I personally wish more women who knew the difference between their butt and a hole in the ground about gaming or geek culture could find work in gaming and geek journalism. As it is, the field is seemingly chock full of faux-geek women who cruise on sex appeal rather than providing genuine substance or insight.
The roots of this problem are so deep in society that change will take years.
It seems easier to start objectifying men as much. I don't mind it, if it is equal on both and neither takes the role as the default decorative gender.
We had weeks of discussion about this in one of my college writing classes. The unfortunate reality is the womens rights movement raise women up some, but unfortunately settled for bringing men down primarily.
Instead of glamorizing smart/successful women, we now glamorize dudes who aren't anywhere near what a "man" was just 20/30 years ago.
There's too much to this to talk about in a video game forum.

Attacks on a female BioWare employee....? Is she referring to that ridiculous thing with one of the Dragon Age writers?
I don't know what one has to do with the other. You'd think a journalist would be more objective before lumping together entirely unrelated incidents.
But fine. To be honest, I doubt the sincerity, but if she refrains from commenting before actually completing the game that's something.
Actually, there was one female employee were did get blasted on her Facebook or Twitter page if memory serves, and we know Jessica Merizan has taken quite a lashing from the extremists. Thus, I believe she is referring to these one of these incidents. Granted, I agree it does come across as a bit too much a generalization but the fact she openly criticized her own voice acting (noted in the comments) leads me to at least acknowledge her apology.
Her subsequent comparison to sports however is inaccurate. We are not charged to watch sports and the competitive nature notifies us beforehand, paying for a ticket does not guarantee our team's victory. BioWare, meanwhile, charged for their game and made false promises. Not a great comparison.

Out of curiosity, how did these forums react to Felicia Day in the DA2 DLC? Did she catch the same level of flak as Jessica Chobot?

I think we all did.
She was one of those huge plot hooks that you thought was going somewhere, but never did. (why be able to kick her off the ship?)
I feel like the writers didn't realize she was terrible till she recorded stuff and then just cut her parts when they needed to cut stuff.
I'll give her credit for apologizing though.

No reason not to accept her apology, it took some balls to step up and say this, nothing but respect for this. Not alot of people have the guts to actually own up for their mistakes.

Doesnt look like an apology to me, she still think we're entitled bratz.

Other than a few guffaws, which probably exist in any forum no matter the size, no. Her work was received favorably, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good all of Mark Of The Assassin was.

Probably didn't call the fanbase names either. That goes a long way to not catching flak.

I *really* liked Mark of the Assassin. IMO the only good DLC ever made for Dragon Age. Most DLCs are not worth their money.
Tallis made a good companion (squad mate). Felicia Day is famous for acting though, and being a gamer, so it was a slightly different case.

We have more important things to do than bash individuals. We have a Franchise to win back from the rEApers.
I personally was indifferent to Allers/Chobot. It isn't her fault for being a less important character. Just bad writing. We have work to do people.
Allons-y.

Well, there are a few differences here, mainly being that Felicia Day is actually, you know, an actress? And without any inherent conflicts of interest from being associated with a website that would review the game she was part of?

To be fair I haven't seen anything other than people being perfectly civil to Merizan.
Annoyingly persistent in bugging her about things she obviously can't know, but civil.
A member of your retake group threatened to kill her on twitter.
See, these are precisely the comments that spark hostility and why many of us have an issue with some (emphasis intended) pro-enders. I could just as easily make threats toward Jessica, Casey or anyone, yet no one in Retake would ever encourage or condone such, not the good members anyway. People (ie. members on either side) need to denounce the extremists for what they are; trolls, and not presume everyone is the same.
