I just recently got all of my basic weapons upgraded to their X versions through buying a ton of Recruit Packs. Now logic would tell me I should do the same thing with Veteran Packs, but I've seen some people around here say it's better to skip straight to buying Spectre packs instead. Is it smarter to skip the Veteran packs completely?

I went all veteran until I exhausted the silvers, then all Spectre; and it's going quite good, it seems it reduced the drop of silver char cards in favour of more gold chances.

Buy specs and premium specs.
Having all the lower weapons X does nothing item pool wise but it is good you have them X for the harder difficulties.

Without,  well I'm not sure if it's cheating, really, but, playing a legit game, I'll say, I would go for Veterans until you get at least a few of the silver chars and weapons up in the ranks, what ones you want/like anyway. It's quicker and less costly. You play a simple silver game, get a veteran, done, etc. Now that these Premium Spectre packs are here, though, I'd buy at least a few of them.

Or just play gold normally with a good group and clear it in less time while actually having fun?
The insanity of variety I know.

Well cheating would be 45k creds every 3mins.
Farming would be 20-30mins sitting in a room while your brain melts.
Playing would be forming a team and making a strategy based on that teams loadout and style preference either in the lobby or in game with communication.

Personally, on day 1, I went for Spectre Packs until I got really useful weapons like the Carnifex I and Geth Plasma Shotgun I, then went back to Recruit then Veteran to max all my weapons. My Mantis X is stronger, lighter, and has more ammo than my Widow I, and on pretty much everything else I use the Carnifex.

Buy veteran packs until all of your silver guns are unlocked rank X. Do not keep buying veteran packs to get your silver gun mods though, because some of the mods require spectre packs instead. It took me about two weeks to max my silver guns and I've just started buying spectre packs, so the premium packs are perfect timing for me right now. Good luck!

I'd skip the Veteran packs. Spectre packs already hand out a ton of Uncommon items anyways, only slightly less than 1 per pack. In general uncommon weapons are the worst of the bunch anyways, since they're usually outclassed by either common X or rare I.

So is there a completely different pool of weapon unlocks for each tier? I was under the impression that if you didn't have the basic weapons maxed, you could get screwed by spending creds on a Veteran or Spectre pack and getting a basic weapon card.

If that's not the case then it shouldn't matter what order you buy packs in

I noticed that too, it's weird but correct, you're never gonna get certain silver mods in Veteran and I wonder why.

SeajayX, I also would love a team of mature, reasonable players. I have lost quite a few creds and points to kids who are hosting and leave early. It is infuriating....
I work and go to school, so I play at slightly odd times, fyi...(midnight- 4 a.m.)

I gave up on trying to max all my silver weapons with vet packs--I just kept getting the same character cards over and over again. So now I save up the credits I get from silver matches and buy spectre packs.

This is exactly true. The first week of the game I was buying spectre packs and getting things like Avenger IV and Mantis III, etc. I quickly switched to recruit packs, and have just finished off veteran packs.

I admit that I have bought around twenty spectre packs in addition, usually after gold runs, and have a black widow III to show for it. Veteran packs have the added bonus of giving you lots of equipment over time, so I wouldn't skip them.

Some of the silver weapons are quite good at X. The Vindicator, the Mattock and the Phalanx have all been reliable, go-to weapons for me. I recommend taking some time to max out your veteran packs before moving to Spectre packs.
