Aesthetic and other suggestions for the new BioWare social networking website, plus some questions. I'm using Firefox 2.0.

What happened to the avatars? Some of them (not the character creator ones) now look really weird next to posts (I changed mine, so you can't see it on this one). Also, I can bribe with cookies.

---------------------

What is the little fire thing on some thread icons for?

Does the yellow icon next to a topic mean it has a new post? Those seem to come and go.

---------------------

When copying and pasting text (from Notepad, in this instance) into either the 'quick reply' field or the normal reply field of a thread, it doubles the paragraph spacing (the spacing between lines, rather than only paragraphs).

---------------------

When typing a post in the 'quick reply' field, however, it puts an extra space in-between paragraphs. This is then changed back to a single space by going into the 'edit' option on the post afterwards (and just re-saving it).

---------------------

Suggestion: Removing the extra space between a quote and the reply, once posted (in the normal reply box). Putting a blank line in the reply box after the quote appears to make it a double space in the post.

---------------------

'You do not meet the requirements to post in this forum.' At the top of the website help FAQ thread. It's an odd message, because a message isn't really needed, and it's for the thread, not the forum.

---------------------

The forum search:

'Improve your search results with operators like «+ for AND» and «- for NOT». Use « * » as wildcard. You can parentheses group words into subexpressions or use quotes to do exact searches.'

This reads a bit confusingly. A suggested change is something like this:

'Improve your search results with operators like + for AND and - for NOT. Use * as a wildcard. You can parenthesise group words into subexpressions or use quotes to do exact searches.'

A few other suggestions: After finishing the search, to make it a box that can just be closed, rather than needing to go back to the previous page (if the user doesn't select a search result). Also, if I click in the search field and then outside of the search field, it opens the search box, rather than just dismissing the search. And lastly, it's helpful where it says 'search' in the search field on the home page, but it doesn't show this on the forum page.

Something to note: Does a search use either type of quotation marks?

---------------------

Subscribing to a topic moves the user to the last page in the thread.

---------------------

After editing a post, it goes back to the top of the first page in the thread, rather than where the post was (which is what it does when making a new post).

---------------------

Clicking on the comments tab in a user's profile moves it to the top of the page, unlike the other tabs.

---------------------

This page, as an example, went really out of whack due to someone posting a long string without a space (the text goes over past the usual confines of the page).

---------------------

The 'recent activity' section on the home page is different depending on whether the user is logged in or not. I'm not sure if it's meant to do that.

---------------------

'Create your new message with the form below.
You can specify multiple recipients (up to 5) - you can either select a friend from the autosuggestion area or simply type a user's name and press Enter.'

There is a box next to usernames where we can delete messages. Perhaps we could also use this to select who to send them to. This would especially help if the user is looking for people to send it to or they just can't spell someone's username (the autosuggestion part doesn't always kick in at a helpful time).

---------------------

Suggestion: Adding descriptions underneath the forum names for the points area and the off-topic area.

---------------------

The biography seems to have a character limit in it, and it looks a lot shorter than the other website.

Suggestion: If the limit on that is going to stay, then introducing a new tab for general other stuff.

---------------------

When posting a website address, it automatically links but only up to the 'html' or 'php' part. Anything after that remains unlinked. This is occurring at least in messages (not sure about posts). Except in links in messages, where it seems to link okay but doesn't use the display name.

---------------------

Suggestion: Automatically creating hyperlinks from URLs in posts.

---------------------

Suggestion: Changing the date format if we use the day/month/year format. This doesn't apply to threads, the way it does on the other website, but I thought I'd mention it anyway as now the join dates are backwards.

---------------------

Refreshing the page, or going back and then forward again doesn't lose what's in the 'quick reply' box, but subscribing to the thread does.

---------------------

Suggestion: Showing the last comment or two on profiles, where there are more than three, rather than showing the first three only.

---------------------

Long topic titles are cut off in the actual thread.

---------------------

Sometimes, when quoting a reply in a post, the quote seems to hit a wall on the right-hand side and moves down a line early.

Actually, this has also been happening with this post, after copying the text over and saving the post. It's also happened on unrelated bits of text (after saving the initial post) when going back into the post to edit something else.

---------------------

Image threads: Pretty much any thread with images in the posts gets messed up. The images don't stay within the post box, but instead go over into the next post, which also makes it difficult (or impossible) sometimes to read what is actually in the next post, plus an image going over some lines and text makes the image itself difficult to see properly, as well.

This might just be some sort of loading issue, as I recall one particular thread didn't have any problems on at least one page once.

---------------------

Suggestion: In a group invitation, it would be good to see who sent the invitation.

---------------------

Request: To please be able to turn off the email notifications for someone commenting on something in the recent activity feed. Perhaps put a notification somewhere else instead. Or use both and have an option on which to use.

---------------------

Commenting on something in the recent activity feed, such as someone's 'status update', seems to disable being able to then expand other comments in other status updates. So after leaving a comment somewhere, 'view all comments' doesn't expand the comments until after refreshing the page.

---------------------

From the FAQ:

'How do I access my Dragon Age characters online'. I'm not sure but I think something on the site changed and may need to be reflected in the FAQ (this is the same as with 'Is there a way to delete uploaded characters' in the 'Dragon Age player data' section).

---------------------

Recent activity privacy options: Some options have a full stop after them, others don't.

---------------------

The line underneath 'report this post' and 'report this topic' extends further than the lines underneath the two next to it.

Similarly, in a profile, the line underneath the groups a person has joined extends over too far.

Same thing on the 'contact us' page.

And now for some bits and pieces from the FAQ:

In the FAQ thread the message is actually is actually justified because the thread is locked. Only thing that it should say "thread" instead of "forum" - i guess they're using the same string as in case of the similar forum message.

The feed seems to contain less information when the user is not logged in. I guess that makes sense since we probably don't want to show the achievements' and spoiler-forum post notifications to everyone.

Not being a frequent visitor of image threads myself, but isn't it possible that the problem is caused by 'overflowing' images? I mean the ones which are wider than the field the posts are supposed to be in.
Should this be the case, it could be remedied by auto-converting the [img] tag to [imgw] upon saving the post. Or simply we should encourage the users to use [imgw] by default but it's unlikely they'd comply. :)
Is [imgw] even supported by this software?

A message of 'this thread is locked' or just showing the 'locked' icon would suffice though. Even saying 'thread' instead of 'forum' would be confusing because it would lead to the question of 'why?'.

I think the post is supposed to go down to the bottom of the image the same way it does for text, or at least that would make sense. And sometimes it does that. It might be my browser, but I'm pretty sure it's not working in this one the way it was intended to.
