James Vega. You've played the game. Has your view of him changed?

That pretty much set the tone between them. A little banter back and forth that leads to nothing was harmless.

To you, maybe. It pisses me off. It may start off as a failure of the auto-dialogue system (which was a terrible addition to begin with), but after you decline his stupid nicknaming, it should stop. If you like it, good for you. But every time something idiotic like that comes out of his mouth, I want to tell him to GTFO.

A litmus test: if Vega hit on BroShep in the same fashion, how do you think most players would react?

Not a good example because that opens up another can of worms that I don't want to touch.

Hes a funny man in a serious universe.

Sure, most may not appreciate the contrast, but some comedic relief wont hurt.  He's also insanely useful, no doubt about that.  There hasnt been a damage sponge anti armor character in Mass Effect before him.

James is the pure firepower/damage sponge squadmate
Garrus is a firepower/tech mix
Liara is a biotic support role
Tali is a tech support role
Javik is a firepower/biotic mix.
Ashley is the marksman/precision sniper

His post mission dialogue with Cortez is pretty humorous too.
Their contrast is plain hilarious.  James is the tuff guy extraverted space marine, while Cortez is the emotionally shaken, yet focused when he needs to be pilot.

Joker already fit the part of comic relief in the serious universe just fine, thank you.

I liked him. I thought he seemed like a cool character before we knew much about him and the game confirmed it. I kinda wish he was a LI option though.

Yeah me too...  There aren't a lot of Human LI to picked from if you are femshep.   Either Jacob... who is a little standoffish and boring or Kaiden who seems a little to whiny for my taste.

I was really skeptical when they unveiled his character, but once I read the CE art book while the game was installing, it clicked in my head what they were going for ("Oh! Blue-collar grunt, got it"). Coming into the game with that perspective made him a very likeable character for me, and I used him alongside of Garrus until I got Tali (and even then, I alternated between Tali/James and Tali/Garrus, having spent most of the prior games with a team of Tali/Garrus).

We still dont have a pure damage tank squadmate though.

You could play sentinel, but the nerfed power armor is bleh.

No, that is a perfect example. Homosexual or heterosexual, unwanted flirtation is unwanted flirtation. If BroShep was forced to interact with Vega in the manner that FemShep is, and Vega were constantly making remarks about BroShep's body, you best believe BSN would be b*tching to high heaven.

There are already people crying at Cortez's mere inclusion.

Then they could have given us back wrex or grunt, instead of this ****.  However, my vanguard shep with ash/ tali or ash/ garrus does just fine on the damage front.

I didn't think I would like him at first, but then as soon as I saw the trailer with Freddie Prinze Jr. and how much he obviously enjoyed voicing the character, I changed my mind. When I actually played ME3 I thought he was a good character, although I didn't often take him in my party because Garrus, Tali and EDI were more familiar, and Javik was more intriguing.

Besides being slightly uncomfortable, I would've been laughing for hours if he did that.

I see where you're coming from but there are a variety of characters in the game and you're not really forced to interact with any of them. If your Fem Shep has such a problem with him, wouldn't she just have nothing to do with him. However, from their interaction (speaking from a Paragon Fem Shep), she seems to like it and doesn't mind throwing in her own digs.

And I hate being called 'Lola' as FemShep. I wish I could throw him out of an airlock when he said that.

Pissed me right the hell off. Even if you tell him to call Shepard "Commander," you still have to deal with his bumbling flirtation.

And his line after Thessia. Ye gods.

Not as bad as Fem shep throwing herself on every male character except Thane, which actually had a build up. Even with Garrus, she basically said "you want to test my flexibiity and your reach" (not an exact quote). Very classy Fem Shep

The Garrus thing is a bad example since you actually have to initiate that. Jacob is a different, horrible story however. As soon as Jennifer Hale opens her mouth she sounds like she's trying to make a pass at him regardless of if you actually wanted FemShep to do that or not.

I might feel differently if I got the Arrival DLC.

As it is, he's boring, stupid, bland and pointless. Worst character in the entire series aside from Ashley.

No you wouldn't since that adds no context whatsoever to his character since it's irrelevant.

Except I want to like the guy. Truly, I do. I don't mind that he's secretly a wild gorilla wearing a human skin suit. I don't even mind his unprofessionalism (he's an officer? Seriously? Alliance, wat r u doing). What I do mind is not being able to shut his nonsense down.

If your Fem Shep has such a problem with him, wouldn't she just have nothing to do with him. However, from their interaction (speaking from a Paragon Fem Shep), she seems to like it and doesn't mind throwing in her own digs.

I don't like that logic, to be honest. For meta reasons. Obviously it's a bit much to bring IRL into it, but I'm in the field of engineering. Naturally, this means that I'm surrounded by a bunch of nerdy blokes, so I'm used to casual flirtation and penis jokes. Hell, it's funny. People who get overly butthurt about such things should calm their ******. I mean really. I probably know more about the many behaviours of testicles than I really should. But saying a superior should just ignore their subordinates if they want to avoid disrespect? Yeah, I don't agree with that.

And that's the thing--you can tell him to call Shepard "Commander" (and can I just say his reaction to this makes me wish I could manguard him into dust?). This will save you from his terrible nickname, but you won't be spared from the idiocy of all his other comments. Point is, people wouldn't appreciate this if BroShep were forced to do this. Vega needs to get off my nuts.

I think I would find it more amusing if there were context behind it (like actually knowing who he is, for one). The first time I saw it, I went "Ahahahahawhat the **** did I just witness?"

Probably wouldn't mind as much if it weren't incessant.

At first I didn't, but him a Garus make a BROmance threesome with manshep. I just think it was kinda silly to introduce new characters in the final act like this when there were s many previous ones to chose from...

He was alright, but rarely used him. More interesting people are available in the missions.

His banter on the Normandy is sometimes solid gold though.

I expected to like him a lot more than I did.

He starts out strong enough, but there seems to be a point where it just levels off, and he doesn't really get any more compelling after that.

I like the character just fine, but he ends up being a lot lower on the list of the best characters (pretty much at the bottom if we stick to ME3 characters).

Yeah I agree, its like after his character builds to a point, that's it. feels unfinished.

I liked him but he came off too strong in the beginning, then completely disappears/ is utterly boring in the middle, then he confides in you and goes back too being boring. He desperately needed a loyalty mission or something. I feel like I got to know cortez way better.

On the spectrum of bros you invite to a party, it'd go

Blood bros - Wrex/Garrus
Upperclassmen - Thane/Mordin
Underclassmen - Grunt/Vega
Unstable associates - Zaeed, TiM
Wingwomen you might get with if you weren't friendzoned - Dr. Chakwas, Kasumi, Traynor
Dull coworker - Jacob
Exchange student who quickly works his way into the blood bros - Javik
Unsure who invited this guy- Kaidan

I didn't like his attitude at first. I also hated that FemShep flirts with him if you select paragon options. My Shepard would never do that. But as you get to know him, it seems like his arrogance  is a front for his insecurity. That talk with Shepard in her cabin was cute. I wish we got the chance to be a real mentor to Vega. But there just wasn't enough time for that to happen.

Vega is all talk, no action. He's wayy too much of a straight arrow to even try anything with Shepard and Shepard knows it. Her flirting is basically an act designed to get him all flustered.

I started off not liking him, ended up sort of liking him. I liked his Hispanic heritage, mixing it up a bit, and he could be pretty entertaining but he's ugly as sin
