The obvious candidate is BSG, but I think that ending--bad though it was--at least got some things right. 1) Most importantly, It focused on the characters--we got to see everyone make it to earth got to spend the basically the entire last hour with them. No drroping them on a planet and then cutting to black. 2) Hera (the kid we where told was so important for the whole series) turned out to be the most recent genetic ancestor to every living human, which is kinda important, I guess. and 3) The whole goal of the series--find earth--was sorta accomplished.

That's not to defend it, but I think it's pretty clearly superior to ME3's endings on these counts.

I would say no. Sure, some endings may be "technically" worse, but I can think of no other endings that cased as much damage to a franchise as the ending to Mass Effect 3.

Worse? Probably.

More dissapointing? I don't think so.

Yeah..in Killer Clowns From Outer Space, the cop using his badge to kill the giant alien clown by stabbing it in the nose was lame.

I totally agree with you stcalvin13, especially with your second post. BSG would definitely be the closest but it is still way Way WAY better then ME3.
Most SF shows and movies I know actually have pretty decent endings. For me, ME3 is definitely the worst to date.

I count ruiningness towards badness.  Manos: hands of fate had a terrible ending, but it was one of the worst movies ever made, so it doesn't count--or at least it has that against it.

At least the BSG ending made sense and wasn't full of plot holes and logic fail.

Really? Comparing Killer Clowns from Outer Space to Mass Effect is like compairing some Manischewitz to a Dom Perignon that happens to have a worm/roach in the bottom of the bottle.

Lol sure, but which would you rather drink in the end?

Pass me the Manischewitz please.

Yeah but still a whole lot less lame than ME3's ending though.

The series finale of Stargate was definitly worse.
Just remember how O'Neill sacrifices himself to destroy all the Stargates in the Galaxy, so he could kill all Goa'uld. The Stargates blew up and killed millions of people in the whole Milky Way. This episode was really horrible.
Oh wait. THAT was the bad dream.

The Matrix Trilogy and Star Wars (ending with the prequels) come to mind... but even those don't give me the disappointment that ME3 does.

I'd take Torgo over Starbaby anyday.

I can't think of a worse ending for a serious property in any genre or medium, period. Sure some joke or super low budget crap might have a dumber ending, but that hardly counts.

Edit: Now that I think about it the third Matrix comes close, that's about it.

And it still is somehow better than the ending to Mass Effect 3.

And those at least followed the logic of what came before.

You don't get to count the prequels as endings . . . that's  . . . cheating.

There are those game that never end, which is what the IT theorists want this game to be, I guess. Given how important the crucible is, I can only imagine that this is their dream ending:

Shepard wakes up from his dream, but the crucible isn't activated yet! So he opens the citadel arms, activates the crucible and then chooses destroy because it allows Shepard to wake up from his dream, but the crucible isn't activated yet! So he opens the citadel arms, activates the crucible and then chooses destroy because it allows Shepard to wake up from his dream, but the crucible isn't activated yet! So he opens the citadel arms, activates the crucible and then chooses destroy because it allows Shepard to wake up from his dream...

The Matrix doesn't quite count, as both the last movies suffered from a very consistant stake of lackluster. It's not like Revolutions was going great until the last 5 minutes.
