*facepalm*

Explain to me why "all new RPGs" should have respawns. Are respawns a revolutionary new gameplay mechanic or something? All you have been able to come up with is that you like killing things. Which, quite frankly, scares me.

Are you even reading our replies? Nobody is saying that. What we're saying is that it depends on the TYPE of game. BioWare does not make sandbox games, because open world/sandbox games do not conform to good writing. What does respawning enemies or repeatable quests (I still have no idea what you are talking about outside of an MMO) bring to the game? How do those things improve it?

look at fable series, its story driven and has respawns so the world stays lively, and they are classics.

classics to who? The general consensus is that Fable was horrible. The fact of the matter is that you're pulling words and phrases out of nowhere with no substance to back them up with. You have not explained what you think the difference is between "old" and "new" RPGs, and you have not explained what "classic" means.

I can see both sides of this argument.

When you play this game through the first time the content is there. Respawning is unecessary and yes, it is very much centered around the story instead of a grind. I don't see a problem with the way the game is for one play through.

However, after completing the game I still wanted to play it some more. I wanted to try new characters, I wanted to toy around with new builds and new teams and bust some more skulls open. I wanted to earn enough money to buy such and such items. I wanted to experience the combat and the character progression. The story and the lack of respawning monsters at this point just puts a damper on this effort. It makes finding combat to participate in a very time consuming process. I am tired of hitting ESC through 10 minute dialouges I know by heart. On a second and third time through I just want to kill stuff and progress aka grind.

I am crossing my fingers waiting for a mod that will simply respawn areas so I can travel around clearing dungeons just for the fun of combat without participating in the extraordinairly lengthy story line. Or alternatively, something to shorten the story line when playing through a second time.

Simple.. start a different character.. You read a book it's finished, same principle applies. Want to just kill things ... play an FPS.

Books should have repeatable paragraphs.  And movies should have an option to loop the end scene after the credits.

Don't even get me started on board games.  Why does Chess have to end just because of checkmate?  I want to move my pieces around more.

DA is basically two things #1 the story #2 the combat & character building

Doing #1 over and over again is not fun for anyone

Doing #2 over and over again is fun for some people. That may or may not be you.

Respawning areas would allow us to do #2 while circumventing most of #1. Somone please mod this!

If you want open-ended gameplay, you should probably play an open-ended game. While it's possible that DAO will eventually end up so heavily modified that its various main quest areas might be reasonably described as "persistent", that's a long way away.

In the meanwhile, if you want to do all the quests again, go ahead. There's a perfectly serviceable "New Game" button on the main menu. If you just want to do some of the quests again, save the game before starting each big mission, so you have something to come back to.

This isn't a sandbox game, it isn't open-ended, and it isn't an MMO. Heroes are victorious, villains are defeated, princesses are rescued, and evil is vanquished. Sorry if that's not to your liking.

Level 25 was not meant to be reached through normal play. Even with the DLCs, it may take up until May to get enough content to reach 25. The idea of respawns would unbalance the gameplay.

All respawns would do is add more fun to the player.even if they stop giving out exp or items, some people just like killing and useing there gear and weapons they gathered through the story/main character.

You want a never-ending RPG? Go play WoW, or any other reasonably good MMO out there (though something tells me you already do). Most single-player games end at some point. There will be DLCs for you to test your gear against, and if you're really itching to kill something as you keep saying, start a new game with another character. It's not rocket science, man : /

LVL 25 is very attainable if you open every chest, disarm every trap you find, read every book, and do nearly everything in the game BEFORE the landsmeet. This means pretty much going through the entire game with the "TAB" key pressed down though. I made this easy by switching the TAB with the SPACE BAR for highlighting items. By switching these two keys you will find it much easier to move and look around at the same time for things you pass by. Sometimes I even wedge the space bar down so things always show up. I've never failed to hit 25 by the time I reach the alienage by looking at, and opening everything I see. There are many little "unknown" quests to be finished by reading books, and scraps of paper all over the world. I'm sure many people miss out on vast exp by blowing past alot of content.

I HATE RESPAWNS!!!  I am so glad that they didnt include them.  The only area that it would make any sense in is the deep roads.  Anyway, it's nice to go back and get stuff and the stuff you killed is still dead.

I think that naysayers missed our point about respawns. I too would like if say Deep Roads had respawns. This is why.

You play the game all the way through, build your char just how you want him, and naturally you get attached to your Grey Warden and his abilities in fighting darkspawn.

And the way things are now, when I finish the game, with my favorite Grey Warden I have nothing to do with him...I'd like to enjoy his uberness and if I want just kill darkspawn somewhere with impunitiy and not just restart the whole game.
Argument about go play WoW or FPS are off the mark and quite insultive tbh.

For instance I played rpg's all the way through Icewind Dale's, Baldurs Gate's all xp's included, all Neverwinter's and am still actively playing on a persistent world and many others(Planescape, Elder Scrolls, Kotors...).
The main thing for me is story, obviously but once I finish the game I'd like to be able to still enjoy my char's fighting prowess..to give me something to do while waiting for another DLC or Awakening. I mean my 'desire' for new content is such that I've done all of the origins more than once and gone thru 3 full plays with different toons.

and like i sadi some of you do not like the idea of respawns and some of us do,well for those of you who dont a great thing about this game for you is that you dont have to go back, and i dont constantly want to fight on doa all day i know there are other games out there i can fight creatures on all day,its just i like the combat on DOA and i am attached to my grey warden/main toon, and somtimes it would be cool to down a few dark spawn because i think the combats fun,i dont care if its meaningless i think its fun and thats what games should be right?fun.

Arkend, I think we all would be a little more understanding if your reasoning for wanting respawns was not simply so you could kill things.

Personally, I'd love to see random encounters. At a certain point in the game you've experienced virtually every scripted encounter there is in Feralden and then there is no more. I had some last minute business (worth a lot of gold) to accomplish before the last three sequences of the game that required me to go from city to city several times and experienced no attacks at all since I had experienced them all earlier in my game. Felt a bit odd considering how far the Blight had supposedly advanced.

If you are attached to your "main toon" then WoW is clearly the game for you. As far as I know, non-WoW players don't even have "toons"; we have "characters",

One of the defining aspects of a story is that it has a beginning, middle, and end. You really do seem to be playing the wrong sort of game.

I like the idea of revisiting some wilderness place and a random pack of beasts would be there, like what they did in BG1 and 2. That was a fun feature that really added a sense of danger to wilderness areas. Even roaming in and out of the Gnoll Keep, you'd probably bump into like 3 packs of the buggers on your way out, through areas you'd already been recently.

That may even exist in DA:O, but I wouldn't know about it, because I rarely have a reason to revisit those places. There aren't really any quests in DA:O that send you to revisit anything. Through liberal use of the TAB key, you can pretty much cover every major questline and codex entry in one pass.
