I made an "evil" character just so I could go through the game and get the reaver and blood mage items.  So when I got to the point that I thought I was going to get the option, no option became available.  Morrigan wouldn't even listen.  So I facepalmed and went.... don't tell me the only way to get the blood mage talent is to play a mage and get to this scene.... I hope not because I really hate playing mages and do not want to do it all over again.  So someone please tell me, how exactly do you get the blood mage spec?  Do you need to be a mage?  And if not, how do I do it?

Yes, you need to be a mage and you need to be the one to enter the Fade to rescue Conner. If you're that against playing mages, you could just play up to the Redcliffe part, abandon that character, and resume on the character you do want to play? Specs remain unlocked across all characters once you find them.

i know how you feel. unfortunately you need to be the mage and pick the fade option during the quest in redcliffe because pc's do not give you the option to choose to unlock the blood mage option (which in my opinion is not even the most evil one available).

i even managed to unlock the champion option instead. although it does have a "i fooled them all" kind of value it's really not what i wanted from a roleplaying point of view :S
