We're not going to hear anything illuminating any time soon. Everything will be filtered through Marketing, which means it will be stripped of any actual information. Marketing's job isn't to inform it's customer, or anything remotely like that, they exist solely to build excitement for upcoming products. And to do damage control when products cause any sort of negative publicity. But informing or satisfying the customer is really not part of that mission, it's assumed that the product will satisfy the customer and certainly informing the customer is often seen as counterproductive, because the realities of creating content for this console generation in this economy and business climate are not very Marketing-friendly.
So, my advice to everyone with regards to anything related to the Mass Effect franchise is: Lower Your Expectations. We wouldn't be in this predicament if we had refused to believe the party line we were sold with regards to Mass Effect 3. If we had been smart, we would have realized that ME3 would be just as limited in scope as Mass Effect 2, with the same lack of variables. I mean, let's face it, your "big decisions" in Mass Effect 2 amount to a few different clips being played during the Suicide Mission, and not very seamlessly at that. Of
course they were going to recycle resources for the endgame of ME3—and every minute of the game leading up to that ending. For my part, I am much more disappointed by the lack of replayability of ME3 due to the "placeholder" characters who dutifully perform the actions of the "dead" characters in a mind-numbingly similar way. I spent so much time crafting an array of very different save games, in eager anticipation of all the different ways that ME3 would play out as a result of Shepard's decisions. What a fool I was! To think that those changes would amount to anything more than slightly different conversations with slightly different characters in the exact same sequence of events, well, I just feel like an idiot for ever thinking it would be more than that.
