Will gaming sites nominate ME3 for "Most Disappointing Game" in their 2012 awards?

I like to look at the big picture of things, and thinking about how massive a letdown ME3's ending was, and how massive and unrestrained the hype train was before this game's release, I believe ME3 could be a serious contender for any "Most Disappointing Game" awards at the end of this year.

Remember, 'disappointing' does not necessarily mean a bad game. Disappointing means the game did not live up to our expectations. The biggest gap between expectation and reality should win the award, regardless of game quality. And ME3 is a prime candidate, considering how many lies we were told about how expansive and responsive the game would be to our choices, our own personally high expectations for the trilogy ending, as well as the hundreds of hours we had invested into the series, its characters, and its universe.

Sure, most of the game was great. We had intensely high, even unmanageably high expectations going into the final showdown. Then the ending happened, and from the peaks of our anticipation, we fell into the deep chasm of reality, crumpling into a wincing heap at the bottom.

I just wonder how many gaming sites will actually have the guts to put ME3 on a "Most Disappointing Game" list. You've seen the ridiculous, overinflated review scores which make zero mention of the game's flaws. You're aware of the huge conflict of interest between games journalists and game reviewers. By now I'm sure you don't trust anything that comes out of a game journalist's mouth, and I wouldn't be surprised if they tread lightly as not to risk their exclusive interviews.

Even if ME3 doesn't make it on to any lists, at least we know it damn well deserves to be there.

You think that a bunch of indoctrinated clowns that gave the game perfect scores without even finishing it are going to go back on their idiocy and suddenly admit that ME3 was a disappointment?

Game journalism has forfeited its legitimacy. It's been irrevocably proven that they're just a bunch of self-important dweebs who slap high ratings on everything from major studios, assuming that the game is good enough to justify it. Then along comes an AAA release that's actually bad, and guess what happens? Yeah, they all fall through. Horribly.

But nobody is going to admit it. Bioware, EA, game journo's. Everyone lives in their shiny little world of pretense where ME3 was a staggering success and nothing went wrong. Let them. They'll discover soon enough that they can't live off each other's praise.

Well, I think it has the potential to go the other way. Remember Final Fantasy XIII? Reviewers loved it when it came out, and then with XIII-2, every review suddenly mentioned how flawed the first game was, as if they were retconning their own reviews.

It will take a lot longer than the end of 2012 for it to turn around though.

Well I dunno. I just don't really see this happening. Imagine if IGN were to suddenly concede that ME3 was bad afterall? I don't think they would. If anything I expect the ME3 fiasco to become gaming's family scandal that everyone purposefully avoids talking about during dinner parties.

Perhaps it'll be nominated, but no way that it'll "win".
ME3 is a truly excellent game with the ending being one of very few flaws.

Yeah, it'd be like BioWare eating the cupcakes. For some reason they would think it was a sign of acquiescing to the fans and admitting they had it wrong. Never. Gonna. Happen.

As I said, it's not about the overall quality of the game, it's about the discrepancy between expectation and reality. To feel so hyped to import your Shepard and start a playthrough ME3, and then to suddenly feel like you've wasted 100 hours of your life, is a pretty monumental discrepancy.

This is a good game - I promise. If you look at the "objective" factors, well, there is "fun gameplay", special effects and the like - even a good one. But the game had long since outgrown the level where anything from them apart from the process and, if possible, a beautiful picture is not required. Games like Mass Effect - cultural phenomena that have an independent humanitarian and ideological value. The gameplay here is of course important, but the list of reasons "why we love this series," it will go fourth, fifth ... and in terms of plot, the spirit and ideology of the gaming universe, this game - a painful and horrible end to the trilogy Mass Effect.

As you can see objectively review possible.

You have to remember a lot of people aren't as invested to the series as a lot of people on these forums are so they aren't as upset with the ending as this community. There probably will be mention of the ending, but I just can't see a game that people liked playing for the first 30+ hours to be on the worst of list because of the ending alone for there will be other games that are worse for the entire game to be given that nomination.

Just get out of your dream world.
Maybe game of the year.

I'm on the last 3 priority chapters and i've got one thing to say ... AMAZING GAME and idon't
care if Shepard will kill him self and all his team mates at the end (i don't believe the end is worst than that),
ME3 is a masterpiece in all aspects.

Given the fact that most professional review sites have defended BioWare and mocked the fans that want the ending changed, I don't think they'll nominate ME3 for "most disappointing game." However, if the fans have any say in the matter, I have no doubt that ME3 would be a serious contender.

I wouldn't say that the last 5 minutes of an amazing game being bad would qualify ME3 as biggest disappointment.

You sound like Chobot. Criticizing us before you've experienced the ending yourself.

It's difficult. Somehow I think it may qualify for both "Game of the Year" and "Most disappointing". Because for me it attains greatness with regularity during the bulk of the game, but that just makes the ending worse.

Slightly unlikely, being as most of them gave it 95% -perfect scores.

You've probably didn't read this:
" idon't
care if Shepard will kill him self and all his team mates at the end (i don't believe the end is worst than that),
ME3 is a masterpiece in all aspects.
"
Now it's clear ?

Yeah that's what I think most of us thought when they heard about the commotion but hadn't seen the actual ending yet. You're in for a heck of a surprise.

Almost everyone here thought the game was great - until the end. Then only 2% out of 70K+ liked the ending as-is. Just finish the game and then we can talk.

If the gaming site in question has EA and BioWare game adds all over the sides and top, then no, I don't expect it to end up on any derogatory listing.

This is without question the biggest fan base reaction I have ever seen in size and scope (DA2 had top honors before ME3). But no journalist who relies on EA and BioWare add money is going to say a thing about it other than spout off about how childish the fans are.
