That's how it's like now. Bioware has no idea how much foreshadowing their Mass EAffect game did.
No one wants to admit it...

Well to be fair this time around is pretty unprecedented, a unified fan backlash of this extent hasn't really happened before. Since BioWare was the company that usually rose above and beyond everyone else it is sort of logical (in a twisted way) that they are the first to face this new age of social media backlash in this manner. Giants fall longer and harder than anyone else, and it usually gets uglier than most.
BioWare was caught unawares, and EA corporate management will be looking for scapegoats to take the fall before the shareholders. In the future other companies will look to what is happening now and take heed.
it is true that EA doesn't have any healthy brands (much to their own making), something they are probably very aware of... which means an even harder corporate line drawn against failures.

Unfortunately, money talks louder than petitions or groups of gamers. If people really want to see a change in the gaming industry, people need to stop buying games from companies who engage in these greedy practices. That is the only way things change in the world today. Money talks louder than anything in a society ruled by greed.

OMG - I think you're onto something!
"Reapers, Reapers, where did you get those Reapers?"
Yeah, OK, anyone under 55 in the shade is thinking WTF! But it's OK - or not....
"Reapers Reapers. Where did you get those Reapers?
Reapers Reapers. Where did you get those lies?"
Ah - got a million just like 'em! (Er - zounds completely unintentional pun.)
OK - I'm going away now.
cheers

Yeah I think this is a little overdramatic.
If there's a company attacking gamers, its Ubisoft. Yes, let's make you all keep connected to our online servers even while play Assassin's Creed. What's that? You don't have constant online connection? Well, how can we tell you're not a pirate then?
Yeah they can tell if you are a pirate. If you aren't ****ing about their DRM you are

Why do you think online passes even exist. You get one free when you buy the game new. The whole point of online passes is that it allows publishers to claw in some money from a second hand game sale where normally they get nothing.
http://en.wikipedia....iki/Online_pass
'Due to its use for fighting used game sales (a market nearly non-existent for the PC) rather than piracy and the ability of a pirated copy to include the downloaded content alongside the game, the system is not used for PC games.'
Given that they are used specifically to pull money in from used sales, if there were no used sales then there would be no need for an online pass.
Given your utter shock, why did you think online passes existed?

I've been having this very conversation at my Game Design/IT school, lots of people are fearful. Less and less people choose design over game tech, they want to be able to work outside this industry as a means of safety.

The fact that the price has dropped on ME3 across the board speaks to EA, that is why their tone keeps changing.

I use to use Mass effect quotes, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
