Christ almighty...you guys need to let up on this poor woman. She is insignificant to the plot and completely optional. And, she is entitled to call people whiners as much as you are entitled to call her a horrible voice actress.

It´s a matter of audience. If I say whatever on these boards my voice means nothing. Chobot, on the other hand, is a well-known name in the media and videogame industry.

So what?

It´s a matter of scale. She should have seen it coming.

Out of curiosity, how did these forums react to Felicia Day in the DA2 DLC? Did she catch the same level of flak as Jessica Chobot?

No, she did not.

Well I for one am ashamed of the baseless flaming and hate speech directed upon poor Chobot.

That's cool she apologized, I didn't really think either way of her previous comments, probably because I don't care and don't follow her.

On a side note, and this isn't me bashing Chobot, but I felt the character had more depth and emotion when I got emails from her talking about Bekenstein than I ever felt actually talking to her. Bad character development/writing or bad voice acting?

Here's the difference:  I had never heard of this woman.  I certainly made no comments about her voice acting UNTIL I HAD ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED HER VOICE ACTING.  I didn't call her an awful voice actress right after admitting I hadn't actually found her in the game yet.

I played the game.  Then I reached a conclusion about her voice acting.  My opinion is based on facts.

She has not even played far enough into the game to romance herself, yet she has a definitive opinion on how people should feel about an ending she hasn't seen yet?

Are you seeing the disconnect here?

"I also am totally aware that games are now, after much fighting by the gaming community, finally considered works of art and, as art, should not always bend to what the masses want."

So when does the consumers come into play since, these "artist" wouldn't be making art if consumers didn't pay for it?
My point is, you want to be called artist, that's cool. Just be ready when people don't want to buy your art.

If they think every artist should make a ton of money, they are trippen hardcore.

Its nice she wrote this, this one will give her that. Admittedly this still doesn't change the fact this one hates her character, but that's not really her fault to begin with so.

Honestly, I don't care that much about it.  I just think people are hitting this poor woman with all kinds of personal attacks and all she did was a VO for a video game character...and a real minor one at that.

Sometimes this forum really brings out the worst in people.

I don't get it. I thought Chobot was ok in the game, and she's more than "entitled" to her own opinion of the Retake movement. But whatever! I like people who are able to do what she did. She responded to her conscious, and that's cool in my book.

Now I wonder if anyone who insulted her is willing to do the same..........

I think the lack of professionalism in the gaming world is to blame for a lot of problems with fans making personal attacks.  Seriously, how hard would it be for her to run her comments past someone with a head for PR who could tell her, hey, maybe insulting everyone who disliked the ending isn't a good idea.

I got two words for this thread: Big whoop!

Seriously, there are a lot of people I'd like to hear from about the ME3 ending. She is not one of them. Please go away and leave the stage to people who actually have something to say, thankyouverymuch!

So, according to you, she shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion?  And, boorish behavior should be responded to with more boorish behavior?  I have to respecfully disagree.

Yes she is. How many English lit majors have torn apart that ending? Sadly the final 10 minutes was not quality work. The art, acting and music were. The writing was a different story. My guess is that they didn't expect the players to be so educated.

I'm not moved after the insult. It didn't look good when Forbes had to run several articles about Mass Effect3.

Nope, she can have an opinion, but until she finishes the game she should expect people to laugh at her opinion.

Also, I never said the appropriate response to her was boorish behavior... but when addressing a mob of people (such as the internet in general) it is a bad idea to insult a large group.  Chances are that only a few of those people disliked you beforehand and that even less of them cared enough to actively insult you.  However, after insulting everyone in that group, you have made them your enemies.  This is a foolish and unprofessional thing to do.

I think pople would have been more understanding if she finished the game. However, I'm not understanding of the artist defense. That is a cop out, and has been since the first person brought it up. People that use that can't face the fact that some people don't like their art. So instead of learning to improve, they cry foul. Sorry but the "kid gloves" come off when you take my money.

I tend to agree that things go over the top when there are personal attacks on Bioware's staff.

Attacking the company, its product, its vision is a-ok. Attacking people who may or may not be responsible for what we did not like is not cool.

I read a controversy about a Bioware author saying she preferred the story to the actual gameplay. Duh! I mean, she's an author, she writes stories for a living and she probably does it because she likes to read and write. He she comes saying she prefers reading the story than playing a computer game... I mean... why is it wrong or surprising? She's a writer... I kinda expect her to have more enjoyment on writing and reading than playing.

About Ms Chobot... well, I did not notice anything terribly wrong with her acting, for the role she had. And I didn't know who she was before I played the game and came to these boards.

Whatever. Her performance (or lack of, for those who hated it) does not warrant personal attacks. That's just childish and immature and tends to give her credit when she talks about "entitled gamers" and "whine-fest". It's not like she wrote the ending so many dislike.

Someone at EA and IGN thought it be good marketing to have her face and voice in the game. It's not the first time a game publisher makes that kind of decision. Won't be the last either. And her appearance is kinda optional. I think you get 5 galactic readyness points for having her onboard. Just say NO. She probably thought herself it would be fun, and it wouldn't be so hard to just read some lines like she does on her show. She made a mistake, so be it. It's not like it's the worst part of ME3, it's not like it's preventing us to play the game, it's not like she's always at our side annoying us.

and in this case, she did not.  She did not criticize the "Retake" movement.  And she's entitled to her opinion.  You disagree fine.  Lots of people disagree, ok.  But don't go to personal attacks of hate mail, it just proves that gamers are immature kids to those who think of us as such.

Oh look at that, another person criticizing the fans response to the game/ending that hasn't even finished the game and seen the ending. Guaranteed that most of the critics never actually finished it and then turned around and saw the response and hate for the ending and watched a video on it.

Yeah, she apologized... why... she doesn't want bad publicity. She already stated her opinion. Sorry but no take backs.

It really is too bad that the gaming industry is so underdeveloped... in any other large scale industry a company cannot insult their customers, sell them unfinished products and then have the so called reviewers brow beat the customers for complaining.

I wonder if this is the core of the reason why Forbes has taken an interest in this entire mess.  From a purely academic stand point, the situation is wonderful... a graduate student could do a nice dissertation on how an underdeveloped industry can be so disfunctional.

I would never attack someone like she did. It is unprofessional. The relationship is strictly business. Name calling is just out. She crossed the line and so did fans.
