I'm Krogan and I play Kro---
Oh, right.
Ahem, female. Main is female *but she kinda looks like a dude, does that count?*
I have no illusions of the ugly factor Shepard may evoke.
What gender are you and what gender was your main Shepard in ME3?

I'm female and my MainShep is a female, faithful Kaidan-mancer. I have two other femSheps and three broSheps, all different classes and romances.

Male because I managed to create a great face(though I never got the exact same face in ME3, which is frustrating). The voice actor is pretty good. My first character really and the fact that Jack is straight only further states that he's my default Shepard.
I do of course have a FemShep besides my main who is faithful to Liara though(in my first FemShep run in any case).

Girl playing a girl. I really can't play male characters in single player RPGs.

I'm female and my main Shep is female, always with a faithful Kaidan romance.
It's kinda an anomaly though. Usually I play male characters in make your own hero games. I like to make a main character appealing to look at for the next 30+ hours instead of using the protagonist as myself in the game world.

I'm male, and all of my Shepard are males. 12 Shepards are romancing Miranda, 2 are romancing Jack.
I have a femShep, but she wasn't female. I used gibbed on a ME2 save to change the gendet of a MaleShep, just to have a femshep romancing Miranda.

I'M A MAN! (Linkara reference, sorry). But my Canon Shepard is Male. I have two other Shepard's however. Both Female. I like Femshep a bit more due to Jennifer Hale's voice acting. I have no problem with Meer, I just like Hale more.
I do plan to do an Insanity run as a male Shepard at some point. Probably will make him a different race than me or model him after Jack from LOST. Get it? Jack Shepard? HAH!

I'm male and my Shepard is female. She's single.
For some reason I had one full Kaidan VS trilogy playthrough where he was Shepard's LI, it was non-canon run and to be honest it always felt a bit weird. It was rather long test but that save doesn't exist any more and officially it never happened. She has been single and she will stay that way.

Female -> FemShep
My favourite Shep romanced Liara in ME1, Thane in ME2 (because I wanted the achievement) and back to Liara in ME3.
I've tried to play as ManShep a few times because I wanted to romance Miranda but I can't seem to get on with ManShep. Maybe because I can't make a good looking ManShep, every time I see his stupid face I'm reminded of my failure.
If I'm given a choice I tend to play as a female, but I will try playing as a male in a later playthrough to see how it changes the story.

Male/female/liara
But I've got multiple saves of both genders, though I prefer femshep because I prefer Hale's voice-acting (by far).

I am Male irl and I play a Female Shepard.
I always play female avatars in games, always have, always will. It is just a personal preference.
I romanced Kaidan primarily in ME1 but became fond of Liara later on, none in ME2(Liara in LOTSB) and stayed loyal to both for my ME3 playthrough(Though I did 1 playthrough where I romanced Thane, but only to get the achievement on my xbox(I play ME3 on the PC)).

stayed true in ME2 (was so glad for LotSB)
I have a maleshep though that in ME1 I spent 2 hours tweaking the face to look like my Grandfathers WWII photograph
Those are the only 2 I care about. the rest of my playthrus are "Meh"

Female playing a male Shepard. Seems to be a minority here.
Though to be fair, I only started playing Mass Effect because I thought default male Shep looked kinda cool in the promotional material, so I didn't even think about starting out with a female Shepard.
Funny thing is, I started playing male characters to avoid being hit on in online games. In Mass Effect it's just the other way round. :/

Female. My main is female. Romanced Thane. Is currently too depressed to come out of Life Support.
Finished the game with my other FemShep that stayed true to Kaiden.
Also have 2 Brosheps. One for Tali, one for Liara.

Male. Female Shepard mostly.
It's funny, before Mass Effect I rarely played with female avatars in games. When I first started ME, I didn't like that the PC had a voice actor at all. I was used to KotoR-style silent pc's, where you just choose the dialogue option. After I had created my first Shepard I didn't like the new dialogue system, and I especially didn't especially like the voice of my character. The voice was of course mr. Meer, who has admitedly become a bit better at his voice role.
So, I had a problem. I couldn't immerse myself into the game. I started explorign other options, and decided to try the female Shepard. I quickly noticed that the voice acting was much better than with the male counterpart. I also found it nice to be able (I'm not even ashamed to say it) look at femsheps ass. That drove me to keep playing with a femshep. Now I will always think of femshep as Shepard, while the other one is "male Shepard". 8)

I'm female and I play as a female Shepard, romanced Kaidan and stayed faithful. In my second game I romanced Garrus in ME2 and haven't decided who I'll go with in ME3. After that I will probably play through all three as male and romance Liara. Never liked Ashley that much....
