Regardless of it's about a couple of boxes or not , PS3 users are being excluded. For some(not me) it meant missing out on possibly getting content that was provided with the Collectors edition.
The content provided with the Collectors Edition is for single player only.
These packs for multiplayer challenges are for multiplayer only. The last one involved
one N7 weapon for the multiplayer and a bunch of other items we usually find in packs.
The issue lies on Sony's side. Communications need to be bilateral, and something, technical or legal, is preventing that with PS3 users on PSN. Having more experience does not require anything on our end. Bioware modifies the stats on its servers, everything is +25% EXP.
But when it comes to knowing how many brutes we killed, how many characters were promoted, etc, etc, this information needs to be pulled manually from Bioware/EA's servers,
this is a fact, and has been stated as such from Bioware employees. There's no real-time reports here.
Now, what does this mean? It means that this specific information must be sent from your machine to Bioware's server. PC is not a problem, by using Origin, we already relinquished our right to privacy during the game, even worst than that if we signed in with our Facebook account.
But PS3 is a problem. It's either due to privacy settings, or technical limitations of what information can be sent from the PS3 to EA/Bioware's servers. Read your privacy policy, check for 3rd party communications. You'll probably see something to the effect that no one but Sony will ever contact you, no personal information will be gathered from your PS3 without your consent.
Tracking your character's progress is one thing. Your medals are tracked by the game itself, and so is your character progress. You can not see in your Bioware profile on this forum which mission was your last mission in SP campaign, or wich monster you defeated last, it ain't the same issues. Same for MP, I can't see here how many troopers or centurions I killed in a game or in all my games.
So here's what I think is happening with multiplayer challenges: while you play the game, while you are in a mission, in this specific instance, your machine (PC/PS3/Xbox) must send specific data to EA/Bioware.
Origin is tied to our general EA account, and I figure Origin is doing "the spying" thing and reporting our every moves. We consented to that by agreeing with the EULA. PS3 users either do not have the Origin software or PSN does not let the game report specific tasks during gameplay.
This is why we can't have Mass Effect 3 on Steam, Steam does not allow direct communication between publisher/developper and game user, everything must transit through Steam, and that was unacceptable for EA.
As both EA and Sony are multi-national corporations, these things are not done with an handshake over a beer at a local bar.
Lawyers from both sides must review the agreements, make changes that won't otherwise affect their privacy policies, etc, etc.
If the issues are purely technical, then they are due to issues either with how PSN transmits data or how the PS3 itself transfers data. If it is indeed only a technical issue, I figure it's PSN related, not console-hardware related.
It sucks, I know. We are all sorry for you and other PS3 users, but complaining here won't achieve nothing. Bioware has told us all they can tell us. You can e-mail EA tech support, for what it's worth. It's the worst tech support in the industry and they will reply you bull****.
Bioware and EA will wash their hands, as these extra events are not related to the product they sold you. Nowhere
in your ME3 EULA did it talk about multiplayer challenges, nowhere on
the place they sold you the game did they mention anything about it. Not their problem.
On Sony's end: not their problem either, they never promised you could
participate in every multiplayer challenge organized by a game publisher/developper.
Be patient. No one has a definite, clear answer for you à la :"this is
exactly what is going on", no one wants to talk about that, these are
private talks between EA and Sony.
