I finished the game and I didn't get Reave from Kaidan. I did get Barrier but I am not certain how I missed Reave. I talked to him whenever possible and be on his good side except I did not romance him when he wanted to. Maybe that's where I made the mistake?

You don't need to romance him, just have that conversation . I have a feeling that might be the one that unlocks Barrier though and a different conversation unlocks Reave?

Kaidan gave me Barrier when I first talked to him at the hospital. Then he gave me Reave when I first talked to him on the Normandy once he was out of the hospital.

Is this for certain because I have spoken to him at the hospital and i've gotten nothing from him. Keep in mind that I started a new game with no import because I never save Kaidan. I just want to know if i'm wasting my time with this save file or not. I won't see him again until after Udina becomes a jerk. A bigger jerk I mean.

I got Reave once Kaidan boarded Normandy, Barrier was the second power he gave..later in the game.

Or was it Barrier and then Reave? In any case, the first BP unlocked after the Coup, the second one later in the game.

Good to know, I'll push onward then.

Kronner is right... and I'm pretty sure Reave unlocks first.

I am not sure that Reave unlocks first, but I am 100% certain where it unlocked.

After Citadel Coup when you leave the Citadel you have the option to allow him onto Normandy. Allow him to join your team, and return to Normandy. It is the next conversation in the Starboard Observation, which can be completed immediately.

I am not sure what conversation gave me Barrier because I missed the pop-up. However, I know that I had it after I met him on the Citadel at Apollo. I am fairly certain that I did not get the message that barrier was unlocked after this conversation, but it was available in the medbay by this point in the game. I hadn't checked before, and hadn't noticed the message, so I am not sure when it happened.  If it was this conversation, then the pop-up just didn't occur.

This was a new game for me too because I do not have any import characters where Kaidan is alive.

I've had both for so long I already forgot. Sorry I can't help.

Yeah I think it goes barrier and then reave. I remember having both right after the citadel coup and recruiting Kaiden. Just keep talking to him whenever he sends you an email.

Watch out, or he'll try to reave your butt if you play maleshep.

Yeah, I think it might be bugged, because that convo didn't trigger with 2 different Shepards of mine.

Perhaps.  I had visited him all three times in the hospital prior to Citadel Coup, so I don't know if that is a factor or not.

As for Kaidan coming on to you... it isn't quite as bad as people make out.  It isn't like he tries to molest you in the locker room or anything.

I killed Kaiden in all of my play throughs -- in order for me to get Reave will I need to start a clean slate file with him alive, unlock it in the game, and then it's available in all my saved games?

It's sometimes bugged if you talk to other squaddies before talking to him (i.e: reserving him for the last). That convo should be the one where he talked about his parents. I think I got his 2nd bonus power when he asked you for dinner in the Citadel.

Yes, just start a new game in ME3, don't need to go back to ME save file, then pick Ash as your combat loss. Although if you play Action Mode though, I think you need to play as femShep cos broShep has Ash as the VS automatically.

By that stage you'll have barrier to stop him though.

If you don't feel like doing another complete playthrough from ME1, try this thread on how to mod a 360 save for ME2.

With a little work you can probably get a functional save without having to completely replay.

Reave is my fav power but I didn't manage to unlock it, even if I always try to please kaiden with my answers (but I never romanced him).

Yeah, I think the Reave unlock is bugged. I'm in the middle of my second femshep playthrough with Kaidan alive (I'm on Rannoch now), and I still haven't gotten Reave despite talking to him at every opportunity.
