Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that Dark Channel has a unique passive ability that makes it the king of biotic combos? It does not dissapate when detonated. Unlike for example warp, or singularity, those effects end and can not be detonated a second time (the singularity collapses when detonated, and warp fades). However, I noticed that even after you detonate Dark Channel it stays active on the same target or if the target dies from the biotic detonation it jumps to a nearby enemy, so Dark Channel can be detonated multiple times. Try running a build with adept + liara, and you can chain warps to detonated Dark Channel 3 times in a row on a brute. This is insane. Is my game bugged or has anybody else noticed this?

I've noticed that it doesn't dissipate after detonation, but I haven't studied it extensively as I have yet to unlock it for bonus power use.

I won a Prima strategy guide but it has no information on when bonus powers are unlocked.  There are some threads on the subject, but nothing comprehensive yet.

I can tell you when you get all the powers. Dark Channel, and a bunch of others you get right before the the final missions. You go talk to Javik in his quarters and you will have a cutscene conversation and the power is unlocked. As a general rule, talk to every crew member between every single mission. I know it is tedious, but I didn't miss a single bonus power and you only have to do it on 1 playthrough to unlock them. All other playthroughs including new games will have all powers available.

So you're saying you kept both Kaidan and Ashley alive on Virmire?

Kidding.  I know what you mean.  Thanks, though.  Now I just have to muster the willpower to push through that geth consensus mission and get back to, oh I don't know, actually playing the game.  But I digress.

You don't need to talk to your squad between every mission, just major plot-forwarding missions.
And yes, Dark Channel can be detonated multiple time on a single target. But if you time it right you can get Dark Channel to spread to 2 targets and then get 2 explosions simultaneously. The trick is to hit a target with a biotic power RIGHT as Dark Channel is starting to hit them. It makes it jump to the next target but stay on the first. If they 2 enemies are close together you can get 2 separate explosions that damage both enemies, effectively doubling the power of detonations.

I believe reave also stays on the target after a biotic explosion. It's great because you can safely ignore them and they still die if the explosion didn't kill them.

It doesn't have the hopping ability though. Dark Channel plus Throw should be a pretty spamable combo with the effect hopping.

Most I've been able to multi-boom DC is 4 times. By then Javik's cooldown was over and it was repeat performance time.

The cool thing about DC vs. Reave is that it doesn't just stay on target. It moves to a different target after the current one is dead. It's a combo bot from 50k years ago!!! Love it.

How well does dark channel work with Charge? That sounds like fun. Does that mean there is always a tasty target to charge/ biotic explode?

I tried Dark channel on a Vanguard, it's good when it jumps but if there is no enemy near the one that dies from what i can see it cannot jump to an enemy that is further away from the initial one. Charging in to explode it plus a nova usually wipes out the whole enemy group even on insanity so i end up not seeing the jump effect of dark channel often. If dark channel is not jumping then Reave feels more effective imo.

Other excellent options i found as a bonus power at least for the vanguard class are Inferno Grenade and stasis. A lvl 6 inferno grenade can wipe out whole groups of enemys and the range of the explosion is huge if you take the range evolution with the extra shrapnel as the final evolution.

Stasis is just Stasis. It's always amazing

Lol I liked that mission..the first time...now it's just in the way.

OT: I like reave more. I originally went with barrier for my adept, but I chose reave and I'm glad I did. Not only can I set up and detonate, but I can do damage and get a pretty massive damage reduction (I think I spec mine for the full 40%). AoE reave is amazing as well, coupling that with shockwave makes for some awesome sounds.

Bring along kaidan w/ aoe reave and liara and basically everything is your playfield. Kaidan reaves and I use lifting shockwave (shockwave has been significantly improved, especially w/ lifting). Liara warps and I aoe reave. I also wanted to bring Javik - he's good, but I feel like my Kaidan has survived more often. (I improved his barrier). He took down a banshee pretty much by himself. I sat back and watched the whole thing..pretty awesome. Especially when giving him the revenant. annnnd now I'm pretty much off topic.

you get multiple powers from your characters.  every character gives at least 2, IIRC.  Liara gives stasis as well.

You're missing out..

Liara/Javik as squadmates is godly B)

Even Kaidan/Javik works well more so if you load them both up with the falcon >.<

It sounds like a bug as it deviates from the standard combo rules.

That said, this is a good find. I have unlocked this power but haven't really used it yet due to its high cooldown.

Dark Channel is good, but Reave is better IMHO.

Especially AoE Reave is insane.

Great Vid man. . . I especially like how you cut out everything after harbingers beam then cut to shepard waking up with liara saying we have unfinished business. I see you believe in the indoc theory, and Im glad you didnt ruin that epic video by putting the crap ending in there.

I also just had a new damage multiplier on Dark Channel confirmed to me by Eric Fagnan of Bioware. Until now all power stat upgrades have been assumed to only increase base damage, but the rank 6 evolution pierce actually increases the final damage on Dark Channel instead of just the base. Here is our conversation:

Hi Eric. I noticed you have a lot of know-how about ME3 mechanics, so if you don't mind could you clarify one thing for me?

The last evolution of Dark Channel has these 2 options +50% damage or +75% damage vs armor/barriers. Considering that the ability has a base damage of 20, this amounts to +10 damage per second vs all enemies, or +15 dps vs only armor and barrier bars. It seems like the pierce evolution is pretty weak with only +5 damage on brutes and banshees who have tons of HP. Is there anything special about the pierce multiplier?? Perhaps uses a different multiplier formula that increases the total damage instead of just the base damage? Or is it really just +5 damage at the expense of only working on barrier armor?

I personally would rather have the +10 damage vs all targets. My javik can choose 70 dps vs all targets, or 75 dps vs armor/barrier and 60 dps vs the rest. It just seems weak that we forgoe the damage bonus vs all targets just to get a 25% or 5dps extra vs those defenses. So is there a different multiplier used for that?

Eric Fagnan

The +75% against certain resistances is actually multiplied on the final damage number where as the +50% damage increase only multiplies the base damage value.

Thank you for clearing that up Sir, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Now the pierce evolution seems to be worth it if you wanna use it against brutes/banshees. Thanx again!

So now the options for dark channel is 70 dps vs all targets, or 60dps vs shields/health and 105dps (1.75 * 60) vs armor/barriers. This is awesome, and I assume that the incinerate bonus vs chilled/frozen targets is probably similar in that it multiplies total damage not just base but I am not sure.
