Are those the guys that were calling everyone entitled whiners a couple of weeks ago?

Perhaps they've realised that their bread and butter requires they NOT insult the vast bulk of their readership.  They don't write reviews (technically) for the developer, they are supposed to be reviewing games for the potential buying audience.  When they drop the ball SO badly on vacuous, shallow glowing reviews, their very livelihood becomes at stake.

I wish people would stop lumping every writer under one "they" when it comes to websites. They are all comprised of individual writers with different opinions

Ahem...if this was all legit it would have happened a LONG time ago.  Instead we got a PILE of glowing reviews without a single peep about the ending.  EVERY damn review from ALL the reviewers slapped 10 out of 10 stars! or 4 out of 5 stars! on the game, all stating how impressive an accomplishment the game was.  Ooops.  Then the actual people that PLAY the games got a taste of it and...total disconnect from reality.  Only AFTER the players tanked the ending ("whining") did any of these professional reviewers start taking a second look and THEN start giving honest reviews.

Too little, too late.  Sure, they're welcome to the reality parade, latecomers that they are, but only now have they learned a lesson:  a game isn't all about the graphics or shoot-em-up excitement.  Particularly when it is MORE than a mere shoot-em-up game.  They were shallow fools before, now they are trying to make up for it.

Don't try. They only want to be cool. Thats pathetic

You're so right the  structural biologist  wanted to be cool .

**** even when people agree with you people you **** on them

No, I am GLAD they are finally doing REAL reviews.  WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG!  Now AFTER the damage is already done!  Pre-orders, big 1st day purchases, etc, all based on Bioware propaganda and uniformly glowing reviews.  NOW the reviews come out that are true and honest and CLOSE looks at more than the shoot-shoot-shoot aspects of the game when it is mostly too late.  Thanks and all but where were they BEFORE?

So the consensus is that for most players, particularly those most personally invested in the whole story (rather than just gameplay mechanics), the ending renders the game, even ENTIRE series, no longer playable. A follow-on consensus appears to be that for those in the above group who CAN still push themselves to replay, the best option is to stop short of the ending...particularly around the Cerberus base point.

Nice job Bioware. Nice job.

That's about the speed of it, yeah.

Mass Effect is the first (and, as yet, only) RPG I've ever played. If this is to be par for the course, I'm done with them. I'm not going to jump into Bioware's next series and get invested in a new set of characters only to be forced to screw THEM over, too.

Do yourself a favour and play Deus Ex:Human Revolution. You can get it for like £10 now.

Get the DLC for it too.  Good DLC with a proper DE-style boss fight (the way they ALL should have been - EIDOS outsourced the boss fights in the main game and it shows.  It's almost like Bioware outsourced the ending to ME3 too because it is so disconnected from the entire rest of the game).

I'm currently in the 1st Detroit section of DE:HR...sneaking around the police station.  Good times.

It's ok OP. The ending was so horrible that I haven't had the desire to play through again either. The games premise or exploration and galactic unity is just defeated by the ending for me.

What I find odd about it all, is that Bioware have stated that the films would be based on the game. So why end it that way? You can't do three films and come up with the same bizarre ending like we got, because nobody will bother paying to watch that. We all know how bad it was, so they would have to change something if they're going to tell the same story.

So that would mean the game's ending would have to change, wouldn't it? This makes me think that they haven't planned this properly. If they go with that ending, their film is going to win a Razzie award.

It has taken me ages to finish ME3 after computer problems, but I finally have today. I had heard before I started playing about all of the outrage surrounding the ending but obviously, I didn't want to look and spoil it for myself. For all I knew, you guys were crazy, but I know you aren't after what I just saw an hour ago.

The ending is totally despicable, and like the OP, I can't see myself deriving the same enjoyment for the games that I had before knowing the ending. Everything they built in the first two games, an ending less than ten minutes destroyed it all.

How the **** did this happen? Bioware had to be nuts to think this would have been acceptable. It really defies comprehesion.

I finished the game a couple of days after it was released way ahead of the curve. Then I felt like Cassandra for a week till people started to catch up.

I did finish it today also.

Three major foibles of the ending are:

1. The childish logic of child-god (and bioware for interpretation the whole thing this way)

2. Lack of explaining, photo-text, cinematic etc. about (the near future of) your squadmates, Humanity, Organics and Synthetics ...

3. Lack of happy Ending (not my problem though)

Heh. I seem to recall somebody at Bioware tweeting that ME3 was "massively replayable". I think we all know that to be false. If you wish you can mine the twitter thread for that & other gems of misinformation that was spread prior to release.

I got there 3 days after pre-release.  My father and sister were going to start playing on the worldwide release day (the 16th of March).  I held my tongue to let them get into the game...didn't want to ruin the game for them.  After about a week I went ahead and simply warned them that the ending is not ANYTHING like they were expecting and that they wouldn't like it.

They are now among the ranks of those feeling anger and disgust with Bioware and how the game has been ruined.  :pinched:

Just wondering...has cutting off heads been tried yet?  How do we know it doesn't/wont work?

They should never have needed a kick in the first place. They were deluding themselves if they ever thought this would be accepted. This isn't simply about some people not liking the ending, it doesn't even make sense. We're having to resort to contemplating theories to try and appreciate the ending. That is total failure.

The same thing happened with the face import. How the **** did they ever let that out of QA testing?

I'm so angry they let this happen at all. What were they thinking?

I seem to recall somebody at BioWare commenting that we wouldn't be getting just an A, B, C ending, but ... well, we know how that turned out.

Seems like basically BioWare went for the opposite world: everything they said/promoted about the game, it actually delivered the opposite of.

Replayability? hahahaha
I stopped playing @ Maurader Shields and I don't plan on making my Shep experience the lazy, nihilistic endings as they are. He and I deserve more. So until new endings are released, I don't plan on completing ME3.

I'm just going to try and go back to ME1 and ME2, so I can keep my ME experience untarnished.

YES!  Someone stopped at Marauder!  Did you let him live?  Give him a friendly wave and then Alt+F4?

I wouldn't put too much faith in Drew in that regard.  He has stated that he thought the current ending was "fitting".  So he is either a company man who spouts company propaganda or he actually believes what he says.  The former is iffy but means he may simply be avoiding burning bridges but the latter...that would mean he isn't as good a writer as some would believe him to be.  No REAL author/writer would buy into the ending presented.  Just not possible.

I'm sure several mid level people will be fired over this. Personally I wish venereal disease and household mishaps on the higher ups who did all the actual decision making.
