Gameplaywise, anyone else find the four treaties useless?

I summoned the armies on my first playthrough, but on my second I did the entire ending without the "help" of the armies, and didn't notice a difference.

You're missing the fact that you only use a few squads. The idea is that the main bulk of the darkspawn are busy fighting your armies. You don't really consider those 100 or 200 darkspawn being the whole Blight, do you?

There didn't have to be a gameplay mechanic withyour recruited army at all, it's just an added bonus. The treaties are there for story reasons.

But yeah, I only really used them because I wanted to see what they'd do. Didn't seem very helpful as a mechanic.  Note that I'm not saying having an army to break into Denerim isn't useful--it's necessary.

I think storyline wise, the armies from the treaties are off fighting the bulk of the Horde while you only call a fraction of them to break off and help you. As for game play wise, I think it depends on the difficulty level you're on, the armies wont win the battle for you (otherwise what point is there for you being in that area?) but they do help in some parts.

I found the golems useful in the archdemon and some of the tougher parts near the royal palace due to thier durability. They'd soak up a ton of damage while my party eliminates the ones causing it. I think the point is to use the army that synchs well with your party. Melee armies help screen enemies for a more ranged heavy group, and using mages or dalish can give some ranged hitting power while you're melee run in and hold the enemy in place. Then again its moot if you're at a difficulty where you can breeze through the lot of the darkspawn without so much as batting an eye.

You missed the part where I said "Gameplaywise".

Last game I finished I had Dwarves w/ Legion of the Dead. They cleared the map for me. No need for anyone else to fight really, including my character and companions. Once we got to the arch demon I used mages and companions, but I don't think the mages were really necessary.

You don't get many Legion of the Dead (I think I saw three), but they do an insane amount of damage to non-Elite Boss level units.

Point taken.
Then they are there just as balance option. You can make the game harder or easier by using them or not.

All I notice is that using them makes my game run even more slowly during the enemy-infested final onslaught.

*pets her laptop* I know, I know, you're already trying so hard...

I get that a little too, and I'm running on a pretty good system.

I found them useless until you met the archedemon and summon mages or archers because I can kill alone the ennemies with my team, so I do not need those armies.

But but, if you didnt go running round gathering your armies your hands would fall off...

Err sorry, I mean you would get to Denerim at around level 10 and die to the Archdemon. You have to gather your armies, using the treaties to get to level 20 so you can solo it all.

Oh dear god no, if the fights had been any bigger my computer would have exploded. During the worst bits I got a fifteen second lag before any hit or spell would take effect. Playing on a bad computer makes me want to quit life.

I actually found the armies to be very useful. The fights in the Denirim at the end aren't impossible to do alone but calling your armies in to assist really does help.

They are necessary cause I want an unit of badass dwarves/werewolves at my side when fighting.

An atheistic choice on my part.

Asthetic choice...

Although technically Dwarves dont believe in gods, and I guess the werewolves dont either as they follow the Lady of the Forest...

So maybe your right it is an Atheistic choice :)
