Ok, taking in account what has been said I understand that players who usually only give support might get less score and therefore would be excluded from credits, i'll try to think of something about it an when I do i'll post back. But seriously, something has to be done against AFKers/Leechers.

Silver matches seem riddled with leechers now. Yesterday I played four gold matches, one had one AFKer who went inactive halfway through the match - still finished it, so guess that worked out in his favor. Also played four silver matches, each of which had at least one leecher and most had people dropping out as well. Didn't finish a single one of them.

I've only ever seen one AFK'er on PC.

That's not the most annoying thing though. It's the folks who leave mid game, right after they die. :D

or they die because of dcd or lags and then "connection lost" ?

not sure how is it with joining into middle of the fight,  only 2 matches i played was already started, but many times im playing only in 3 ppl and no one joins

It's possible they had to go do something, I've done that, it's unavoidable sometimes. That damn real life doesn't give a flying "truck" you are playing a game. I try to come back quickly as possible to finish the match though.

Mine were on PC. I see them from time to time, though yesterday was the first time I'd seen one in Gold.

As of the last few days, i have seen an increase in the number of AFK'ers in silver games (PC). Could just be bad luck, but friends on Origin are reporting it too.

The problem with a kick function is that it is still dependant on all three players being willing to kick. You also face the problem of being unable to kick leechers if you have multiple leechers. Allowing a single player to kick people would just lead to a lot of griefing.

Auto afk systems have the problem that they can be circumvented. Yesterday evening I had the displeasure of being gouped with a vanguard player who took cover midmap and nova'd every 30 seconds or so.

A reputation system for Origin has the problem that people could griefe others.

In short, any system has it's flaws, but right now Bioware is choosing the greater of two evils (annoying the entire community) versus the occasional guy who gets accidentily flagged a leecher.

Something needs to be done though

Expect something to be done around Xmas 2013... Bioware haven't sorted out an official patch for players who are experiencing a black screen of death that stops them playing single player AND multiplayer. Over a month since this was reported as well. If it wasn't for a community hack there would be a LOT of unsatisfied customers (me being one of them).

Thing is, we get nerfs and buffs but where the hell are the bug fixes let alone the enhancements that are needed to fix the AFK problem?

I have probably run across 5 leechers on PC this week alone.  Annoying...

You guys are making a big deal out of this. Just don't give the global points/credits to anyone who isn't pressing buttons at least once every 5 seconds. Once he starts hitting buttons again, by all means continue providing.

Unless they get some scripts/macros going to infinitely move in circles or so, they'll be getting nothing.

The best thing to do to kill leechers is to threshold the rewards. If you don't score at least 20000XP in Bronze, you don't get anything. 40000 for Silver and 60000 for Gold.

I played several Bronze and Silver yesterday while watching TV, and I consistently scored more than that (even though I always came in last in my team), because I was still playing.

A leecher will never get that much XP if he leeches.

This.

I think a possible way to control this would be to have a pseudo vote-kick system, where after everyone else has voted to kick a certain person, they have 10-20 seconds to object to the vote-kick by pressing a certain key. If they're afk, they probably won't be able to respond. This vote-kick system's sole purpose would be to prevent leeching, not other forms of griefing.

Woah woah there. Bad idea.

Not even talking about players who arn't as good, how about players who are fore-going points to be more useful?

For one thing, i can think of at least one adept co-op playstyle that would make a person an MVP, while scoring low points - Adept spamming warp, while someone else throws.

AFK lecchers are the reason I dont spend consumables in public matches anymore. Just wasted when you have to quit after wave 1. :(

Dem lazy kids want their premium spectre packs.

Highlord Heian wrote...

So it seems that the new premium spectre packs are such a hit, that even the people who go out of their way to actively not play are farming for them!

So let me review my last few games.

Silver: one afk leecher.
Gold: one leecher. In gold.
Gold: TWO leechers. In gold.
Gold: Normal game.
Gold: One leecher.
Silver: One leecher
Silver, most recent: I was the only one playing.

Yes. I got into a lobby with three people who all decided to let everyone else do all the work. I did half a wave, noticed everyone still at the drop zone, and left.

Now, normally leechers are a problem. Normally, you'll get them once every few games, but I've never seen anyone so stupid as to try it in gold. But every game I've played, save for one, single game, has had inactive players plaguing it, ever since the premium spectre pack hit.

I've ended up leaving these games and re-matching over and over. There's no real way to eliminate these festering pustules from the game as it is now - it would require a lovely kick tool. I wouldn't even mind three-manning a game as long as it meant that I wasn't feeding some useless asswad's attempts to get something for nothing.

And yes, there are always the excuses: "Something could have come up" or "Maybe something happened". That's a good excuse for people rationalizing this, but it doesn't hold any water. It takes two button presses to exit a match, and something doesn't "just happen" at the start of a match before you move. That's an excuse from somebody who thinks doing this is okay. It is extremely rare that there's a legit reason to go away from the game in progress without saying something, and even more extremely rare for it to happen at the loading screen. No, I don't care what example you have where that "totally happened to me it wasn't my fault". Odds are, it's a lie to try and wriggle some leeway for leechers. So, save it.

Which means at least two things.

1) The one doing the warps will get a high score, because of the biotic explosions counting for him.
2) The one doing the throw is doing it wrong, because with two adepts the combo is warp 1 - throw 2 - warp 2 -throw 1. Synergies > sacrifices.

A lot of people were begging for some kind of premium spectre pack. I guess this is a case of 'be careful what you wish for.'

EA's Battlefield 3 has an autokick AFK feature after a few mins, which is still better than nothing..

sure, it can be circumvented but at least it's a start...

luckily, it's less of a problem on PC -- I wonder why consoles have more leechers? then again, consoles have 8x as many players as PC according to EA sales figures & are a younger demographic

I've never experienced this myself, but it's understandably to be pissed about it.

One thing that comes to mind is the Vanguard bug, though.

Just yesterday my Vanguard jumped out of the buildings and into the sky again and I could do nothing but set of my powers (ridiculously enough a got a few assists this way), but I decided to let the game play through, because the other three managed quite well.

Was this leeching? I don't think so... I did my part as best as I could for as long as it was possible.

Another time my char just stopped moving. I could still shoot (and a lot of good that did...) but I couldn't move, reload, drop out of the game or anything.

Again, if people are really leeching that is disgusting, but with stuff like those two bugs and the ghosting bug... not all of those people might be leechers

Perhaps anytime a player goes through a round without earning any points, they get one "leecher point" stored on their account, and when these leecher points get to a certain total (say, 15, maybe), they get automatically banned for a week.
