James Vega. You've played the game. Has your view of him changed?

So yeah, not a favourite, but I thought he was inoffensive enough. Aside from his random insertion of Spanish words; I'll have to ask a Puerto Rican friend of mine if that's a common habit.

Didn't really have a problem with the character.
Would I take Zaeed over him?

And don't point me on comic or book or whatever is there "explaining" that. Bioware could do same trick and write some "Mass Effect: Explanation" and put evil casper there, like he's always was in series.
Other than that I'm fine with Vega, never understood all those "hate" movements.

Im curious though... are the Latinos more receptive to him as a character? im latino and i like it a lot.
I really didn't find his random addition of spanish words into conversation realistic at all. I have lived in NYC most of my life and have had many latin friends, I was raised by a Cuban mother, I married a Puerto Rican-Mexican, and my older brother's in-laws are Colombian. I don't know *anyone* who talks like Vega. It's obnoxious to me.
I also found the way he talked to FemShep very rude and unprofessional, even after choosing the "don't call me Lola" option. Being forced to "flirt" with him in the tattoo scene was my final straw, I'll be avoiding Vega as much as possible if/when I play again.
oh you are completely right when you say that no one talks like him xD I dont know how it is in USA though, im latino that lives in latin america and the random spanish words sounds pretty bad.
But still...im noticing that my friends who played the game are more receptive to him as a character than most people are.

My one and only complain to Vega is total lack of knowledge on the subject. I mean, who the heck is this guy and how come Shepard knows him and I do not?

between me 2 and 3 are 6 month... perhaps shepard knew him while he was "imprisoned" ?

After playing the game, has your opinion of him changed at all? Mine hasn't. I thought he'd be cool before and was a little put off by the "Jersey Effect"/"Mass Shore" comments. He's a legitimately good character. He's funny at times. And come on, carnage? I love that power. As I said he's funny, he has a interesting and dare I say compelling back story, and his ambient banter with Garrus and Javik make me laugh every time.
He still seems like a GOW and JS hybrid character, but I tolerate him. I don't outright despise him.

I thought he's gonna be a stupid character at first. But later, I learned to like him a lot (and his verbal exchanges with Cortez). He's a character done right and the voice acting is just great.

Alright, I'll rephrase: why it's not shown ingame? Like many other things in ME3 - it is not clear. Speculations, yeah...

I... had this amazingly long and longwinded dozen paragraphs about why Iadore the comradere between Shep and Vega and just all the love I have for him, but ... I got up in the middle of it to do some things and re read it and now I'm just content in saying that I loved the character and the direction they took him and the talented VO and (I'll stop gushing now ;p)

Thinking this was because I didn't take him on any main missions, I made a point of taking him on every single mission on my insanity playthrough and was completely let down as he'd spend cutscenes where, say, Garrus and Liara talk, standing in the background and maybe make a single line comment.
Not bad, but when the other characters have more interesting things to say when you take them on missions, he ends up staying on the Normandy.
