Well, I think it has the potential to go the other way. Remember Final Fantasy XIII? Reviewers loved it when it came out, and then with XIII-2, every review suddenly mentioned how flawed the first game was, as if they were retconning their own reviews.

That happens with FIFA games every year, at least in spanish reviews. Every year is like "this is the good one, not like last year's edition, which was seriously flawed", and then the following year the same. Also happens with COD games. Everyone solves the obvious flaws of the predecessor (which was rated 9 or more out of 10).

I don't think it will happen. To me it was a ok game. Not including the ending.Still there is bound to be games with big expectations that fail. The year is young.

But there is also the idea that both the anti-end and the pro-end groups are a minority and that the true majority is made up of people who don't care enough either way to say anything.
That's probably got some truth in it.

People from other boards I visit regularly hate it too. My friends and collegues also think is awful (well, there is one that thinks is "just mediocre and lazy"), but most of them are in the "don't care about Bioware anymore" attitude (also disappointed by the DA2 fiasco).

Also you have all the polls from review websites, the "ending sucks" option always wins (and not just because of people from this board).

It is so funny because the fans suck so much that so many of them actually like the endings.:D

It stands to reason that the people who don't care enough to say anything don't have a very big problem with the game, otherwise they'd vent. On the other hand, the aforementioned "pro-end" groups might be only a small part of the actual section of players who liked the ending, with most of them simply enjoying the game and knowing that getting into an argument is pretty much futile.

Generally, the most vocal things you could see on internet forums are pre-release hype and post-release rage. This is quite simply the stuff that evokes the most emotions and hence the most responses.

I for my part still reserve judgment, but from watching these forums I would agree that ME3 would have a chance of being nominated for this award - based simply on my suspicion that the expectations of many die-hard fans have become so high that they were impossible to fulfill.

Games can be good and still disappoint. It's how I felt about DA2, anyways.

Just my two credits. :P

The irony is that they will try and grab the GOTY and then try and prove a point to fans

It  also  assumes that  each  vote for or against represent  only oneI  person of  course alts  multi accounts  we all know do  not  exist on the internet ...that seems  like quite a stretch too.

But also the ones pro-ending may be multi accounts.

It  also assumes  that  those that voted played  whereas even  on a few  boards  including  Bioware comments would indicate otherwise .....so even more stretching .

Also assumes that those that voted pro-ending played too.

They should try to grab this instead and finally get why the fans are upset.

BW was making the game from the ground up and at the time were in control, it would not have been impossible to live up to the hype. It is just that in the end they would have had to deliberatly chose not to.

I don't think they need to "try and grab" the GOTY in order to prove anything to fans.

I think their sales numbers will prove that the game will be a success.  There is no way some negative opinions about 5 min. of a game will eliminate Mass Effect 3 from the running (and probably award) of GOTY in a lot of major outlets.  You do realize that the game has already recieved over 70 perfect scores from many gaming outlets?

And you know that most of them are bull**** and lies. Quite  a few of them have retracted and gone defensive.

Outlets are bias either way. Sales could have been better either way. And it WILL NOT get GOTY

If there was a category of "most disappointing ending", maybe. Most disappointing GAME? I don't think so.

No, but I bet that Forbes will when they finish writing articles that use quotes from humorists as serious argumentative ammunition.

You know, because they're the last bastion of integrity and all.

Coming from gaming press that doesn't mean anything. Is like EA telling us the game is perfect.

We still have a while to go before the end of 2012, so who knows.

I thought the majority of gamers liked the game as a whole, though, and it was only the ending (and other small niggles) that people were disappointed with.

It's not Dragon Age II, let's put it that way.

I loled at IGN score, it isn't partial at all ( just IGN chick in the game), and I laughed even more when I read about originality of the ending in other reviews.
My lesson: I will never read any reviews again. BW and EA are greedy as the devil himself.

You proclaiming that it will not get GOTY does not mean it won't.  Even if you type in all caps.  LOL

I think you may be misinformed.  I have a friend who works for a gaming outlet site.  Your opinion of how reviews work is simply incorrect.

Well in my opinion it was the most disappointing. And just like everyone else here, I only care about my opinion and the opinions of others who agree with me.

See, it works both ways.
