The sad thing is that no body will be banned: the option which enables you not to upload your gameplay to Bioware will stop any cheater from being banned.

Wrong.
Turning of your tracking data does NOT!!!! hide credits or levels gain in X amount of time.
Turning off data tacking only hides how many times you died on what map, where you died, what weapon you were using, how much ammo you had, how much health you had, and etc and etc.

Things such as credits and N7 rank and character levels are not included in the data on/off switch.
They have a little more sense than that and it would be impossible for them to give you your credits since all your characters, credits, and N7 rank all are stored on their servers.

Silly people. xD

I don't think bans are appropriate; I think an account reset is sufficient punishment. I also appreciate the symmetry of it.

What I find curious is the argument that some "harm" must result to other players for the course of conduct to be considered cheating. This is irrelevant to the determination of whether said conduct is cheating, though it should inform the punishment phase.

While it might be interesting to attempt to academically define "cheating," and whether abuse of a known exploit constitutes cheating, it is again irrelevant. EA's Terms of Service for their online services cover this.

http://tos.ea.com/le...n/PC/#section11

Under section 11, Rules of Conduct, it specifically addresses this issue:

- Promote, encourage or take part in any activity involving hacking, cracking, phishing, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF EXPLOITS or cheats and/or distribution of counterfeit software and/or virtual currency/items. [emphasis added]

Everyone playing this game stipulates agreement to this provision. I would point out that showing people how to engage in this action and/or defending its use in these forums could in of itself be considered grounds for action under the ToS.

EDIT: Couple more relevant sections:
- Use and communicate exploits and/or cheats.
- Abuse or exploit bugs, undocumented features, design errors or problems in the game.

I HAVE AN IDEA: DON'T EXPLOIT IT.

You agreed not to do it, or else they can ban you. If you exploit it, they have every right to punish you. It's your own fault for not living up to your side of the agreement, and if you didn't want to get banned, you wouldn't have done it.

It's not rocket science. It's not morals. It's people not thinking before they act- ie, being idiots.

Simple.

Making this a moral argument is just so stupid. If its in the game and people use it to greater effect then isn't that just making use of your resources?  My salarian engineer has a rediculously easy time farming gold. Is that "cheating"?  Or is it using things to your advantage.

Since no one bothered to read my first post, this doesn't hurt anyone. There is no real economy. If EA does do something about it, it will be for financial reasons, not moral ones. Everyone needs to calm down with the name calling because it is 1) an invalid claim, and 2) self righteous.  We can have a discussion about ME without name calling and after this post I will be reporting posts that resort to this.

Look, beyond all arguement are two facts:
1.  This is clearly an exploit.
2.  We all agreed not to use exploits when we agreed to the terms of service.

As a result, anyone using the glitch is neccessairly a liar.  I'm pretty sure that's a moral issue.

Your skewed prejudice aside, most people will agree that there's a key difference between the two. As I pointed out, the credit exploit still requires that players complete the tenth wave objective on Gold. The fact that players are skipping the first nine waves simply means they're spending less time to get there - it in no way makes the game any 'easier'.

It does make the game easier their is less of a chance of them failing on the previous waves, it also saves them equipment they may have used in the earlier waves

Seriously, who cares? I can understand glitching in a VS type game getting you banned because you're getting an advantage over other people. But there's no advantage here.... your playing cooperatively and all the money/xp earned is the same no matter if you were #1 or #4 in the game. So I don't really understand why people have their panties up in a wad over this... it doesn't matter!

Yeah basically what I said. People act like this is a PvP shooter where one person's advantage is another person's disadvantage. I did read earlier that that people were afraid that BW would take out in game credits altogether and use MS points instead. That is very hard to believe as it would kill replay value but I personally would not mind it IF I like me have a higher chance of getting something I want.

I think that people who do this glitch shouldnt get banned or reset because lets say someone spent 6400 microsoft points on spectre packs and then did the glitch once and get reset. Bioware is basically taking their 80 dollars for a mistake they didnt catch in the beta and demo stages of the game

They aren't going to ban you for stumbling into the glitch once or twice. It'd be too easy to refute that it was an accident. But people who are OBVIOUSLY doing it OVER AND OVER again ( anybody with common sense would be able to tell ) deserve to be banned, because they agreed that they wouldn't abuse game exploits when they joined up.

It's that simple. If they didn't want to get banned, they shouldn't have done it.

I'm not arguing what's moral- I'm not arguing what's "cheating". I'm saying that if people get banned, they will have NO right, whatsoever, to complain about it. It'll be their own faults.

It's not like you're just pushing a button and receiving credits; you still have to be able to beat Gold on wave 10.

And maybe if what you got from packs wasn't so worthless, there might be less glitching to access the content that you already paid for.

Credit glitching affects me. If enough people do it, it undermines the viability of the store as a moneymaker for EA/Bioware, which means that all new content will probably cost money (developers need to be paid). So, because some people HAD to have every gun and weren't willing to do it the intended way, I'm out 10 bucks every time there's a new map or character pack. If I don't buy it, then I'll only be able to play with SOME people. And that's a big reason why MP communities die.

I don't care if it's fun for you or doesn't matter in the short run. If you credit glitch, you are making it significantly more likely for it to cost everybody real money for actual new content. That will make the MP less enjoyable for everyone in the long run. What do you really gain, after all? A shiny new gun you don't need to succeed anyway?

Guess what genius, they are going to charge you for DLC anyways, whether you glitch or not.

What are you? 12 years old? This is how the world works. They make stuff and charge you for it. They don't make free stuff to reward those not glitching.

The developers have already been paid ( or did you think all of the $60 you spent on ME3 went straight to Gamestop?)
this is just their way of sucking more money out of you
other money making schemes include:
1. DLC (DISC LOCKED CONTENT)
2. Undewhelming DLC
3. Making a terrible ending to boost ending DLC sales

You're right. From a business standpoint they won't sit by while potential outcome is wasted. I don't believe that it will impact the cost of DLC - it might if they decided they were feeling generous, but I maintain that the cost would also depend on other factors.

Well, it was mostly odd considering how on-point you are replying to everyone else. The reason I believe it will impact the cost of DLC is that the pack is obviously designed with a "freemium" mindset. It's only viable in the long term if there are going to be new things to get, and people aren't going to want to pay $5-$10 for a CHANCE to get new weapons or classes. Many companies offer freemium products- League of Legends is just the one that springs to mind immediately. For another big name, Dust 514 went freemium. I could list all the ****ty Zynga games, but they operate on a more consumable-based approach, which is much more easily sustained (thus the two special equipment packs we've gotten), soit's  not really fair to bring them into the equation.

EA will maximize their earning potential by making it possible to access the new content for free so everyone is a potential customer. They know this- they've seen it themselves with Ultimate Team. The marketplace certainly demonstrates this. My argument is predicated on EA wanting more money, and recognizing that microtransactions have become the best way to generate money over the long-term, and those microtransactions are strengthened by free content to keep old players and attract new ones.

Of course the cost of at least some DLC will consider other factors, such as development cost and advertising. You're going to see this more with new MP modes and SP content, though (and until they actually release one, I'm skeptical even a whole new MP mode will cost money). Even allowing for other factors, if people are exploiting their system so they don't make as much money, that's going to be a big factor, and it's foolish in the extreme to dismiss it entirely.

TL;DR: EA stands to make more money providing new MP content for free, and, given the success microtransaction machines (including their own) have had, they know this. This makes them more likely (not certain) to release new content for less money. If the microtransaction machine is broken, they'll need to make up that money somewhere, and somewhere is ALWAYS the consumer. Exploiters break the system. Therefore, their actions are at least somewhat likely to hurt us, and they don't benefit us in any way. Ergo, it's a bad thing for the playerbase at large- possibly costing us while never helping us, unless the playerbase at large is mostly guilty of exploiting, which just exacerbates the problem. It's Kant's categorical imperative in action.

There is just one thing you are still not understanding chief, Big game Developers and Microsoft won't allow "freemium" content. That's why Robert Bowling left COD MW3. he wanted to give free maps that were based on old maps from COD4, MW2.

It's not like people in Halo: Reach just pressed a button and received credits; they still had to work for it.

What they did hurt no one either.. the credits they got were used simply for armor and armor effects.. but people still got banned/reset over it even though it effected no-one and in no way gave them an advantage over others. Even if the two games are worlds apart.. the same should hold true.

Both 'glitches' hurt no-one, both glitches just got people what they could've eventually got anyway. Admittedly the 'randomization' of the packs in Mass Effect 3 makes things more annoying but ultimately the risk and precedent is still there for people to get reset or banned at Bioware's discretion..

Also: Getting the credits through a glitch as opposed to using real money are two different things. Bioware/EA/Microsoft/Sony get profits if you use real money.. they have nothing to gain if you glitch your way through and would have nothing to lose by resetting/banning you.

Really? You believe in decency yet you want people to be tasered in the genitals for using a glitch to get fake game money? lol... you're coming off as hypocritical, immature, and certifiable. I haven't read every post in this long thread, but I've yet to see (a good reason) why us none glitchers should care about them. I'll save my outrage and anger for real problems like war, world hunger, crime, etc... not a multiplayer shooter lol.

No, not really.  I thought it was rather obvious that I was joking on the tazering.  I do, however, find it disturbing and yet not surprising that those who support cheating would consider their genitals as "their most prized body part".

Besides being completely IRRELEVANT to this thread- that's definitely not nice.

People actually think EA is more evil than Bank of America? Bank of America? This doesn't speak in waves of how evil EA is- it speaks in waves of how STUPID the people who voted for EA are. A bunch of bandwagon-hopping babies who don't know what a Bank is, let alone how terrible BoA is.

"Oh man, Bank of America is guilty of corruption, fraud, misleading homeowners, and misappropriating their customers' money? THAT' S NOT NEARLY AS BAD AS THE ENDING EA GAVE MY FAVORITE GAME."

.. I'm actually even more ashamed of this fandom now than when people asked for their money back from Child's Play.

It's certainly an aside, but still a little bit relevant. We 'are' talking about the company banning people. They're entitled and it's within their power to do so, certainly, in the same way that a university professor is allowed to refuse an assignment handed in ten minutes late - they could accept it, but they don't have to.

I chortled a little when I heard about the award. I don't think it's entirely because of Mass Effect 3, more so about the business practices of the company. Mass Effect 3 may have played a part in it though.

Re-posting from another thread because I think it's awesome when people do that and now I can say I've done it....

I'm a filthy cheater and you should be too. EA glitches us all out of money everytime they release an unfinished game.

Banning/resetting is not in the best interest of EA/Bioware who only care about $$$ in the end. Therefore banning us community of cheaters will vastly reduce that DLC income! They'll patch it and pretend it never happened.

It's all about maximizing profits, you honest and morally good folk can do what morally good and honest folk do.... BEND OVER and take it. :)
