We are all very familiar with the indoctrination theory having scoured the internet for an explantion and closure on the ending. I believe that the best thing bioware can do at this moment is accept the indoctrination theory for the citadel scene. Bioware could slightly alter the speech of the illusive man and andersion to emphasise this. The three choices presented by the star kid represents sheperds fight against indoctrination. Only choosing the destruction of the reapers option (red) does Sheperd break out of the trance. At this point Sheperd regains his consciousness and finds himself in the citadel council room by himelf, at this point the 'real' anderson and illusive man meet sheperd and a proper showdown ensues through a heating debate in which voices are raised (I doubt bioware would do this cause they would have to hire both keith davids and martin Sheen). At this point bioware could use unlimited options for the ending which incorporates the decisions WE MADE throughout mass effect.
The first thing that needs to be reramped imo would be the whole stupid explnation for the reapers. I strongly believed that the intentions for the reaper genocide should never have been explained. They were supposed to represent 'order' and a higher plane of existence that organics could not comprahend, as mentioned by every reaper Sheperd meets. Why is the Star kid able to explain to Sheperd in one minute flat why the reapers exist, effectively undoing the great premise set forth by the conversation with sovereign , Harbinger and the reaper destroyer on Rannoch. I would of loved the fact that even if sheperd managed to defeat the reapers there would always be an omnious question regarding the reasons of the reapers actions. This could also have made for another mass effect game series, where the reaper threat is destroyed but the enigma of the existence still persists.
The catalyst is the next port of call. Its architects and initial origins are never revealed and more clarity severly needs to be shed. I was hoping for a clever plot twist from bioware. I thought the catalyst was going to be a dead end regarding the destruction fo the reapers. I thought that the reapers gave the blueprints for organics to simply follow in order to waste their resources on it, rather than fully devote all their resources to the war with the reapers (maybe this is the main reason why organics have never defeated the reapers becuase they always followed the blueprints like the relays!!!)...this would of made a more chilling scenario.
I also believe that the key to stopping the reapers without controlling them would revolve around the mass relay. I think that Sheperd would have had to destroy the relay and sacrifice the sol system and everyone inside to destroy the reaper threat, just like he did the batarian system to prvent the reapers from coming. Depending on your galactic readiness, whether you had enough ships to fight the reapers, sheperd and the normandy and some of the fleet jump would through the relay destroying the main reaper fleet above earth. Obviously Admiral hackett would have to be awesome and hold back the reapers sacrificing himself in the process (BITTERSWEET ENDING EARTH ANHILATED BUT REAPERS DESTROYED BANG BANG).
Okay that was one of my ideas, i have others that can be fleshed out with more comments
1. The best possible ending would be that Sheperd manages to destroy the reapers, but anderson and hackett die. Only possible if reaper base is destroyed and maxiumum galactic readiness aquired.
2. Sheperd dies, hackett and anderson lives. He manages to destroy the reapers. Love interest is pregnant with Sheperds baby, awesomeness reincarnated and the themes of death, life love and cycles are still there in all their fruity abundances.
4. Earth is destroyed in order to destroy the reaper fleets, by destroying Sol (the sun) using dark energy. This could be a possible use of the catalyst.
3. Sheperd dies and the illusive man controls the reapers from the citadel command room, using tech from the reaper base given to him by sheperd. Humanity then dominates the universe. Red tint background mandatory.
4. Sheperd is unable to stop the reapers but is put into stasis for the future (like Javik the non-essential prothean dlc character that does not add any lore to the story whatsoever and is not imperative to play with in mass effect 3) or with Liara makes 'prothean' beacons for a future galactic cycle, giving a degree of hope for the future. I presonally think this would be the coolest ending of them all, showing the desperation but also a sense of hope for the future that the reapers may be one day stopped.
Oh yeh if we are changing the ending to one that allows for a more pleasant scenario i think we need the ending music from mass effect 1 (faunts) playing with the normandy flies over a burning planet
