Game is still too difficult on easy mode with 1.01a patch.

I'm not much of a gamer. I just like the story in this game. Any chance of making easy mode easier? I had to fight these assassins associated with leilana and I can't beat it. The mage lightning then fireballs me and I'm pretty much dead.

Just give it a few more goes with varying strategy. Have Morrigan use Winter's Grasp and hope for a freeze, then have Alistair run in and sheild bash, then Leliana use dirty fighting... or something like that. Just keep the guy stunned and frozen while you beat him down. Trial and error is your friend, don't be afraid to mix things up a bit to figure out what works.
I'm actually more interested in the story than the actual combat. I was hoping easy mode would let me fly through the combat so I could just experience the story.

Download patch 1.01b. It lowers the difficulty slightly more.
no, 1.01a and 1.01b only differ in the techinical compatibility in terms of the visual c runtime libraries... 1.01b is not any easier than 1.01a

Use whatever disabling or interrupting abilities you have to stop the hostile mage from casting spells, then close in rapidly and focus fire on him. If you have any means of disabling him or other enemies in the encounter completely, make liberal use of them (Cone of Cold, Paralyze, Sleep, Horror, Force Field, Crushing Prison, etc.). Try to remove as many enemy combatants as possible from the fight, single out the remaining ones and kill them one by one.

well i was playing on easy mode. I was hoping to avoid all that work.
easy mode says "if you want to play in real time this is the mode for you"....
But i guess not.

Couple of tips though...
1) Shut enemy casters down first, disabling or killing them, doesn't matter.
2) At least one mage should be concentrating on "crowd control", in otherwords stopping people from attacking your party. Normally this is more easily done taking control of them yourself. My personal favourites are Crushing Prison and Cone of Cold.
3) On PC (can't say about consoles) pause is your friend.

You do not need to fight the entire party of assassins, once the leader goes down the encounter is over.

You only have to beat the leader and that means you don't have to move. Focus all your party on missile fire on the leader and you only need to stop-delay-disable or terminate the merc and the dog.

yea still, this is not very fun. If i had more time i could be a better gamer but i don't have a lot of time.
Hopefully they'll make a "Very easy mode" soon.

If you are having a problem with that fight, it sounds like you have not really fought much in the game. It doesn't seem to me that this is the kind of game where you can do minimal fighting and still be able to progress through it. Obviously srategy is important, but perhaps you should try fighting around some more to get your levels up. What level is your character atm?
i don't think levels are a problem.
The mage is on a cliff so by the time I reach her i'm dead.
If i send in alistair who i think is a tank he dies fast as well.
I doubled checked and it says "Easy" mode.
Morrigan seems to do ok but she dies eventually.
Leilana misses a lot with her bow.

On a side note, on my first playthrough i found the game to be quite challenging in normal difficulty. Some fights were a total nightmare. Surprising that there are so many posts claiming the game is a piece of cake on nightmare.

everybody is so nice and that is great. But still Jensonagain just give up. go read a book or watch a movie. Games are not for you if you don't want to play them. Sorry u need to set up tactics for your party members just a bit and you should be fine. But u don't want to do that again go read a book it will provide a much better story than DA:O.
Sorry for being an ass but this is how i see things.

I found out that a simple change of tactics turns the battle on your favor. Just a single spell sometimes made a hard fight easy. Just try to experiment a bit.

Well my main character is a warrior. I have the best armor I could possibly get. But I still die real fast.

Well easy mode said I wouldn't have to do that, and that I could play in real time. I'm not very fond of pausing all the time.
