I have a new friend who shares a serious chronic illness with me, and he recently got ahold of BG2. We have been looking for something low energy we can play together, and this should fit the bill, IF we can get it to work right.
He has BG2 only, no ToB. I have BG2 discs if I have to use them, but I would rather use the BG2 complete from Gog that I bought last year, since it requires no disc to run. Can I use that and play multiplayer with my friend? What else do we need to know before we make our first attempt?
Thanks!
BG2 multiplayer

You both need the same install, ie SOA or TOB and same patch.
Whoever is hosting will need to set some port forward values in their router;
2300-2400 TCP
2300-2400 UDP
6073-6073 TCP
6073-6073 UDP
47624-47624 TCP
47624-47624 UDP
Best for the host to have keep the same IP address assigned by the router so port forwarding remains correct.
I found it easier to share my IP address after getting it from a lookup site. That way my friend can connect to me without any additional software. e.g. from the bottom of this linked page;
www.grc.com/x/ne.dll
Multiplayer only starts in windowed mode in modern versions of Windows, you can then switch to fullscreen using ALT/ENTER.
I also find it is better to have voice software running than try to type to each other in-game, and use Google chat as it runs on Linux (me) and Windows (friend).
Multiplayer is also a bit laggier than single player. You get used to it, hope it goes well for you.

So if I install a full ToB install with Gog, I can't just run SoA from the menu that provides a choice between the two?
It may be a week or more before we can try this due to really poor health on both our accounts. Your info will certainly help us in the right direction.
