i sort of feel the same way about it really. ive been thinking about rerolling my human noble warrior to a rogue just so im not stuck with one of them again, but then im stuck with alistair to tank and he just gets on my nerves.

im thinking about just going human rogue, taking ranger and using the bear to tank bosses for me.
im thinking if i take morrigan and spec her for mainly crowd control spells its the only time ill ever really need a real tank anyways.

There is a nice mod which takes away the auto-level on NPCs.  You have to manually level NPCs when they join you.  Thus you can give Sten sword and shield skills or give Zev some lockpicking.  That allowed me to compose more interesting parties and still cover two basic skills.

I think the general idea is your party consists of 2 warriors, a rogue, and a mage. That's the more interesting party setup I've seen. Too many Mages makes things trivial, and having 0 of anything makes things a pain in the ass.

Hence, there's 4 Warriors (if you count Dog), 2 Rogues and 2 Mages in the base game...Shale is just another Warrior-type added in a DLC.

Yeah, that's a really helpful mod. Let's you have a tank without having to drag around Alistair, Shale or being a W&S Warrior yourself, or turn Zev into an Archer, Leliana into a DW Rogue, give Morrigan some heal spells etc.

Opens up a lot of possibilities.

She's French speaking British English, actually. So it's a strange mix. Dunno 'bout a lisp, though.

I genreally agree.  I am doing two concurrent play-throughs

2W-M-R    main character a W
W-2M-R    main character a M

The two mage party has my main character romancing Morrigan.  Unfortuantely, two mages makes fights too easy.  I am swapping Morrigan out for dog, and then just talking to her at camp.  From a role playing perspective that feels wrong.  Morrigan is too good for the adventures, but just right for the bed ?

By the way you can do the area without Leilana and switch her back in later in order to open the locked chests.

Though I do think, you might get more gold by stealingt than from opening locked chests

Sure
The way I see it, most parties are either going to have two mages or two warriors, and it's very unlikely that a player will want more than one rogue. Looking at the available NPCs, there is an excess of warriors, two mages, and two rogues. The mages, then, have the most limited selection compared with what most players are going to want in their party. And the personalitites on offer are more or less polar opposites, so a player wanting two mages is going to have difficulty keeping everyone happy.
