So when is she going to apologise for the abortion that was her voice acting?

Out of curiosity, how did these forums react to Felicia Day in the DA2 DLC? Did she catch the same level of flak as Jessica Chobot?

Wasn't as bad. I refused to buy the DLC she was in. But honestly, it was more out of disastisfaction with how they presented the DLC. They didn't really talk up what he did new for the game, like Legacy. It was something like "Buy the new DLC, staring FELICIA DAY!" "...Okay. So what's new in this?" "FELECIA DAY!", etc.

If it wasn't marketed at the time almost solely on her, I wouldn't have had a problem with it. So it soured me on buying the DLC.

To make this post actually on topic; It's nice she apologized, but I'm not surprised she broke out the IGN standby of 'entitled gamers'. I'm kind of surprised she was surprised at the backlash about her inclusion. I didn't have a problem with it, but I have to agree in hindsight with a lot of others that all the time they put into including her and giving her a specific character model, that could have gone towards making the game better, rather than shoe-horning a 'celebrity' in that no one likes.

Really, just more of the same that happened with Mark of the Assassin. I said before when it came out, and I'll still say it; Shoehorning celebrities into games for the sake of cameos or to sell a few more copies for their fans will never work. It doesn't work in movies, and I've never heard of it happening in books, so why should it happen in games?

If I ever manage to make a second play through I will not have Allers on my ship.  Besides, its not like EMS matters anyways.

Deeply impressed, it takes guts to admit you were wrong. (Colin could learn a thing or too from her.)

Also like to add that the hate she is receiving is starting to make sick. It doesn't help our image to have people making personal insults against her.

I am noticing something, however she is not the only one.

Jim Sterling, who had several articles painting the Retake movement in less than favourable light released his latest video on the Escapist (The Jimquisition) and he is somewhat favourable to what the retake movement wants. He admits to prematurely overgeneralising the movement before, but now he thinks as a whole their complaints and requests are fair.

yeah, I saw that. That was alright. He, too, thought it was just one of those things the fans were over reacting to. Cuz, let's face it, we do that. But this wasn't one of those times.lol

The thing that struck me is when Jim said that for the most part the "Retakers" seem to be pretty well grounded.

So, hats off to all those that made so many articulate and intelligent arguments. :wizard:

I can accept her apology, though I disagree with her about games not being tampered with.  Then again, I used to mod games all the time, and play the mods of others (I was very small time though, few of any heard of my DOOM mods, and I never publicly released any mods I made of other games).

So for me, gaming has always been dynamic, and about fun.  Maybe some day this will be settled by giving games an "Art" genre where they can never be modified or patched, then we get to choose if we wanna buy such games or not.

She sort of did, without outright damning herself.

"I'll be totally honest with you guys. I was, and still am, seriously stoked that I had the chance to be a character in ME3 but, I do have ears too and am fully aware that my voiceover was...shall we say..very "beginners." lol! People that can pull that off naturally are seriously talented."

Well, the thing with Chobot is a little different, I guess. First, she appears in the game, then IGN praises the everlasting [bad word] out of ME3, even though the game obviosly has its flaws. I personally didn't mind Diana Allers. I agree that Emily Wong would have been better, and I would have preferred her, but Allers wasn't bad, per se. Her face looked kind of squished, but I didn't mind. The voice acting was bad, but I didn't mind that either. So, I really didn't understand all the hate that gets thrown at her, until I read her statements about the Retake movement. Now, I understand perfectly.

But she says she's sorry, and I am willing to accept that. I'm just curious how she will react once she gets to the ending.

I think it's quite astounding how she embodies (ahah) pretty much everything that's wrong with ME3. In-game, BioWare/EA focus on the exact wrong things and the rush that left the game unfinished (Allers boobs vs. Tali, for example); out of the game, the sycophantic, click-hunting excuse of a gaming press.

That said, personal attacks are just pathetic. I'd argue that they harm “the movement”, but I don't think those people really operate on a level where that information helps.

I'm impressed with this. It certainly takes some fortitude to admit you were wrong and overreacted. Good on you Jessica!

Although, like others have stated here, the personal attacks on her were undeserved. While professional critique of her voice acting is acceptable, the insults are not (I wasn't impressed with her voice acting either, tbh).

And the cameo appearance of someone from a gaming review site snagging a spot in the game certainly calls into question the unbiased nature of their reviews (rightly or wrongly) that hopefully these sites will take into account and forbid employees from this type of "cross promotion" for lack of a better term.

I'll be the first to admit I thought it was kinda random that Chobot was gonna have a character in the game.I don't, however, think that it was that bad or that her acting and all was horrible. And I don't think she has any reason to apologize either. It's not like the people that have been critisizing her are gonna apologize for their actions. So, I say it was a classy move on her part and props to her. Also she loves Wonder Woman so that's a plus in my book as well lol

To be quite frank, even that rings somewhat hollow. She didn't have to adopt a character, with her character written more or less specifically for her with her profession in mind; the most her direction needed to be and realistically was, was "relax, just have fun with it, and pretend you're podcasting; we'll do a rough, unrecorded take to get you comfortable with the process then go from there".

Regardless of how genuine a person thinks she is, she's still a video and audio journalist and from there she has (or at least, is supposed to have) experience with and knowledge of inflection, tone, elocution and timing. Even if you accept the notion she's a fake-nerd, then she should have accordingly more experience with and knowhow of those things! In the game she's just wooden and bland, which suggests to me she got nervous as hell and forgot her journalism background, and the voice director didn't take the effort to guide, put her at ease, or correct her.

TBH she didn't deserve all the flak she got. Sure, Allers wasn't my favorite character, I was pretty indifferent to her. Even if I hated a character that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and insult the VA. She shouldn't have jumped to conclusions and judged the disgruntled fans the way she did, but then again, she did apologize for it. I wonder how many people who insulted her owned up to their mistakes? Anyhow, lets get an ending that works that we can all be happy with, and leave personal attacks out of it. on both sides.

For one, Felicia Day's VA in DA2 was miles ahead of what Chobot delivered. I think many wouldn't have raged as hard if Chobot's VA was better, however it was not. Unlike Miranda or Felicia's character, Aller's just broke the immersion of the game. If on top of that you add the anger towards the ending and how heavy-handed it felt and on top of that killing Emily Wong on a twitter post... Yeah, someone's going to get the blame.

Good on her apologising for any offence she caused people. Although tbh all she said was "entitled" and "whine-fest" so I think she was pretty spot on TBH.

Martin Sheen
Adam Baldwin
Seth Green

All of these characters these celebrities played could've been done by other less known voice actors...

Nice that she apologized for that. She is in a hard position though really. Going to be very hard for her to get much positive reaction from the fanbase. Seems like most, myself included, would have preferred and even expected Emily Wong to fill that roll. And what did we get for Emily? A death via Twitter that was easy to miss and then a flat character that felt forced with mediocre VA. I don't blame her though, I'd jump at the chance to be a character in ME3 too. And I am sure my VA would be at the same level.

The people that bashed her after her first post should be going back and apologizing. There's no excuse for name-calling/personal abuse. She owned up to name calling, time for her detractors to do the same

Just thought of something that amused me greatly, so I thought I should share:

She was unprofessional in her voice acting and then she followed it up by being unprofessional in her way of interacting with fans after the game was released.

Have any of the other voice actors attacked the fanbase?   lol

She is viewed as a sex object... nothing more. That is why she is in the game after all.

The problem is... a limited number of people insulted her and her response was to insult anyone who was disappointed in the ending.
