Sounds like a great game! When does it come out?!

Personally, I think the ending was flawed, but could have been worse. But I have a serious problem with this. I mean, it implies that they didn't really have a clue where the plot was going. Surely you have to at least have a general outline before you start writing, otherwise you start running into problems with how to properly prepare your audience for it. Seems like the main reason the ending came out of nowhere.

Incidentally, I was just reading another thread about how Javik's one of the best tools for foreshadowing the ending. Maybe this is because the ending was actually written at that time? Really isn't acceptable to just write a plot-based game as you go, with no plan.

I will consider all to be forgiven if the following are true:

1: The ending is either replaced or augmented in a way that makes logical sense, for free, with an ending worthy of the series.

2: It was a marketing ploy, and Casey and others are under NDA (ie: legal reasons) from telling us what is coming.

3: The fix is out very soon. We paid for a complete game, we were promised it on 6-March. Waiting until the fall would really be pushing it.

Bonus points if we have a clear ranting target deserving of blame that absolves Bioware (ie: their parent company).. or bonus points if the ending includes a difficult to achieve SP "happy ending" option.

Given the above is true, I'd be more than happy to pay for additional (SP) DLC, in between now and ME4.

We'll see Friday.

An episode of “Hoarders” recently sent me into a neurotic frenzy of cleaning. While sorting through a pile of crap I found a copy of “Game Informer” I bought for its cover story on Mass Effect 3, dated from around this time last year. Because I’m a masochist I decided to re-read the article to see what was being said about a year ago. I’ve cherry-picked a few passages I thought were funny in hindsight.

From a section entitled THE PLAN:

“In Mass Effect 3, you know you need to take back Earth, but the path to victory is less clear at the outset. You won’t just find some long-lost Reaper “off” button; says Hudson”

From a section called OLD CONFLICTS, NEW ALLIES:

“Don’t expect to win the loyalty of the galaxy by simply completing a series of fetch quests,”

This is a text block entitled MASS EFFECT MEETS MULTIPLAYER?

“When the teaser for Mass Effect 3 first released, rumours were swirling that the project was actually a multiplayer title set in the Mass Effect universe. Those rumours turned out to be false, but it got many gamers thinking about how a multiplayer component would fit into the Mass Effect trilogy. Rest assured, the team has thought about this, too. “As a single-player experience, and just as a world that people want to immerse themselves in and share, we’ve been trying to think of a way that makes sense for people to experience Mass Effect with their friends,” says executive producer Casey Hudson. “We haven’t yet come up with a way to do that, so we don’t have anything to announce at this time. But, obviously, multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company.”

In a section called BEYOND THE TRILOGY:

“… part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving… I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn’t it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take a ship to Omega? That makes sense.”

this is exactly why i am so pissed about the ending and other lesser issues in the game. it wouldnt be so bad if they hadnt promised the exact opposite of what they delivered in nearly EVERY pre release interview  they had and then when players respond negatively to the endings their defense is artistic INTEGRITY and by the way if you google what integrity means this is the definition given "The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness." but i guess i am just being a whiny entitled fanboy

It hurts when someone constantly lies to your face.

No one else notice that Game Informer not only never called out Hudson for these lies but also gave Mass Effect 3 a 10/10?

Hence why I take 10/10 reviews with a huge mountain of salt.

Any game is perfect if you ignore what is wrong with it?

It feels like they spent all their money and time creating trailers for TV commercials, instead of making the game that they promised. They appear to be valuing sales over product quality.

Seriously, someone over there needs to fall on their sword (figuratively) for this one.

My question? How can Bioware accept this. They read these threads, and they know what they said. What happened?

It makes me so sad, knowing that they read all of these threads about them making their own promises, I mean, How can they post in a thread of their lies, expecting us to stay civil?
It's just hypocrisy to the max.

I think its why Casey Hudson has basically gone off the map haven't heard from him since the game came out.

When the guy filed the FTC complaint a few weeks back, at the time I thought that was way over the top. I'm beginning to change my opinion on that.

I've been holding back quite a bit until I hear from BW on Friday about the ending, but the false statements made in this and other interviews about the rest of the game are piling up. I can forget about the ending if it is corrected, but no matter how they correct their mistakes at this point I will not forget the lies. That will always be in the back of my mind when deciding whether or not to purchase something from BW in the future.

Just tell me, how do so many people turn into grown ass adults without ever learning the value of honesty? At least in business for !#%#'s sake?

I'd love for there to be a panel discussion at PAX where fans can ask questions... these fans should bring up these quotes and ask what happened.

This is the exact OPPOSITE of what you can do in the game after the "ending". When I started ME-3, all I was thinking is "gonna kill these Reapers, then find Miranda on whatever clandestine home she has fashioned for herself and have the best Post-Save-the-Galaxy Sex ever". THAT was the plan. And that cannot happen with these endings!!

I want to be optimistic and say that they were just hyping up the game by giving vague albeit misleading teasers, but these are just straight up lies.

Of course, to paraphrase gamermd83, they probably were trying to BLOW OUR MINDS with the ending by giving a completely unexpected plot twist, but instead it just fell flat for a lot of us. Leaving many of us disappointed and feeling emotionally dissatisfied with the resolution of a Stargazer/Child in the distant future.

Unlikely. I'm sure EA's PR control will have more than enough actors planted so they can ask meaningless questions about things that have nothing to do with Bioware fixing their issues.

I just hope no fans lose it there. There could be a thousand level headed retakers there and the only one who will make the news is that guy who throws his big gulp.
