On the spectrum of bros you invite to a party, it'd go

Upperclassmen - Thane/Mordin
Underclassmen - Grunt/Vega

Thane? Lol that's a good one. You almost had me.

Playing with the idea of the character making the kind of choice that Shepard gets faced with often, making the best choice based on the knowledge he had at the time, and making the result tragic and seemingly fruitless, was interesting. I liked Vega's character, but felt like they could have developed him more. For the screen time he got though, he was decent. Easily more interesting than any of the other new human cast members.

I'm wondering how much experience with military personnel most of these people calling him insubordinate have. That kind of good-natured banter is pretty par for the course except if the officer is a tightass. But I grew up in military housing, going to ship's picnics, and doing some military stuff as an adult.

The only time I see him get even close to insubordination is right at the beginning and even Paragon Shep shuts him down hard.

I can understand not liking the flirting part, but the flaw there is with Shepard's dialogue not with Vega's. Shepard should have had a dialogue line that shut that down for those that want to, but it doesn't exist.

I liked him. He's effective and he's funny.

I'm also puzzled by arguments that he doesn't add anything to the story. What character in ME3 does, besides Liara? Any or all of them could be dead before the game starts, after all.

I see where you're coming from but there are a variety of characters in the game and you're not really forced to interact with any of them.

Except I want to like the guy. Truly, I do. I don't mind that he's secretly a wild gorilla wearing a human skin suit. I don't even mind his unprofessionalism (he's an officer? Seriously? Alliance, wat r u doing). What I do mind is not being able to shut his nonsense down.

If your Fem Shep has such a problem with him, wouldn't she just have nothing to do with him. However, from their interaction (speaking from a Paragon Fem Shep), she seems to like it and doesn't mind throwing in her own digs.

I don't like that logic, to be honest. For meta reasons. Obviously it's a bit much to bring IRL into it, but I'm in the field of engineering. Naturally, this means that I'm surrounded by a bunch of nerdy blokes, so I'm used to casual flirtation and penis jokes. Hell, it's funny. People who get overly butthurt about such things should calm their ******. I mean really. I probably know more about the many behaviours of testicles than I really should. But saying a superior should just ignore their subordinates if they want to avoid disrespect? Yeah, I don't agree with that.

And that's the thing--you can tell him to call Shepard "Commander" (and can I just say his reaction to this makes me wish I could manguard him into dust?). This will save you from his terrible nickname, but you won't be spared from the idiocy of all his other comments. Point is, people wouldn't appreciate this if BroShep were forced to do this. Vega needs to get off my nuts.

The devs probably cut corners and didn't give Vega enough line variety if you still continue to recieve those comments even though you consistently keep a Renegade type releationship with him which I don't know since I reponded Paragon with my interaction with Vega except with the nickname thing. Like I said earlier though, from my perpective, Fem Shep was fine with it in my playthrough. In IRL, I agree that it wouldn't be apporpriate but this is ME.

I went in expecting to not care about him as a character, but I ended up enjoying having him along.  Other than the odd scene where Shep watches him do chin-ups, he was pretty well done.

Who brings a guy like Thane to a party? He'd probably be standing in a dark corner creeping everybody out.

He's arguably the best human squadmember in the trilogy.

He's DEFINITELY the best Alliance squadmember in the trilogy.

He was obviously beefcake added for the ladies. Not a bad squaddie, I had no problems with him. I thought I would because he was voiced by Freddy Prinze JR, but he did a decent job.

I didn't know about him going in but instantly recognized his character archetype which he didn't deviate much from. Quite forgettable, though yeah, best human squad member yet.

All true. He's pretty well a clone of half the guys in my platoon sense of humor wise. Heck, they even flirt with eachother. To me that was all just typical battle buddy sillyness. I can see why other femshep players would be upset though.

He's no Atton Rand, but he's a decent character. Better than Jacob "Boring-as-Hell" Taylor in ME2. Vega's got more personality, and his powers are actually useful.

Oh, and I like his Alliance Defender armor. I wish we could use that armor, especially in Multiplayer.

Vega was an interesting character, a very thoughtful individual.

Just because he has tattoos up and down his body and has a very bulky physique, does not make him a brain dead caveman. If you think a man can't have both intellect and masculinity, as well as a tinge of wisdom, than you are judging the book by it's cover.
When I heard on the David Letterman show that Vin Diesel was a big D&D fan, and played WoW for a little bit, I had to do a doubletake.. A big dude like him, one of the most badass motherFer's in the hollywood biz, plays D&D? And on top of that he reads Orson Scott Card novels and is familiar with H.P. Lovecraft.
Geeks are not what they use to be I guess.

I think the most fleshed out "masculin intellectual" character of any game was Saerevok from BGII: Throne of Bhaal. Dude was a badass.

I was skeptical of him at first, but I think he is awsum and funny.
An extra + when I found out he is played by the guy who played Fred in that Scooby Doo movie from my childhood.
