Yeah, my opinion of him changed.
I haven't watched any Jersey Shore (though I have heard it around the interwebs) to know why people were saying he looking like a meathead or something. However, I was hesitant about the character because I questioned why add a new character when most of the crews are returners and it's the end of the trilogy?

But I enjoyed his character and used him in couple of missions. He is a pretty good tank.

no, hes just a pixelated thing that is wasting a crew member that could have been much better.

It's always risky introducing a new character in the last installment of a trilogy. But hes a cool guy. Not someone that I would really sit down and have a whisky with but, hes alright! Dont judge too much!!

They seemed to be trying to hard to make him the 'cool, poker playing, down with the grunts guy' I can seriously picture this guy with a bright colored polo shirt with the collar popped and some 'cool' sunglasses. In addition to the 'bro-ness' they just seemed to try and force him in there where he didnt really fit. Yeah, I severely dislike him still, so to whoever said its impossible to not like. No, no its not impossible lol

He's like a big Meatball, hardly fitting his armor. don't now which 80's B-Action movie Bioware had seen when they created him, but he differs alot from the US Soldiers I've seen during my service.
Also his poor spanish (in the german version) sucks alot, therefor I prefer Ashley with much more guts and background (in ME1, in ME3, it seemed to me they didn't give her many lines)

He's the best human squadmate in the game, as far as I can tell. But...that's not saying much.

I like making fun of him.

Well the only other choice for human squadmate (other than Shepard him/herself) is the Virmire Survivor.

Both Kaidan Alenko and Ashley Williams annoyed me on Mars! Look if you don't trust me, and believe that I haven't cut my ties with Cerberus then get off my team! Yes! Get the hell of my team! I'm sure Admiral Hacket has a nice placement with soldiers you trust. Heck you can even comand your own team.

James Vega had two abilities that I loved. Incendiary Ammo (my favourite ammo power) and CARNAGE!!!!! I don't care about his grenade and his fortification. But CARNAGE! He is also an amusing person to talk to.

James Vega and Garrus Vakarian are the only people on the Normandy who know the meaning of banter. Shepard is okay at this.

I love haring Garrus teasing Tali Zorah and Liara T'Soni whilst Bromancing Shepard.
I love James teasing Garrus, trying to make conversation with Javik and asking assessments during missions.

Also James desperately trying to go one up on Garrus and failing miserably was funny.

James is another bro on the Normandy. Let's face it, not many people have the guts to call Shepard "Loco" or "Lola" and get away with it. :o

I didn't like him at all. He seems like a reject from Gears of War and unlike every single other squad member from all 3 games he just appears out of nowhere with no introduction to his ccharacter and as Pyrceval78 said he seems to be made out to be the gung ho cool guy that is just one of the guys. Personally he didn't change my game at all. The story would have had no differences of he wasn't there. I hardly used him after Mars.

after mars, he was on the bench 24/7 and I only came to him to get my bonus powers off his hands.

I'd prefer Zaeed, who is a much more interesting character and also shares James' motif of a soldier over his half assed "loco" personality any time. Rolled Kaidan+Liara all the time the most useful squaddies are also the most loyal and most related to you unlike the completely parachuting and unrelated generic soldier that James is.

After playing the game, has your opinion of him changed at all? Mine hasn't. I thought he'd be cool before and was a little put off by the "Jersey Effect"/"Mass Shore" comments. He's a legitimately good character. He's funny at times. And come on, carnage? I love that power. As I said he's funny, he has a interesting and dare I say compelling back story, and his ambient banter with Garrus and Javik make me laugh every time.

Hoooooooh, man....Those discussions are SO great :D

I pretty much like the guy...

I was sceptic at first, him being all Gears of War, but he had me sold at suicide run with Kodiak Shuttle - when my Shepard told him that it was reckless I was like "NO, Shepard, IT WAS AWESOME!" I also liked how I could tell him to stay proffesional - no nicknames - and he would never call me Loco again.

He is so much to talk to as FemShep - some might find flitring forced, I think it is handled really well, with him being the Cuddly Bear. With Carnage.

Open-minded about him when starting the game, and grew to dislike him. As someone else said, he's an insubordinate ass and (to me) doesn't feel like he's really part of the plot.

It would have been better to have an ME2 squadmate added, but BioWare painted themselves into a corner with the Suicide Mission. Garrus and Tali could already be dead in some people's games, which can limit the number of squadmates to 4 (without DLC), and it takes awhile to get VS. They didn't really have much choice about having to add someone new, but I think they could've picked a better archetype than the stereotypical musclehead soldier. Especially since those that saved Ashley on Virmire will already have a soldier squadmate.

He's funny and his interactions with FemShep in particular are gratifying. I have to admit I kinda liked being called Lola ;). A shame that he wasn't a romance option.

He's alright. I just didn't like the whole "Loco" or "Lola" thing which is something that can be avoided by telling him to call you commander.. Other than that, he was fine. Definitely better than Ashely who I found annoying all the way through.

Thank God they made him a down to Earth simple guy, and not a stereotypical meathead.

He's all right. The only thing what bothers me that we don't know him at the start (I know there is a short comic, but screw that, don't spread the whole story onto other medium) but Shepard does.

I was neutral before the game. I was neutral after my first run.

Now that I'm going back and listening to him, I want to f*cking strangle him. That scene where he just leers at Shepard is especially impressive.

I have to admit, he's likeable. And suffers from the same disease as Varric in DA2: he's the most awesome new character that is not an LI for no good reason.

Pissed me right the hell off. Even if you tell him to call Shepard "Commander," you still have to deal with his bumbling flirtation.

And his line after Thessia. Ye gods.

Nope he's still insulting, insubordination, unprofessional soldier. I think what irks me the most about him is his hulking appearance/lack of uniform and the name calling. I find it funny that once we make it to Earth he finds a uniform in his size thats the only time I can talk to him w/o rolling my eyes. Next to him Chobot is next on the annoying list I can't stand talking to her because her outfit is atrocious.

Amen to all of that, bro!... sis?
