I like it, Data. I really do, but I doubt BioWare will create something like that. Why not? Because it's a huge project. Too many characters, they would have to start recording a whole bunch of new lines for characters and so on, so on.
And a single mission for each LI? Wow, but creating so many mission would take some time and assuming the completion of these missions will not take us 10 minutes top, there will be even more work.

Sorry, but if BioWare wasn't able to treated some characters better in the actual game, then.. there's even a less chance to create a DLC with them. All of them.

But despite of everything I support this idea.

Basically sums up how I feel. I support this, but I highly doubt Bioware will do this. Plus, if they do end up doing a DLC, I only see it being generic for the LI's as a whole (which is what I don't want), compared to being relevant to what each romance represents.

This sounds more like an expansion than a DLC... but I'm all for it.

I doubt it would be possible though : most people only play once, or twice, they don't experience everything, and would no accept to pay the price of an expansion if they only experience 10 or 20% or it.

Okay, I'll try to answer some of a thousand questions & statements. Thanks for the great support so far.
Also I might add read-worthy posts to the OP.

The thing is that as great as this idea is and I whole heartedly support it I don't see it happening as others have said it would be a huge undertaking bringing back the VA's and all the extra time and manpower to create all the content it's just a huge undertaking that while alot of the fans would buy it in a heartbeat it isn't cost effective and that's the Elephant in the room.

*cut*

That's true. To get back any VA needs a lot of money. Also keep in mind it's not just the original cast but also the ones for any localization.
I don't know how many millions of fans are willing to pay for one or both Romance DLCs and I have no idea how much money you need to bring back the VAs. Since most of the other stuff is done (Textures, characters, ...) you "just" need to add the new scenes, the new maps and that's it.
"That's it" could easily mean half a year of programming PLUS another three months of bug fixing. Even if BW is going to do this, don't expect a DLC in 2012.

Think a good idea is to sell the DLC for $15 each or as bundle for $25. It's worth the prize replayability gets enhanced a lot. Such upgraded romances can be considered as "game within a game".

BobZilla 2k10 wrote...

The Mass Effect 2 Romances where
handled the way they were on purpose Bioware wanted to push the fans
toward the Mass Effect 3 Romance Options and The Mass Effect 2 Romances
had too many Issues and most of the issues I don't see a possble
solution because they are already coded into the Game perhaps before
release this problem could and should have been addressed but I don't
think it will happen now that the game is aleady out.

Something
to also consider is the fact that the only reason Bioware is changing
the Ending is because of the massive outrage made by the Fans so maybe
something could be accomplished but we will need unity and alot of
supporters.

Funny fact: the ME2 romances IN ME2 were done in a way to separate you from your original romance in ME1. Players who did so never got a proper reward from their new LI.

Most issues of the current ME2 romances in ME3 can be fixed by adding additional variables. I don't know anything about the structure of the game, but it should be possible to add new content, a "new path" of the story, without damaging the old path (which is still there if you like). I think I did an attempt to explain this in the OP.

garf wrote...

I'd be tempted, assuming they fixed the ending.

I'd also like to see a 'Swap Allers for Wong or Al-Jilani' DLC. THAT I would pay money for.

That idea is a good one, although may not work. Adding two more full (female) LIs may offend female players as well.
Adding another new male character as Reporter to the game would make things even more complicated.

You had me until the no gay Vega part.

Yeah, but not every character should be bi
Think Vega works a tad better as non-gay character. Or maybe he IS gay but not interested in male!Shep? Actually, I'd like to see that: bi-sex Vega who's only romanceable by fem!Shep but otherwise has eyes only for Cortez. Why not?

zennyrpg wrote...

To broaden the scope I suggest this
should be a "Characters and Romances" dlc. The extra missions should be
available regardless of who you romance and there should be extra
non-romance dialog as well (as stated in OP).

I'm fine with Thane
dying. I think you should be able to recruit Kolyat after he does and
reflect on your relationship with Thane with him.

Kolyat may be a good idea.
Think the "Thane-semi-cure plot" should get introduced for true Thane fans. Not everyone is into that "love-father-love-son" trope *g*

Apologies to fellow Jackmancers, but I oppose this plan. Jack has a good thing going and should stay with those kids.

The
dossier on the War Assets terminal says that Jack's tutelage has helped
those biotic students. So, we should just take her away and stick them
with a replacement who might not do them any good. No, says I. If it has
to be a long-range relationship, so be it. This Shepard doesn't need to
be reminded what he's fighting for.

You always have the option NOT to recruit your LI for the ship.
Also: you can skip Ashley or Kaidan in the vanilla game and make 'em to war assets. It'll net you 25 points.
Since you only get to recruit one out of the four LIs (and only 3 of them become war assets), recruting Jack won't harm your war assets that much

Some stuff may be generalized, other stuff should feel way different - like the special missions for each character. I hope for a big diversity on this field :)

Even if Vega were bi, we would be long way from "every" character. Most of guys are straight as an arrow and we did not have any male/male options until ME3. I don't mind not being able to romance most guys as a male Shep (nor would I want to tumble into bed with Garrus or Thane) but Vega is constantly teasing you and Shep seems really interested as well (even without any interaction). It would be very disappointing if a DLC would give us any payoff for that. I don't say everyone has to be bi but Vega really should be after all this banter, otherwise it is just a ****tease.

Still I think, it is a brilliant idea, just add Vega for male shep and you can have all the money you want from me, Bioware.

Data this is absolutely fantastic.  Assuming they do something to fix the shamble of an ending which is destroying anyone's desire to replay through the series, BIOWARE think about all the replay value this would bring to the table.  Data's ideas here are so well fleshed out it would make me want to start from ME (1) again and try out different romances just because a "critical mass" of story amount would now be present.  Also, some of his ideas (I love the one with helping Kaidan with his lost love) could also be done even without the character needing to be a LI - for example if you romanced Liara and saved Kaidan you can still do his mission.

I would just offer two suggestions to this genius layout.  One of my favorite things about DA:O, as silly as it may seem, was that I could go up to Morrigan (my LI) and kiss her whenever I wanted.  In public, whatever.  Often I would just go up to her and plant one on, just because I liked her so much.  Even though it was the same exact scene over and over, the whole idea behind an RPG is that you feel like you are living the character.  In the case of ME3, nothing made me more "meh" than going to talk to Ashley between missions and getting Zaeed'ed.  And not even a Zaeed response with a hint that maybe there was a romance going on.  Even though it would only be replaying the same 5 second cutscene, at least give me the OPTION to kiss her.  Repeatedly.

Another idea would be to have a minigame competition within the main game.  For example Ashley is a soldier and prides herself on taking bad guys down.  It should be pretty easy to program a challenge with her which just keeps track on number of kills for both you and her during a mission and then whoever wins gets a little treat.  You could make it fun, say you get 1 point for a general kill, 2 points for a sniper rifle headshot, 3 points for a melee kill.  For Liara you could compete on number of people trapped in singularities or something like that, number of biotic explosions, etc.

I really like this idea! Adding more dialogue and interaction to all the LI's would be fantastic! I felt that a lot of stuff was left out in the romances. I still think Garrus' was well done with the Citadel date and everything, but there was no climax (no pun intended) during the "love scene" right before going to the Cerberus base. Same with Tali. But Kaiden/Ashley, Liara and Cortez, etc get full on sexy time. And Jack and Thane and Jacob just disappear, like their romance didn't matter. I don't think it's very fair.
So I'm totally for this Fleshing out the romances would be awesome!

My only issue with this is how much it would cost Bioware to do this. Getting all the voice actors back in, writing more dialogue, animatin, writing the scripting in to patch it in.... God, so much work and money. Not that it should discourage them, since many people such as myself and the people in this forum would be willing to pay for it. And if Bioware still wants to keep a good relationship with its fans, things like these are good investments.

So long story short, make this happen, Bioware! Or at least something like it! :D

Data I support your great Idea's and i'm sorry for playing Devil's Advocate in my earlier posts.
I would buy both DLC Packs if they where created Day 1 of their release because as I said the Romances need a serious overhaul.

I think that if Bioware ever did create something like this they should focus on improving and expanding the current Romances but I am not against them adding a few new Romance Options.

I want them to add
Kasumi Goto for Male Shepard
James Vega for Female Shepard
Joker For Female Shepard

I'd purchase both of these DLC in a heartbeat, more roleplaying content is always appreciated and extended the life of the game through additional playthroughs. It's the reason I played ME2 close to twenty times.

Oh the other thing I was disappointed in, which Data's ideas would fix, is how similar the outcomes were between if you stayed loyal and if you cheated. At least with Ashley I've heard there's only one line of dialogue that's different and you can basically choose to ignore your ME2 interest. Not to start up yet another list of promises made about ME3, but there was a big deal made about "consequences" of cheating. I was hoping that staying faithful would allow the romance subplot to proceed faster than just the right-before-final-chapter scene like in the other two games. I think Data's idea would fix that, if you stayed faithful it would "pull forward" the romance scene. Then to replace the current romance scene right before the final battle, you get a conversation about, let's just say, "long-term plans together" after the fight is over.

I'd be happy to draft some thoughts on Kelly sometime. She's my favorite character in the series.

What she really needs is:

1. Closure at the end - getting off the Citadel, just like Zaeed manages to do.

2. Some dates on the Citadel during the game. Like going dancing, or dinner.

Thanks - however, it's too small to be readable. Mind to double length & width (resulting in 4x more area)? ;)
In case you do, I'll add a link to the OP.

Ideas on OP is good. However to me first of all ME3 need that ending clarification DLC so we can know what is really happened. Secondly it is huge work, just like making a new ME3 so I doubt Bioware or any gaming company do that.

Also another "problem" is when that LI missions will take place in game. If before ending, sorry I don't want to do more futile missions before that ending. If LIs divided equally for after ending DLCs I will buy them no matter if I romanced with those characters or not. Tho' having extended friendship talks in those DLCs for non Miranda or non Kaidan LIs would be huge bonus. Not holding my breath for after ending DLCs tho', with everyone stuck in Sol system and reaper tech destroyed I can't see much hope for galaxy.

Asperius: the idea is more or less based on the assumption BW will change or clarify the endings at a certain point in the future.
I'm currently planning to write a second essay about the endings but I fear that one won't receive as much support as this one since every player has a different idea how to end the game.

I concur: without changed endings and therefore, a dying Shepard / separated from his/her LI, advanced romance arcs are far less enjoyable than with better endings.

Actually they can meld your idea into their upcoming DLC ideas... well if they have anything for SP.

If they do 3 or 4 LI on each DLC it would make players happy and gain them higher sale rates.

Maybe. I just separated ME2 / ME3 LIs since it makes most sense: ME2 LIs need far more content from scratch for each character while ME3 LIs may need more "upgrades" for existing content. That's a huge difference and should show.

Lets see.
Doubt BW is going to do such DLCs any time soon.
