Despite being made by different teams, the endings to Dragon Age II and Mass Effect 3 suffering the same problem. Bioware was so in love with its "artistic vision" that they insisted all players experience the same kind of ending. This is cool if you're into a linear narrative, but Bioware claims to be all about the "interactive storytelling". That's largely an illusion.

Unless the "clarification" DLC is brilliant, I don't plan on buying Dragon Age III. (There are other RPG developers out there, especially lots of great independent studios that need my support more.)

The DA2 endings make sense, and weren't filled with plot holes.Really, the whole culmination of the Mage/Templar battle for Kirkwall was a logical progression for the game, and there were no new characters suddenly introduced for the sake of an artsy fartsy ending. Granted, they DID make it far too open ended - but it seemed like that was in anticipation of making a post-game expansion, ala Awakening. Then, later on, we find out they WERE planning to do the expansion, but decided not to, to pursue "other opportunities for the franchise." And hopefully that wasn't code for "Make crappy anime movies".

Dragon Age 2 was lackluster, but by itself, I wouldn't be compelled to avoid DA3.
Even without DA2, however (let's just say that is was DA:O only so far), I would not feel comfortable buying DA3 until months after release with rave reviews thanks to ME3.
I think ME3 has hurt initial DA3 sales. Adding DA2, I predict a dismal release (but I'm no market analyst).
Sad because ME3 isn't a bad game. The ending just overshadows it so much that I lose focus on the rest.
Will you be an early adopter to DA3?
Would you go as far as getting pre-order and/or collector editions?
I think not, but not because of ME3. If I had any hope DA3 would be of anything remotely resembling ME3 quality (ending aside) I would certainly get it. But the DA series is kind of bland IMO. The world is so much rehashed fantasy tropes and the stories clunkily told. DA2 had some promising ideas but was weighed down by it's uninspiring combat and the endless repition of locations. The need to make a quantum leap to get me to come back to that franchise.

But ultimately it'll depend on how well done the new extended ending is for ME3.
Artistic vision is one thing, but crappy artistic vision should not be defended, but corrected after admitting its shortcoming.
I'm not all too thrilled with how they're handling ME3 right now, and DA3 is being completely redone so it won't be coming out anytime soon.
Collector's edition sucked last time with DA2, so unless they offer a better package overall I won't be adopting early blindly like before or any of their promotion events for crappy belts and rings.
