James Vega. You've played the game. Has your view of him changed?

I might feel differently if I got the Arrival DLC.

No you wouldn't since that adds no context whatsoever to his character since it's irrelevant.

Good to know. Then my answer is no. Vega is an annoying waste of screen time in addition to being the owner of obviously tiny testicles due to rampant steroid abuse.

After playing the game, has your opinion of him changed at all? Mine hasn't. I thought he'd be cool before and was a little put off by the "Jersey Effect"/"Mass Shore" comments. He's a legitimately good character. He's funny at times. And come on, carnage? I love that power. As I said he's funny, he has a interesting and dare I say compelling back story, and his ambient banter with Garrus and Javik make me laugh every time.

My thoughts on him exactly.

I think he was decent a lot better than I thought he was going to be, I think the only problem here is that in terms of character development and back story he's going up against a squad who's had about three whole games to expand on their characters it's a bit of an uphill battle and I'm surprised that he turned out decent.

For me it's like this:

Love - Garrus, Liara, Jack, Kasumi
Hate - Miranda, Ashley
The Middle - Everyone else

Well, I went from hating the idea pre-release to being just kind of neutral after playing. So . . . yes, I guess? He was just so bland. He's like a water ****** without the wine and cheese to go along with it and add flavor.

Maybe new players felt differently? Having played the entire series I had way more of a connection to the returning characters so he just stayed in the hangar bay, doing his pull-ups.

I thought him a little more annoying than I guessed. But other than that, Vega is a good chump.

I wished he was developed a little more though. I only had 1 discussion with him before he resorted to LOSTB-styled dialogue. >.>

so you never really talked to him all that often? He only does pull-ups when you first go down to talk to him.

I think most people would feel differently about James if they went down to talk to him after every mission.

I do this in every game, after every mission I explore the ship to see if ANYBODY has anything to say about it at all. Dont wanna miss anything.

Anyway I was totally surprised that James turned out to be a pretty cool character. I thought he was just going to be a douchey jersey shore new player character, but he actually turned out to be really funny (see garrus and James dick measuring contest) and actually pretty all around decent. Freddy Prince Jr. really did an awesome job.

I have to admit, I was ready to hate him from the get go. But yeah after hearing his mission dialogue, Normandy dialogue and what not...He's an ok character. Not the best, but ok.

why did you just describe my life ;(

I think he's an interesting guy. If a little over-the-top.

My apologies for unintentionally describing your life :) I also think Thane is interesting but he's definitely not high on my list of people I'd bring to a party.

I was looking forward to getting to know him in ME3. I found his character satisfactory, but I wish he had been a (gay) romance option. Alas.

Surprisingly, I ended up seeing him as a bro. When I was headed to Mars at first he seemed like a ****, but after/during the sparring match he started to grow on me. His banter with Cortez, talking with Garrus on who's the better soldier, his gambling, and the whole nickname thing just made him seem really likeable and believable.

Also, when he was in the kitchen making huevos rancheros, he became my bro. For that ONE reason!

I tried to stay away from spoilers before the game came out and I didn't read much on it for that reason so I had no idea who Vega was except that he was a squad mate. So I had no opinion on him before I played the game but I thought he was a good character and I enjoyed the banter he and Garrus would have on the Normandy.

I was open to what ever he was gonna be. Played and honestly, I though he was okay. Felt like a normal military dude.

No his behaviour is a shame for every soldier and for the uniform he was supposed to wear while in service. I wish i had the possibility to shot him on spot while thanks God at least i have the opportunity to beat the sh*t out of him

Yeah, don't know about being a shame to the uniform. Soliders are people too, they don't all act like
paragons of honour and disicipline, infact most i know, share some similarities with Vega's character.
Doesn't make them bad soliders and definetly doesn't make them a shame to the uniform.

I'd be interested to see what he does that people think is shameful or insubordinate.

The only thing I can remember was this and it wasn't even bad.  www.youtube.com/watch It was funny when Fem Shep calls him out on being all talk.

oh yeah, and this www.youtube.com/watch around 3;25 but that only happens if you accept the nickname he gives you. If you tell him to call you Commander, he says "I'll take your word for it."

These are the only things I can think of, so I really don't see what the problem some are having with him.:whistle:I don't recall all the comments that Random Jerkface implies Vega tells to Fem Shep.

There's a lot more hate going around than I thought.

I personally liked his character. Reminded me of some of my friends with the way he bantered and carried himself. One of them being in the Marines; he doesn't get any harsh treatment for acting "insubordinate". People are hard to please.

I felt more strongly about Garrus/Tali/Ash then I did about Vega, but I really thought he reflected well what an actual Grunt would act like.

So in your country soldiers address their commanding officers with stupid nicknames, do not wear uniform while in service and speak their mind while not permitted, challenging their officers at fistfight??? You sure have a problem of discipline in your military then. You don't need paragon of virtues just disciplined people. Turians are good example of how a good soldier should be. James is just a smartass that in real life armies would have been "corrected" by the drill sergeant the second day he arrived in the military. A bad character for a bad soldier.

I definitely liked him. The character was made to be an above average, run of the mill soldier, not some holier-than-thou crusader or jaded dip sh*t. Of the few real life marines I've met he seems to fit the bill. Gambling, tattoos, spirit, Gung-Ho dumb-assery. The perfect snapshot of a marine.

I am pleased to see a positive reaction to my question. yes there is plenty of hate but it has been generally positive.

My thoughts: Vega is a good character. he isn't insubordinate...the military isn't all the "YES SIR!!!" no-fun-allowed zone stuff it's portrayed as. Soldiers have off duty time where they watch TV, play video games, talk sports, joke around, yes even with their Commanding officers. And come on, James saluted a discharged former officer.

If you were a soldier assigned to protect your home city and a newly reinstated officer is telling you "we're leaving," wouldn't you be a bit hesitant? Earth is his home. For me, and I know bringing real life into this is tricky, but if I was on duty protecting Boston and my superior who wasn't even my superior officer a few hours prior all of a sudden told me "We're leaving," I'd at least argue a little. Eventually I'd come around and do my duty but if you claim you would blindly follow the orders to abandon your home then I guess you are more disciplined than I.
