Massive failure.
You set out to stop the Reapers, Retake Earth and preserve Galactic Civilization. What you did:
-Stopped Reapers [Objective complete]
-Destroyed Mass Relays [Objective Failed: Preserve Galactic Civilization]
-Lost Thessia to the Reapers
-Destroyed a lot of Earth with collateral damage from Sword Fleet, from the Citadel hitting Earth, from the inevitable wars over Earth's resources by the fleets in Orbit, who are without the proper supplies to live indefinitely on their ships, and without the time to make it back to a colony, or to find another garden world. [Objective Failed: Retake Earth]
-Died
-Got your crew stranded on some random planet, ensuring the death of at least 2 of them, and likely one more once the Normandy's emergency power generators run out, and EDI is shut off. All living squad members are forced to live primitively on an unknown world.

You succeeded in stopping the Reapers. Everything else you failed in.

Beyond massive failure. Totally bitter with not even a pinch of sweetness.

Massive failure.

Thane, Legion and Mordins heroic deaths were bittersweet. Shepard dying but saving the galaxy as we actually cared about it, and the rest of the cast being fine would have been bittersweet.

This is just bleakmiserable, grimdark, that completely negates every single thing we'd accomplished, or been playing these games for all these years, and hundreds of hours of actual game time to achieve. It's just a slap in he face.

Abysmal Failure.

I don't even know why the developers called the endings 'bittersweet' in the first place. It was bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, bitter, *BITTER*, with maybe a little sprinkle of sweet if you managed to save EDI.

I don't think they understand what bittersweet means. It was a broken failure.

You want bittersweet. which is essentially tragic: Final Fantast X

Obviously, spoilers on the game's ending but for those who don't care, watch that and see how an actual bittersweet ending is. ME3 is nothing more than desolate and hopeless.

I do not see what is bitter with the destroy ending.

You kill the reapers, earth is saved and so are most of the fleet and also most of the populated planets so don’t understand where the bitter comes from.

Well Shepard dies, the Relay system is destroyed while a large part of the explored galaxy is in ruins or was being attacked ushering in a galactic dark age and your team-mates crash land on what seems an uncolonized world.
The bitter isn't all that hard to find, it's the sweet that's harder to see. If you think about the normandy not being reduced to a dustcloud while forcefully exiting FTL could be one (but it's also a massive plot hole) and I think defeating the Reapers is supposed to be one.
All in all the ending does seem to invoke more bitter than sweet.

Yes but we have freedom where before there was no chance for us to win, this fight is for survival not a joke war.

The mass relays are part of the reaper problem so they need to be destroyed so we have complete freedom to rebuild them in any way we like and in our control.

What happens to Normandy does not make sense so Bioware will have to clarify the plot holes.

If Shepard is alive or not i am not sure but i do want to get the 4000 EMS points so i can get the best ending as this may imply that the Geth survive also.

It was just flat out bad. This goes beyond happy/sad/bittersweet ext. Its simply just bad.

They still technically failed on the bittersweet note, but thats not why people are pissed.

Yeah, this is a nice example for bittersweet. I definitly prefer an happy ending, but I really liked the ending in FFX. In ME3, I see the bitter, but where is the sweet?

And from a storywriters perspective, the ending was a massive failure.

Massive Failure,

The disconnect between the ending and the rest of the entire series was so damn ham-handed that it severed my immersion with the series so uprutly that I felt nausea for the next 20 minutes. and before you think of it, NO, just because you GOT a reaction Bioware, doesn't make it a GOOD one.

yeah only my nausea has not gone away yet

its not about fun its more about hoping someone somewhere will say something anything that will make this PoS suddenly make some kind of sense and deliver to us the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction we expected to achieve when we beat the game but then did not get since you can't beat the game, you can only lose in 3 different colors

Massive Failure.

Bittersweet is being sccesful yet failing at the same time.

There is no interpretation of this ending that comes close to a literary standard of 'succesful'.

The better question is, if these threads bother you so much why do you keep posting in them?

Its existentialist and nihilistic garbage.

If you want a bittersweet ending you need a positive message to contrast with the negative. You need some hope out of the darkness. You need something to show it was worth it.

ME3's ending fails on all accounts.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're trolling.
It's a valid question that has to do with the topic at hand.
