Half Life 2: Episode 2 has to take the cake for bad endings.

It's ends on a cliff hanger and fans have been waiting every since 2007 to finish the story of Gordon Freeman. Half Life is the series that made Valve and now they won't even talk about it.

Half Life 2 EP2? Are you joking? It's a cliffhanger because is obviously not the end of the story. There are at least 2 games missing before the end.

to answer the topic question: NONE

I've played most of the games people mention here, some of which had VERY fulfilling endings. So I don't really know why anyone would put them next to the ME3 ending.

ME was THE GAME (games). The ending to ME3 just trashed my spirit.

Knights Of The Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords.
Great game, wonderfully written and an absolutely wonderful Si-Fi Adventure all on its own; and a great RPG. Sadly, got wrecked to by a Publisher rushing it out the door with the ending unfinished....

Sound familiar guys?

No ending of any game has disappointed more than Mass Effect 3's, including KotOR II: The Sith Lords... which occurred in an incomplete final area and forgot to tie up numerous plot threads.

RYGAR on NES. I remember being so po'd when I finally finished that game, only to get this horrible ending. At the very least, I should have been enshrined as one of those buddah statues in the caves

Fragile Dreams for the wii... I get depressing, I get post-end of the world games, but that made no sense.
I would have said Barquoe, but that one actually goes make sense ones you have died enough time and gets to the real end.

James Bond: Blood Stone - it ends literally halfway through the story on a bridge, Bond takes a phone call, then says "Bond out.", then roll credits. WTF?

I really liked some of the level design and gunplay in that game, but yeah, the ending was atrocious.

Also, the original Y's. Bug made the final boss unbeatable.

Finally, the original Ninja Gaiden for the NES. The ending proper wasn't the problem. It was the nutso final level followed by a cheese ass final boss. I mean, I remember just rage-ing at the sheer insanity of enemies thrown at me and then finally getting to the boss and he kills me. No problem. I'll just have to do the level ov-- WTF!?! It started me halfway back through the entire game?!!!? NOOOOO!! *controller SMASH*

I'll probably get flamed for this, but here goes my list:

-Final Fantasy VII. Ending was frustrating as hell (still a masterpiece though).
-Resident Evil 0. Actually the worst prequel ever made, not just the ending. This game should have never existed.
-Chrono Cross. Short and ambiguous.
-Diablo & Diablo II. Err...
-NWN & NWN2. Expansions "solved" their endings.
-Every Soul Calibur game up to date.
-PST. I liked the ending, just say it because it is actually a worse ending than the one of me3.
-Cataclysm. Just lame.

The Longest Journey, Dreamfall. A sad cliffhanger that hasn't been completed.
Advent Rising. Same reason as above.
Half Life 2/E2. Same as above.
Halo Reach. Because I read the books, the continuity was way off and left me feeling empty at the end. Just my opinion.

I was going to say Neverwinter Nights 2, but that ending actually explained what happened to everyone and the consequences of your actions. What happened to the PC and their party sucked, but it wasn't so bad because you knew exactly what it was they died for.

  •  Fable 2 - For being incredibly anticlimatic.
  • Dragon Age 2 - Many, many reasons
  • Fable 3 - For making my evil psychopath cry at the end + the general stupidity of the endgame decisions
  • Skyrim's Main Quest - For beating up the super-duper big bad 2/3 of the way through the story and spending the rest of the time chasing the coward down before having the what may be the most one-sided fight since Fable 2.  Then just sort of... stopping.
  • Cataclysm - For making me and millions of others think about orc sexy time.
I can forgive 4/5 of these for not being story driven games in the first place so their endings weren't all that different in quality from the main storyline.

Bioforge.

Built up for an excellent ending and.. left you wondering what about the girl, the doctor, access to the vault and where the hell you were going with all those aliens.

There are many games with a worse ending than ME3, but those are not a last entry in a series I really care about.

For recent games with a bad ending, I would say Rage comes to mind, also Borderlands had a very anti climatic ending. I have not played any of the DLC though.

Mass Effect 3 do have the worst ending I will probably remember the most. First thing that will pop into my mind when people mention this series in like 5 years or so will unfortunaly be the bad ending.

Deus Ex: Human Revoultion. I find my disappointment with ME3's ending very similar to that of DXHR. It started by poorly introducing a very bizarre concept and then continued through a disappointing final encounter into choice that I didn't fully understand. The final cutscene was incredibly abstract and didn't actually tell me anything about what happened in the outcome. It made a little bit more sense in that case, though, as it was a prequel rather than the end of a long running trilogy. After both endings I just decided to focus on the majority of the game rather than the ending cinematic.

I disagree, but then I played DE 1 when it was shiny and new.  DEHR's ending was quite in line with the story and with the story of DE1.  At least only ONE possible choice in DEHR leads to your demise.  The others...you still live, are not irrevocably separated from the people you know and love (your former LI betrays you but you were already broken up with her so...).  Would LOVE a new DE with Adam in it that takes up with the results of the decision in DEHR.

Some ancient game ... back in the day it was a cool action/rpg hybrid.  They did a remake of it on the PS2 but the PS2 version lacked the charm of the old NES game (minus the lousy ending).  Rygar on the NES was a punishingly hard game, very unforgiving

Amnesia: The Dark Descent (main game play was brilliant, last 10-20 minutes lame)
Command and conquer 4 (the entire game was disapointing)
Blue Stinger (why you no answer biggest questions)
