Not that I think this thread serves any purpose at all, but the motives of the attacker aren't knowable to the court.  Why I shot somebody is forever a mystery to you.

That's what's wrong with making it a different crime bacsed on my motives.  You can't know my motives.

If this thread had any purpose, it was abandoned shortly within it's life.

As for motive, part of the prosecution is to determine the intent of the crime. While it's difficult to prove the motives behind an individual's actions, the prosecution will present evidence to support the possible motives of the perpetrator. Sure, you can't know if someone who beat up that Jewish person is Anti-Semetic, but if they run a website that's devoted to slander against Jewish individuals, there's a high chance that the crime they committed may have been motivated by hatred for a certain group.

I'm 29, my 5 year-old daughter watches me play this game.
I have absolutely no problem with her seeing the violence, in fact i see it as a positive thing for her to understand.
The world is violent and contains horrors worse than any she could see depicted in a video game, seeing it in a mild animated form now will only help her deal with it better should she ever encounter such things in reality.
Also man's problems throughout history have nearly always been solved conclusively with violence such as depicted in the game, having an understanding of such things makes her stronger.
However
Gay sex is not something i want her seeing, it's a non-productive "consumer" activity with no relevant application to a situation in her later life other than a basic way of understanding others motivations or seeking some transitory pleasure of her own.
The straight sex scenes if she were to see any and the inevitable questions she'd ask would lead to a useful discussion for her with me and her mother on reproduction, human evolution and a huge amount of related subjects geographical, medical, anthropological etc.

Translation:
I'm trying to sound open-minded and educated, but gay is bad, m'kay?  I'ma go ahead and pretend it doesn't exist and avoid educating my children about this particular fact of life.

News:  I may live in one of the more open-minded parts of the country, but I know some gay people...some of them are good friends...and I can tell you that most of them are normal folks just like all of us "normal" straight people.  You can close your eyes and try to pretend they don't exist, but they'll still be there when you open them.  Sorry.

Perhaps we could sell some sort of home insemination kits so we don't have to engage in those nasty acts of sexual interaction at all anymore.  Gives us more time for more wholesome and natural activities...like decapitating people.

Why do people get so up in arms about the redundancy of hate crime laws? Its seems like a dumb thing to get mad over yet I hear this argument repeated many times? I'm just curious why anyone gives a damn about these redundant laws.

It seems like people want to resent the groups that benefit from these laws more than get upset at the politicians/lawyers who made these laws.

Essentially, hate murder is worst than first degree murder since the intent implies that the perpetrator would continue their crime.

So do they try to punish me for why I MIGHT have committed the crime, but they also are also punishing me for crimes that MIGHT commit in the future?  I can't be the only person who objects to be punished for my thoughts (or perceived thoughts, it doesn't really matter what I was thinking as long as the jury thinks I might be racist, sexist, etc.) or for acts I haven't committed?

It just doesn't make any sense at all: "You killed that guy because of his race, 50 years! You killed that guy because he called your momma fat, that's only 30 years".

To list specific groups of people that it is MORE of a crime to harm implies that it is LESS of a crime to harm people who are not on that list... it's that second part the bothers me.  Further more, since it is impossible to determine what a person was thinking when they committed a crime, it should also be impossible to convict somebody based on their thoughts.  Even if a guy shouts out racial slurs while committing the crime in question, you cannot assume that is the REASON he committed the crime in the first place, nor that it was a motivating factor at all.

"The Matthew Sheppard Incident" is a good example.  A homosexual man was killed, and people assumed it was because he was gay.  Evidence suggests that the attack was likely triggered by a drug deal gone bad, not by the guys sexual orientation.  Was he killed for being gay? Maybe.  The world will never know, but the courts still pretend to.

As with all romances, any gay options are purely optional. To the poster who wanted to avoid having his child shown such a thing, my suggestion would be to not pursue the gay romance. Seems pretty simple.

As for the rest of this thread, it's not really about the game anymore, is it? As is customary for this topic, it's gotten a bit out of hand -- I suggest general discussions about homosexuality be taken elsewhere. Thanks!
