I would have loved a game like that...

But after the ending of ME3?

Nope...

Well, I wouldn't mind if I knew the ending didn't suck. Which means waiting a few weeks after release and watching a playthrough on Youtube or something. So, yeah I'd be interested eventually. But not right away.

Or I could play something like that if the ending of ME3 is changed. As it stands, I accept the current ending (though I do hate it) but as I interpreted the ending there is no reason to care about another character that lives past the point when Shepard dies. Which, as far as I am concerned, Shepard dies in all endings regardless of .5 second half-breathes.

A waaaaaay back game like the First Contact War or the Krogan Rebellions or the Rachni War might be worth considering. But humans invented medi-gel so there's that gameplay mechanic that would change. But I love me some Krogans, so I might buy a Krogan player character game just to run around and tackle/charge/headbutt people.

I would have loved a game set in the ME universe that was either a traditional party based RPG (like Dragon Age style) or something completely open world in format (like say, Skyrim). Either would have been a lot of fun, but I'm going to stand over here in the corner with the people who feel like there's no point bothering given what we know of how everything ends.

Just curious, would anyone else be interested in a ME game that takes plac either shortly before or during ME 1-3? By origins I mean similar to DA origins... you could play as a human, Asari, Turian, Krogan etc. Start in your own race specific plot that will merge with a central plot for all races?

I just think with ME sequels looking unlikely that this would be a fun way to make another game in the ME universe... as I like the idea of a PC who can be of any race.

The universe is so deep, I think being able to play as an asari or Turian in the ME universe we are familiar with would be awesome... I mean imagine taking part in events that were only glossed over in ME (taking part in the miracle of palaven or actually fighting the early stages of the ground war on earth)

Playing from a different perspective would be fun imo

Make no mistake, Bioware is on record as saying that the Shepard arc ended the way it did to LEAVE ROOM for more games in the Mass Effect universe.

That said, I would not be interested in a ME:O game right now simply because I know how the story ends. Hint: not well.

Rachni Wars might be a cool multiplayer thing. But again, we know in a few hundred years, civilization dies off, so why bother. The ending kind of destroys interest for most in the Mass Effect Universe now. I really doubt another title will get greenlit.

As soon as I decide whether or not Bioware deserves my money. They have the potential to make great games, but after ME3's ending and the somewhat similar disappointment in DA2.... I just don't want to be hurt by a good game gone wrong again.

Well more like a few thousand years.

Honestly, I didn't think that the "Origins" in Dragon Age: Origins was very good. It felt pointless since the only thing Origins change are the introduction level, and a little bit of dialogue. It seemed more like a gimmick or fanservice than anything else.

A human noble's story is nearly identical to a dalish elf's story aside from a few lines of dialogue and the first level.

First Level: "Oh boy! So this must be the human storyline! I wonder how it's different from the other storylines!"

Ostagar: "Huh? I guess human characters end up becoming this Grey Warden thing. I wonder what other characters do in their storylines?"

Dalish Elf Playthrough: "So the only real difference is the first level, and a little bit of dialogue. Seriously? Not very impressive."

Unless the Mass Effect game offered genuinely unique viewpoints in each origin then I wouldn't be interested. Well I'm not going to be interested regardless. I'm pretty much done with the series after that ending, and with Bioware in general.

If they fix the ending so sequels are actually possible? Hell yeah, I'd love to play a turian or asari (we never did see those turian females, after all; this should be rectified).
But I have no interest in a prequel game, honestly. As has been mentioned, the endings as they are render any prequel or ME3-era story feeling pointless and empty.

I found a lot wrong with this games story. The ending is bad, but there are problems with the rest of the game as well. Storytelling was suppose to be bioware's strong point, and they failed with this game.

This is a company that seemed to be able to do no wrong a ctouple of years ago. However, as someone mention above their track record as of late is nothing to right home about. They needed this game to succeed to prove that they were still the same company they were before. After this, I think people have realized that the company from before EA is long gone.

As cheesy as it sounds, I wouldn't mindplaying as an alien race that discovers Liara's "black box" and memorial of Shepard.

The problem I have with things like prequels or "origin" stories is they take place before the events where we know what happens. So just as any DLC that is released that takes place before the end of Mass Effect 3 will in all reality mean nothing, any stories told in the far past will also mean nothing. In effect the end of Mass Effect 3 is the ultimate form of self deprecation. They want us to buy content that aside from building our "legend" effectively adds no viable material to what happens in the end. It'd be like buying a Ferrari knowing that once 1,000 miles ticks over on the odometer it will burst into flames and be ruined. What’s the point?

I don't want to pay for another game that requires me to play multiplayer to access all singleplayer content.

Bioware and EA already destroyed any lucrative opportunities in the Mass Effect Universe by having poorly planned out endings that basically ruin everything that had been established and enjoyed

No. Not shelling out any more money to this lost cause of a franchise.

Nah seems like a cool idea but I can't picture playing with anyone but my Shephard.

This is why we can't have nice things (well one reason, the ending is another), the idea that you cannot play a game in the ME:U without being Shepard makes games narrow and smothered.

Why would you not want a game set in the ME universe that you can create your own character/race/role and play through an epic tale?

If the endings don't get fixed or at least acknowledged as a mistake, I won't be spending any more money on this franchise. I don't see the point in it.

I had always expected that ME4 or whatever it'd be called would be a multiplayer a la TOR, which in my hopeful imagination would be a war against whoever had created the Reapers. But now, assuming this ending doesn't get seriously fixed and the franchise magically survives disappointing the core fanbase then what OP says is probably certainly what we'll get.

Either something going on while Shepard is saving the world (probably in those two years he was being rebuilt since we don't have too many facts on what was going) or set during a previous time-period where key things were happening like First Contact War or Krogran Rebellions or Rachni. But for me all these options suck since at the end of the day I know it will all end with some crappy, rushed StarKid BS. =/
