WTF happened in the time between that article and Feb 6 (when ME3 went gold)?

I have the same issue. Found another tidbit and figured I'd share it...

In the section called "NEW GAME +"

NEW GAME +
Handling replayability in the story-driven title is a challenge. The first Mass Effect made extensive use of new game+ features, allowing players to start new characters with significant bonuses. The second entry had a similar feature, but focused more on letting players continue doing missions as the same character. Where will Mass Effect 3 fall in this spectrum? "It's probably going to be a combination of both," says executive producer Casey Hudson. "We're going to have a version of the post-game state that you can go back to and finish more stuff, but then we'll have stuff you can loop back around and do in new game+. It's a hybrid of the two."

(emphasis mine)

So that's interesting.

:wizard:

Yeeeep. As if we needed more.

What I really want to hear more than anything else right now (besides that BW is totally gutting and repairing the game) is the straight forward truth of what the hell happened to make so much of what was planned go completely bass akwards.

I'm absolutely certain the nature of the ending was last minute. It was never planned. So Casey's early comments were probably truthful 'at the time'.

If so then what creature from hell possessed them to release the current ending.

He also talked about not having ABC endings with GameInformer in January.

What a fun set of lies.

Hold the line.

And video game journalists wonder why this has angered the fanbase so much?

That should be industry suicide in my opinion. If what you say is true, Casey Hudson should never be allowed to write a character biography, let alone a major game mission EVER again. How can you not write an ending of a game that adheres to the previously established narrative?

Yeah, I really cannot understand how Bioware fell so far from the tree. Its like they just gave up.

What he says is so crystal clear..

ROFL!

I didn't say that. I just said it was interesting :P

I know, I'm just having a hard time picturing Hudson's creative vision in the sentence I quoted.. It just talks about stuff..

Sounds like a great game! When does it come out?!

Sadly, the better of two possibilities is slowly and in DLC form.

No, that's the guy who was supposed to go "Uh Casey, why is Cerberus so important and have such a large army? Uh, Casey, why does Miranda keep complaining about putting a control chip in my brain? Uh, Casey, why is there no dialogue between Ashley and Miranda, when you finally get them in the same room on Sanctuary? Uh, Casey, the ending is chock full of WTF. Uh, Casey, why does Kai Leng get to recharge his shields in the middle of battle, even becoming translucent at times and completely ignoring damage? Uh, Casey, why were the ME-2 squadmates reluctantly placed into the game?"....I can keep going but my fingers are tired.

I always found it funny that we had a thread a while ago listing all the lies and Chris Priestly locked it down saying they are not lies.

true story

Mass Effect 2 handed them a silver platter to finish the series and they pooped on it!

In that particular thread I think the author chose quotes poorly. There were many listed that could only vaguely be interpreted as a lie.

There are plenty of rock solid quotes of direct lies without having to also list weak ones.

I can't speak for anybody else but...

Omanisat wrote...

“… part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving… I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn’t it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take a ship to Omega? That makes sense.”

This one hurts the most.

I'm re-reading the January interview, and love this particular bit:

Q: Is there a more specific villain or is it still just kind of the general threat of the Reapers?

A: In the first one we had Saren. In the second one, we wanted to introduce some mystery into who’s doing what, and that was supposed to be the Illusive Man. In the third game, yeah, I think we’re introducing a clearer target for Shepard, a clearer foil.

I want to know what the hell happened on Bioware to make them release current Mass Effect 3? Did they lose their earlier builds completly and needed to quickly make some half-arsed job to have something pushed to the market?

Was that the mag with the promo picture where a Cerberus trooper jumped right through the Normandy's loft window while Shepard ducked for cover behind his desk?

Oh, Bioware. A year or two from now, when it all settles down, you really must explain to us what the hell went wrong.
