have you tried lowering your hardware-acceleration for sound?
you can do it by opening dxdiag in the run menu. then click on the sound tab and move the slider to basic or no accel. or you can also do it by going to the control panel and clicking "sound and audio devies", down at the bottom in speaker settings, click on advanced. then click the performance tab in the window that appears. move the slider to basic or none.
Will Try Anything...Game completely freezes, no pattern...

I just upgraded my physx drivers, which I hadn't done before, and I thought that helped but then all the same problems eventually started to happen, bummer. Its so frustrating because none of the crashes have anything in common, except for being repetitive.
agreed, it is really irritating not being able to isolate the specific issue to the problems. I haven't had crashes or major slowdowns since I uninstalled AVG but I've only had two 3 hour sessions since.. I hope they resolve the issues with a patch soon. I had disabled the physx to see if that was the issue and it wasn't.. also previous poster mentioned turning down the sound acceleration.. that didn't do anything either.. I also don't think it's an issue with realtek sound drivers. I've already tried that and it made no difference.

This has been happening on variety of different systems with completely different hardware setups. We can safely rule out overheating, bad power supply and faulty hardware. I even updated my bios just for the sake of trying.
This has to be a software issue, I can't really think of something else. I've tried everything I can think of at this point.

I've got the exact same problem here.. and as you've all said, there seems to be no pattern at all!
If there's a software issue, let's hope they fix it with their next patch. But this is so very frustrating
EDIT: No knews at all?

Well... it's not abnormal... I've have had it in the past with other relative new games...
9 of the 10 cases it's the software on your own PC.
Mostly it's your antivirus who tends to be annoying (gosh, I hate Panda Antivirus and also an untweaked McAfee!), or otherwise look for one of the following:
- Anti-adware/spyware programs (Spybot S&D, Adaware, Spyware Doctor, etc...)
- Torrents and such stuff
- Windows processes
- Or if you haven't been carefull, any viruses who are downloading their own newest versions...
In general the most hardware problems ONLY exist because people fail to comprehend the necessary system requirements... I've done it a few times myself in the past...
(Of course, you've got gaming studios like EA, Ubisoft and any (former) Microsoft PC Gaming studio that manage to let the advised system in effect becoming the minimum requirements... those 3 are masters with that).

You think uninstalling McAfee will fix the problem then?

It's something you could try that doesn't take too much effort. try pctools antivirus. That is the current antivirus I'm using. It's day 3 since I uninstalled AVG antivirus and things are running smooth in DAO. I had a another 4 hour play session tonight and it ran well without issues. It probably didn't hurt that I upgraded my pc today either.
new pc specs:
AMD Athlon II X2 240 @ 2.8GHZ
2 gig DDR3 RAM
Radeon 3670 512mb

Hmm, well after installing this new patch I've had the longest non-interrupted play since I started with the game, 2.5 hours, maybe a little more, it was a blast!! I hope this continues to be the case!

Uninstalling Anti-Virus and applying the new patch didn't effect a thing. Still getting random freezes.

I"ve had a blast the last two days, no problems at all, ok, one freeze up, other than that, wow, what a fun game! I have been playing all morning, just having fun, now, the last five times I've started the game, all within the last hour, I've frozen up within minutes and been forced to hard boot. I've done nothing different, I don't understand...
