I'm bothered by the fact that all this could go away if they admitted they made a mistake. What an awful position we've put them in.
You need humility in order to be able to admit you were wrong. Bioware has shown quite demonstratively since Dragon Age 2 that humility is not something they believe in anymore.
They won't escape the fire if they don't.
They don't care. EA simply utilizes the ruthless calculus of business.
"60,000 fans leave? *shrug* We'll put some more ads in for the next game, hype it up a little more, make TWO awesome buttons, and we'll get 60,000 new
fans people who buy our games."
That's how they're looking at it. That these 60,000 fans are the ones who pre-order their $150 collectors' editions and spread good word of mouth is ignored in the equation, because it doesn't show up on a balance sheet.
Companies like EA would much rather that their customers AREN'T fans, but just people who buy their games and don't care any other way. That's much cheaper to deal with.
By this point, EA and Bioware are simply indistinguishable, so what holds true for EA holds true for Bioware. The only reason there's been SOME talk of "clarifying" the endings is because of all the bad media they're getting, and they want THAT to go away. That's simple PR 101.
