on the london mission I had javik + kaiden, and my vanguard had the bonus power of reave.
Hardcore difficulty (yh i'm lame)

I have never found Brutes so easy....oh look 2 brutes. literally in 4 seconds they were down.

just start a newb character non import.

it took me 4 hours with a new character to get kaiden to unlock reave and barrier. wasnt a waste at all, i sometimes use barrier when i get pissed off that im using stasis 100% more then im using singualrity. so i replace stasis with barrier so i can start using sub-par-singularity again.

Kaidan, Liara and Javik are absurdly powerful with a Vanguard.

Being able to set up Reave, Warp and Dark Channel on ANY target, plus having Overload, Stasis/Singularity or Lift Grenade also? Detonate everything and if it won't detonate, shock/lock/blow it up.

The only saving grace is that the game is not very hard, even on Insanity so I can safely take whoever I want on any mission and still breeze through. Its tough looking at Garrus and thinking "Yeah, Tech Bursts are nice...but you're just not as good, sorry buddy". I take him with me anyway when it makes sense to have him. He's got awesome dialogue.

That's because of the broken-ness of biotics in the game.

At least Liara has very low health to sort of offset the absurdity, but it doesn't really work all the time.

Taking two of those three on any mission is probably the fast way to do it though.

I went pretty much my whole play through with Liara and Javik.

Insanely fun.

The only battle I had issues with was the one you're on earth and fighting off waves of brutes and banshees while waiting for EDI to figure out how to get missile lock for the missiles you're protecting for launch.

That was a tough fight.

Marauder Shields was tougher though.

But yeah after a while I was like, do I really need a weapon? I AM the weapon.

I wish we could solo the storyline. I doublepullfield+slamfield my way through most missions as a Vanguard.

Eh, she can't set up her own detonations on boss targets, and stasis-warp takes quite a bit.

Well she is probably the best for setting up detonations on boss targets thanks to Warp. Which sets up, increases Biotic Explosion damage/radius, and weakens their armor while increasing damage taken by the target. She also i think has the lowest potential cool down on her powers.

Though if ur saying she can't set up and detonate biotic explosion on armor on her own, well none of them can beside Javik theoretically. Which his AI isn't going to do on its own anyway. Plus while she can't do it on armor, she can set up and explode her own powers on everything else. Which is still something non of them besides Javik can do.
Its better to tag team explosions anyway. Im pretty sure squade member aren't intended to be setting up and exploding their own explosions.

The Vanguard is insanely OP. I swear that I'm finishing combat missions half as fast as I did as a Soldier or Adept. Yes, I COULD set up biotic combos if I wanted to but so far I haven't seen the need to since I'm basically a one man army. My squad mates seem to be there mostly for moral support lol

It's good fun though. I love it.

To be fair, a large part of this is the ability to instantly bypas having to walk around the maps and get angles on enemies - you can just Charge + Nova and you've crossed the distance and eliminated a cluster of enemies far quicker than any weapon short of the Cain could. 

Since we're talking about Vanguards here. Can anybody list what equipment and armor they'd recommend for this class?

For weapons I mostly use the Evisceratior and keep the Shuriken as a standby. Both have incendiary rounds. Both of these weapons allow me to have 200% recharge. My bonus power is energy drain since the Vanguard has no real way of dealing with shields. For armor I've been mixing it up and putting pieces that make my powers stronger/cool down faster but also some pieces that make my weapons stronger since I rely on my shotgun a lot.

Personally, I like to use the Blood Dragon armor - You can buy it when you first get to the citadel and don't have to worry about having the right mix of armor pieces.  It gives you bonus recharge, and bonus power damage, both important to the Vanguard, and bonus shields, which help both keep you alive, and in damage output from Nova.  Alternately, you could use the Inferno Armor, but I like the Shield bonus and I think the BD armor is better looking.  My weapon of choice is a scoped Paladin or Carnifex - for Mail Slotting and headshotting Banshees to avoid melee.  Spec Nova for Pierce, and that's your anti-shield option.  My bonus power was Warp ammo - specced for squad bonus, since I hardly ever fired my gun.  I suppose Dark Channel or something else would have been better, but I wanted a non-active power.  I might have used Barrier, had I not saved Ash instead of Kaidan.
