But she apologized.  Like, she said she was sorry and over-reacted due to hurt feelings on her part.  You get that there are thousands of you and only one of her, right?   Like, forgive her already.

So you didn't like the VA - imagine how she feels being trashed for this as well.  Again, she's probably human behind that keyboard - her pain has GOT to be far worse than ours.  After all, we just got pissed that the game ending was a complete tangent having nothing to do with the previous 3 games - she's gotten publicly trashed across the internet.

And she got paid.

If you take money from people, then insult them, then apologize... guess what, they still get to be a little peeved.  Especially if your role in the business seems like a severe conflict of interest to begin with.

If she had stayed silent about the game, she would be footnote in the whole mess.  But now, I think anyone who writes a history of this who debacle will have to give her a big place in their summary of events.

I disagree.  Nobody will remember anything about the Mass Effect series other than how Bioware was able to completely destroy one of the most awesome franchises with the last 5 minutes in the third game.  Nothing else will ever be in the discussion.

But honestly, this is no different from CNN commentators being in political movies - its hardly a crazed conflict of interest of epic proportions.   Her place in the summary of events will be a minor footnote at best.

But again, she apologized.  What more would you have her do?  Like really - that's kind of all you can do.  I suppose a video of her groveling and eating pink slime or something might do it, but isn't an apology enough?

I didnt take her opinion that seriously to begin with since IGN as a whole has fallen from my graces and since the only reason she got the job was because she was hot, I want Casey to apologize to us, not some crappy PR apology, he needs to man up and apologize, we fans will respect him more for it

The whole art argument is garbage.....most of what high name museums today call art IS absolute garbage.

At this point I am through feeling pity for anyone defending the ending professionally or otherwise.

On the same note I don't see anything wrong with her acting or her character's presence on the Normandy but it does completely convince me that the entire critic industry and just about all reviewers posting on Metacritic are professionally compromised and should change careers. Failing to recognize the ending for the catastrophe that it is and worse even trying to defend it is unacceptable.

That is a very grim perspective.  I hope that video games will grow as an industry and as an artform.  Personally, my favorite artform is the novel and if you ask any expert on the novel they will tell you it is on it's way out.  Not quickly, mind you... but slowly and surely.   I kind of hope that video games will someday take a similar role for future generations.

If that is to happen, they have to engage their audience and respect their audience.  I think the whole mess with ME3 could be a lesson for future game designers and publishers.

I agree, it isn't any more inappropriate than reporters appearing in hollywood movies... but generally those same reporters don't post comments on their blogs insulting people who didn't like the movies.

I think her apology missed the mark, much as the "apology" from Bioware did.  Both times they felt the need to include unrelated attacks from crazy fans.  If you apologize you can't justify your behavior in the same breath.

How 'bout we just get Casey apologizing for the ending?  I really don't care about any other apologies (OK, well maybe the Tali picture...).  I think Jessica is the perfect person to apologize for this.

I'm ashamed that the community felt so malicious towards the developers. It's really sickening that a bunch of emotionally disturbed people would be so mean to other people about this game. Shame on you people, you know who you are. Glad she said Entitled Gamers, because thats what some of you are brats who ask for more than they deserve. /end galaxy

Out of curiosity, how did these forums react to Felicia Day in the DA2 DLC? Did she catch the same level of flak as Jessica Chobot?

No, she did not.

Felicia Day is a good actress though. She has been doing it for a long time and has experience. You are getting a good voice actress for marketing reasons. A win win scenario.

Chobot was a real sacrifice for nothing more than marketing. No experience. Just a really bad deal when you lose value in your product for marketing.

Lessons to be learned for everyone. Barack Obama as a voice actor might be a good installment for marketing in Dragon Age 3, but if he can't act, he doesn't belong there.

Christ almighty...you guys need to let up on this poor woman. She is insignificant to the plot and completely optional. And, she is entitled to call people whiners as much as you are entitled to call her a horrible voice actress.

Here's the difference:  I had never heard of this woman.  I certainly made no comments about her voice acting UNTIL I HAD ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED HER VOICE ACTING.  I didn't call her an awful voice actress right after admitting I hadn't actually found her in the game yet.

I played the game.  Then I reached a conclusion about her voice acting.  My opinion is based on facts.

She has not even played far enough into the game to romance herself, yet she has a definitive opinion on how people should feel about an ending she hasn't seen yet?

Are you seeing the disconnect here?

This is an interesting point - especially considering the Allers romance happens fairly early on in the game.

I don't see how calling someone a terrible voice actor when their profession is not voice acting is some heinous insult. People have been saying Buzz Aldrin was terrible in his scene too, that doesn't make him any less of an American icon. Furthermore, stuff about her being 'useless' are referring to Allers, not Chobot, which is a writing issue she has nothing to do with.

This 'apology' feels more like her giving herself the opportunity to talk about her own feelings and how upset she is but how ultimately she's the 'bigger person'. Rubs me the wrong way, but ultimately I don't care enough about her for this to mean anything to me.

Also, low blow comparing Retakers to that completely unrelated DA situation.

I disagree.  For starters, Bioware is a corporation, with lots of people, PR and management included who can craft an apology, whereas Jessica is a person, who admited being personally hurt by the attacks of her VA and participation.  I found Bioware's apology lacking. I found Jessica's more than fine.  I'm assuming she did it herself - and again, I'm just going out on a limb and assuming she's actually a human being with feelings and stuff - people hurt and embarrased or attacked don't always sound like slick PR folk or come up with completely contrite responses.

I'm just saying we should probably take her apology as just that and move the focus back to Bioware and the fiasco that the last 5 minutes brought.

And I totally agree that video games should be seen as having narratives, but again, the ending flat out doesn't fit with the narrative - it totally changes the underpinnings of the entire 3 games with 14 lines of dialogue - artistic integrity just doesn't cover that.  If that happened in a novel, we would rebel there as well - in fact I can point to examples of novels where this did happen and the fans did in fact rebel.

The worst part of this is especially ME1 really played like a great novel - if they could have only ended it well in ME3 it would have been the greatest series ever.

Correct. She's also an entrepreneur and runs her own company from the ground up.  I can't comment on DA2 or Day's role in it, but I think we're comparing two pretty separate things. Day acts in a number of TV shows and video games and has significant cred in the entertainment industry.

Well if she's asking for forgiveness then she has it from me. However she really, really should finish the game just so she can see what everybody's problem is with the ending.

I cringe just thinking about Felicia day in anything. What an awful DLC, and mostly because i hate the Felicia Day character.

Interesting that she defines her role as a "cameo."

Now, granted, it wasn't a "Red Sonja" Cameo (Schwarzenegger agreed to a cameo and the director used ever piece of film that was shot.) But it wasn't what anyone would normally call a cameo. You had significant scenes and lines and her character was important enough to be a love interest.

That's not a cameo.

What annoys me about it is the blatant marketing ploy it was, and the fact that she was given the job instead of an actual voice actress.

I guess I am a little more harsh than you are when it comes to professional and unprofessional behavior.  If she was just some random person posting on her blog, then yes, anything she says is fine (within the law).  Yay for free speech.  But since she is commenting on a project that she worked on as a professional, I don't think she is owed any concern from the public regarding her feelings.

That sounds horribly calous, but I think there is a reason why business and personal life should not mix.

Yup. And she doesn't just scream AW. I still remember the "incident" at BlizzCon 2009, and that's the kind of situation I can imagine Chobot eating up with a spoon. I actually kind of felt bad for Felicia Day, she seemed really shocked and embarrassed (even though she probably should have expected a stunt like that from that crowd).

I can see her frustration since a good deal of people attacked her because Bioware decided to put her in the game. Now I believe the initial anger with her being in the game was they thought she was a actual squad member but it turned out she was playing a reporter which was fine in my mind.

On her role being in the game was shaped by bioware and I wished they had given a little more depth in having a Reporter on the Normandy.

I think people should leave her alone.
