I've attempted the No-Reload Challenge before; that was before I downloaded Sword Coast Strategems II, which makes no reloading (and combat in general) quite difficult. So I'm posting my rules and format for myself here, just to make them public (somehow I feel like that makes my rules more "official" to me.

1. I have a full install of Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast with the following mods (in no particular order):
  • Easy Tutu

  • Wide Screen Mod

  • Hard Times

  • ESeries Scripts

  • BG1NPC Pack

  • Sword Coast Stratagems II
2. I will have a total of five reloads available to me that must last me over the course of both campaigns.

3. I have to complete all possible sub-quests.

4. I have given my character two boons (using Shadow Keeper):
[list]

[*]I have given him five scrolls of Raise Dead that he can use on NPCS and which, like the reload rule, must last him the entire game. This may seem like a major deal but, IMO Hard Times + SCSII = very, very hard.

[*]I have used Shadow Keeper to put the Ring of Wizardry (1st Level Spell Version) back in the game.list]
5. Shadow Keeper can be used to (1) give Jaheira a scimitar, (2) change Minsc to a berserker, (3) change appearances as desired, and (4) fort nothing else at all.

6. The game is to be played on "Core Rules."

7. The only two allowed saves are Quick-Save and Auto-Save.

I changed No. 4 from allowing the PC to multiclass Specialist Mage/Cleric to putting the 1st level ring of wizardry back in the game.

This is a pain; with Hard Times, I can't even seem to sell bandit scalps or even a wand of lightning. I'm broke. I kinda like it but kinda dont!

I've reloaded twice so far; Silke killed me once and Zardral killed me once. I havent even been into the mines yet.

I'd suggest staying out of the mines until everyone in your party is level 5, or you will be dealing with Sleep spells cast by kobold shamans. Unless you don't have the "darkside kobold" component turned on from your SCS install.

What you're doing sounds quite hard. How about some character/party info and/or some screenies from your more interesting battles?

Funny that you mention the upgraded kobolds...its actually the only mod in SCS that I don't have turned on. Whew!

PC: Half-elven Cleric/Mage
Current NPCs: Jaheira, Khalid, Imoen, Garrick, Branwen

I'm waiting for Minsc until after I get out of the Neashkel Mines.

Everyone is about level two.

It is very difficult. I just scrapped with Greywolf and burned another reload. I have two left now.

Greywolf has no missile or magic attacks so can easily be killed with missile attacks while one character gives him the run-around - that tactic can be used with any enemies without distance attacks. In vanilla even those with distance attacks can be handled similarly as they focus on the nearest member of your party, but with SCS you need to be much more careful about placement to avoid your PC becoming a victim of a stray kobold arrow.

Yeah that's how we got him. The frustrating thing is he has two potions of extra healing, so it took about 45 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, SCSII is some great work, but I wonder if it goes too far. The kobold shaman with sequencers and contingencies and lord what is his armor class?

I feel your pain, Sam. The game is challenging enough for me without SCS enhancements. A lot of people enjoy the mental exercise of it, I think. They have to memorize every encounter and exactly what potions to drink and items to use. They have to remember the location in the game of every item, and they are willing to rob or commit murder to get what they want. My memory simply isn't that good, nor do I enjoy playing a character with no scruples. So SCS definitely isn't for everybody.

And on that note, I've tanked, having croaked a full twenty times between the kobold chieftan and Mulahey alone. Back to the ole drawing board.

Condolences, Sam. I was about right where you are now when I decided I didn't want to play SCS anymore, long ago when I tried it. How about trying a no or minimal reload challenge in a vanilla game?
