This...
I don't understand the "Less wheel conversations" thing, because it's blatantly untrue...
They just don't have the same dialog wheel you've exhausted all options on staring you in the face when the character has nothing new or revelent to say...

They've added frequent ambient conversations ON TOP of the periodic wheel conversations present in the previous games where characters would quickly run out of things to say after five or six visits...

People who think there are fewer conversations are just objectively and painfully wrong...

Oh noes, I don't hear Garrus say, "Can it wait for a bit, I'm in the middle of some callibrations" after every mission...

I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that people feel less agency to have discussions with the characters on their own terms. I am fairly certain that all of the characters have more dialogue than in previous games.

People had that same perception in Dragon Age 2. There was a lot of talk about how you never really got to have those long discussions with your characters. David Gaider righty commented that it simply wasn't true, there was both more ambient dialogue and more one on one dialogue wheel dialogue. The presentation of it, however, through the use of "companion quests" lead to that assertion.

Think of it like you're eating a REALLY good cake. And you love this cake more then the others you've tried. Then in the final piece, you find a live cockroach in it. Sure eating the cake before you knew the cockroach was in it, was amazing! But, now that you know the roach was in it.. It's just ruined..

And you probably won't be buying from the same baker again >.>

DA2 had a FAR better character system...........DAO wreaks of talking codex entry syndrome as well as the lack of plot participation for most of the characters. DAO characters lack development for the most part, unlike DA2. This shows the strength of this ambient dialogue and companion quests.

Really, fans should admit the old Bioware style of characterization is highly flawed.....characters became codexes instead of being characters, they lacked plot participation outside the dueteragonist and the tritagonist, characters lacked good character development outside the first two squaddies, or that its forced through dialogue and not plot events, and the characters are simply one or two dimensional compared to Biowares newer characters.....hell just because you have a lot of dialogue options don't make them more dimensional.

Journal is a mess.
Press A for ALL the things is annoying )for some people).
Auto-Dialogue is also a problem for some.

But the game is still fun so you somehow play it.

Then the ending comes...

I always feel like the TV show analogy is more apt. TV Shows are long serialized narratives. TV Shows often ask you to get incredibly connected with the characters. TV Shows often kill characters for narrative reasons.

I mean there is a reason why Mass Effect 2 is so often compared to a season of TV.

the main difference is that in mass Effect's case there is player agency, which gets people even MORE invested. So that usual anger when the Sopranos cuts to black, nothing is explained on the Island or Battlestar fallas apart(also right in the end) doesn't carry over.

Its certainly not great, I'm disappointed in bugs and lack of content.
The biggest one for are

- Lack of side missions
- No Mako or Hammerhead
- Certain characters have bugs
- The journal, it also forces me to start at the bottom.
- You need to import a ME3 character to get level 10 weapons.
- Lack of answers for anything

It doesn´t suck as such it had some fantastic story elements like tuchanka and rannoch.. but i didnt like the way decided to dumb it down for first time players (repeating some past events from me1 and 2 in dialogs, overly easy moral choice system etc.) In my opinion if they were going to dumb it down, maybe they shouldn´t have done it in the THIRD GAME.

As I've had more time to think about it, my score has lowered. I'd give it a 7 or a 7.5. Bad animations, combat is still clunky, auto dialog, the entire third act was well below the standard set in the rest of the game (hint, your game shouldn't peak in the first act), bad fetch quest, limited sidequest, almost no side characters, sprites everywhere, and a terrible journal. That's not even factoring in the ending.

Speaking of endings, I'm curious about what some of the gaming sites rated the replay value at.
