant exploitation.
But there is no reason to cut it from the game. It would have worked just as well to have left it intact, in the game.
What, are you worried people would have spoiled it? So what, that happens to everything, that's why the forums are seprated into spoiler and non spoiler sections. It's not like spoilers matter at this point anyway since there is a 1000 page thread on it.
Come on, this is EA we are talking about here. I just can't believe they would be down with Bioware releasing a game with half of an ending unless they planned to sell the ending later as DLC. (which is evil.

Seriously a choice where I could wake up and be an indoc agent would be awesome, finally a game would I could be really evil and join the bad guys and just wreak havoc on everyone mu ha ha ha ha!
No really I would first save the day as best I could, I just want to know there will be lots of Krogan babies running around when Wrex returns home, and that Tali will build her house. If Shepard must die, then that is fine, it will be a heroic death. But come on, just don't give us only depressing endings, there are no bittersweet endings here, just horribly depressing ones.

Uhm, indoctrination is just another plot point/choice that will affect the real ending. It's a crucial part to the overall story they are trying to tell.

I don't know why you are trying to make this into rocket surgery.
IT means the endings are not the endings. IT requires the original endings to stay the exact same as to add on further to the plot. If they are being rewritten, how can they stay the same?

The idea of itis that everything seen after Shep is cut down by harbinger is a dream. From the point Shep shots the trio of husk and Murader Sheilds, to Jokers crazy fun happy trip is a dream.
All they have to do is just have Sheperd wake up on earth with the reaper war still going on to use it. Think of it like them adding more levels.

Perhaps you're right. I guess you and me came to different conclusions when we heard the words "not rewritting the ending." When I heard that, I assumed it meant that they would not be adding or subtracting anything significant, and that filling in plot holes will be the best we can hope for. I guess we'll have to wait and see what actually turns up.

Indeed.
ME3 doesn't have the plot twist Bioware usually includes.
So it makes sense for them to make probably their biggest trilogy go out with the biggest plot twist.
Even before the Retake movement grew, they announced they wanted everyone to finish the game before they talked about it. So there is going to be a plot twist with new DLC, IT is just the most obvious one.

Because they ran out of time and did not want to delay the game again. There's a final hour app that state that originally there was going to be a fight at the end with Harbinger that was going to reveal that Shep was indoctrinated....It was cut because they could not get the gamepaly right.
