My guess: They live on an island -- maybe uncharted, or at least uninhabited -- in a wild state.

Dragon Age 2 had the issue of having Hawke feel like he's simply a thug who's simply hired to do everybody's work and stumbles into every important conflict. Will future characters be pro-active, at the very least more so than Hawke?

yeah i think that would be cool if we got to join a group, and maybe got a specialization for it. 

grey wardens would be an option too. or templars.

Yeah that would defiantly add to the replayability which i dont feel was there for DA2.
