In fairness, and to be clear: Mass Effect 3 DOES NOT suck. Granted, there are bugs such as the occasional crash-to-desktop after the cutscene of the Normandy escaping from Mars, or the crash-to-desktop after viewing the Prothean recording in Priority: Eden Prime, or the "Vanguard Glitch" in Multiplayer, minor things really, and expected (unfortunately) in projects as complex and grand a scale such as this. But Mass Effect 3 *IS* a VERY GOOD game nonetheless.
So, let's exercise a little objectivity here; the problem many, if not most, have with is the last 10-15 minutes of the game. Essentially, EVERYTHING after being hit by Harbinger's giant laser.
(We should have listened to Wrex on that one.)
Let's also keep from fueling any further "hate" until we hear what BioWare has to say at PAX. There's more than enough of that going around already, and does nothing but make us all feel worse, and some folks look bad. BioWare has given us brilliant games in the past: KotOR, ME1, ME2, etc., which we've enjoyed. What's ~1.5 days to hear what they have for us?
Right?
In fairness: Mass Effect 3 DOES NOT suck

I don't think anyones saying it outright sucks. Its a solid game with some rather large problems. The ending is the biggest one.
Now that the anger has been reigned in somewhat as we all wait for PAX and people have started replaying ME3, the other problems start to reveal themselves.
The sub par beginning, and the utterly useless Journal are just a couple. And yes, that bloody face import. Some of us were a little bit attached to our Shepards after two games, you know.
But the game as a whole doesn't suck, and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who truly thinks this.

Yes, the face import thing was an irritant, but compare that with what you see in Bethesda games.

Few people have said the game sucks. That's not the point.
If the game sucked, and the ending sucked, nobody would give a damn. It's the precise fact that Mass Effect has been absolutely FANTASTIC from the very first game right up until the last ten minutes in ME3 that's gotten most people so riled up.
I don't know why bioware can't just admit that. It must feel good to be so arrogant.
As for their announcement at PAX, meh. They'll give us the same two minute, canned PR response they've done all along. The clarification DLC will put up some technobabble for why the relays DIDN'T murder everyone this time when they exploded, it'll have a few lines of "and Liara lived always mourning for Shepard" after the Red/Green/Blue ending and that'll be it.

Those are a very important 15 minutes. One hundred hours of story... and it all collapses in favor of an ending that tried to be "deep."

It's not even the whole of the last fifteen minutes - Anderson's death scene was wonderful. It's mostly just Casper the not so friendly catalyst.

In terms of pure game mechanics, the first game is by far the weakest. I'm not sure how this is even arguable.Ville L wrote...

The ending sucks. The first thing you learn in just about any creative writing class is that it doesn't matter how good your story is if the ending sucks. Why is this you ask? Because the ending is the last impression you leave on your reader. If your ending sucks, it taints the rest of the story because there was no proper resolution. So yes, I can honestly say, with the ending as it stands presently, it kind of ruins the entire trilogy. It belittles everything the player has done prior and that alone is enough to make a player who has invested a lot of time and energy into the previous parts of the game to not have a desire to play it anymore. Why is this so hard for some people to understand? It's a basic rule in writing even.

So if a man behaves properly throughout his life, then go on a murderous rampage at age 80, decimating everything in his local city, we should let him go because he only sucked for the last few days of his life?
Ending is EVERYTHING. Nothing else matters.

That's like saying a family day trip where you go to an awesome breakfast place watch a movie, have an awesome lunch, go to a theme park, have an awesome dinner and then your family is murdered by a man in a clown suit was an great day.
When I look back at that day how do you think I will feel about it?

Yeah you're right. Mass Effect 2 and 3 TOTALLY expanded upon the planet exploration, character and weapons modification. It's not like they arbitrarily introduce a new game play mechanic so shooter fans can feel more like home. The Charnel Expanse wrote...
