I know I'm overstating the obvious here, but obviously something happened along the way where someone with a lot of clout derailed the original scope of the game for some reason.
I wish that person had just minded their own damn business. Image IPB

Why must everyone always suspect outside interference? It's not uncommon for developers to make big promises then not have the time to implement their big ideas.

It is less common for developers to keep talking nonsense even when they should know better - e.g. the "It's not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C" ending comment made in January 2012, when it should have been clear to the person making the comment that that was exactly what they did have for an ending.

Maybe Casey forgot what game he was being interviewed about? Image IPB

I found my GI Magazine and here is another quote from Hudson.

Can you say anything about how Shepard thinks that beating the Reapers is an attainable goal.

"Part of the trick is that the nature of that kinda of story is that initially it has to be kind of hopeless. Then, you start finding a reason to believe. But if I tellyou that reason to believe right now, then the story up front doesnt make sense when you play, because you're waiting for X to happen. That's the thing we dont want to reveal."

Yep, the freaking starchild make entire troligy does not make sense.
Bloody well done.

You ever hear of crunch time? It is that small period at the END of a developmental period where you POLISH the small cracks in your product... NOT FILL IT WILL CEMENT, AND HALF OF A COUNTRY...

I've known intellectual types like Mr. Hudson who seem to be breathing atmosphere at a higher level than everyone else. The most likely scenario in the flap over the intentionally misleading marketing wordage (that guys like he specifically said) and what the product actually does (breaking with prerelease statements to the contrary) is that Casey Hudson bears the lions share of the blame for decisions that have us all mired in the ME3 debacle. I've come to picture him somewhat like Mordin in the third game, but operating without that beloved characters sense of remorse. Now if only Hudson was as equally single-minded about "fixing" the problem, regardless of the repercussions. He is the only one who will get it right!

[Updated] Hopefully this mornings press release will be something that will strike enough of a balance to alleviate most gripes. I don't envy the team behind the scenes, but wish them the best and look forward to seeing what is in store.:)

Haha, I found my copy under a pile of class notes from last semester not too long ago. It's a bit enlightening to see why my hopes for the game and the *actual* game were so different..

An episode of “Hoarders” recently sent me into a neurotic frenzy of cleaning. While sorting through a pile of crap I found a copy of “Game Informer” I bought for its cover story on Mass Effect 3, dated from around this time last year. Because I’m a masochist I decided to re-read the article to see what was being said about a year ago. I’ve cherry-picked a few passages I thought were funny in hindsight.

From a section entitled THE PLAN:

“In Mass Effect 3, you know you need to take back Earth, but the path to victory is less clear at the outset. You won’t just find some long-lost Reaper “off” button; says Hudson”

From a section called OLD CONFLICTS, NEW ALLIES:

“Don’t expect to win the loyalty of the galaxy by simply completing a series of fetch quests,”

This is a text block entitled MASS EFFECT MEETS MULTIPLAYER?

“When the teaser for Mass Effect 3 first released, rumours were swirling that the project was actually a multiplayer title set in the Mass Effect universe. Those rumours turned out to be false, but it got many gamers thinking about how a multiplayer component would fit into the Mass Effect trilogy. Rest assured, the team has thought about this, too. “As a single-player experience, and just as a world that people want to immerse themselves in and share, we’ve been trying to think of a way that makes sense for people to experience Mass Effect with their friends,” says executive producer Casey Hudson. “We haven’t yet come up with a way to do that, so we don’t have anything to announce at this time. But, obviously, multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company.”

In a section called BEYOND THE TRILOGY:

“… part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving… I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn’t it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take a ship to Omega? That makes sense.”

OP bump for great justice.

I think we need to hold an intervention and get Hudson in to see a specialist. It's like he's incapable of telling the truth. Almost every direct statement he has made about ME 3 over the last year has been almost the exact opposite of what he says. It has to be an illness.

MX2

maybe if we get them to tell lies it turn out to be good o.O

That reminds me of just about every interview with Jade Raymond about Assassin's Creed 1 talking about stuff that weren't gonna be in the game.

Yeah, I remember that one too.

"Timing is essential, it only takes a couple of hits to kill you"
"It's much easier to avoid a fight altogether"

Ah, good times. xD

Well they still have an out if they do the Indoc Theory and make a farce out of the God Child one button thing and go with a real ending where we can actually fight. EA really needs to loosen their grip and allow them to make this right. As it stands now, I will never buy a Bioware game as long as EA owns them.

I got this month's Game Informer yesterday, and it had a review of ME3.
10/10, they gave it.

And I'll pull a quote from it.
"This dark tale wraps up all the trilogy's loose ends and delivers one of the most powerful video games experiences to date."

I take issue with the word 'dark'. The ending was a powerful experience though

From another perspective, lies is a good thing right? If whatever he says that's not going to happen, will happen, then that's like telling us everything, but in reverse. So in the future all we need to do is reverse whatever he says, so if he says yes then it's no, if no then yes, and so on.

Hahaha, problem solved.  :pinched: LOL

I also laughed at Omanisat's (OP's): "Because I’m a masochist"

Thank you both! :-)

But then of course, it's sad to see what they've stated.

And, espceially for me now - since, a couple of years ago, all I heard and read was that BioWare was such a great company- And I., myself, was happy to see and notice in-game, they actually listened to their fans - but now, they've kind of counted me out, since I'm a Single Player - and will always be- so I guess it's time for me to count them out completely too then... :'-(

But then again LOL thinking of what Utopianus wrote... there may be hope yet... Image IPB

Or things like "social stealth" and helping out "factions" so that they'll help you, etc...

I just remember the AC1 trailer were Altaïr kills a guy with a crossbow, a weapon that wouldn't be in the final game (for historical accuracy reason, at least that was a good reason).

Anyone here read the ME3 review in PSM? Was a very fair review, stated that the ending fell flat on its face, but still gave the game a real good score, which while it did have plenty of quirks it still had lots of good points.
