The ending sucks, and ruins the memory of the entire trilogy for me.

How's that?

Sucks to be you

I'm really disappointed by the lack of dialogue options, which was the main draw for me in ME1 and ME2. If they (somehow) do something about that and the ending, then all my other complaints are extremely minor.

Those 2 complaints though really make it hard to have any desire to replay ME3.

It's good to know that there are a number of folks who are able to compartmentalize, and enjoyed the same 99% of the game, as I have.

As far as I'm concerned, everything after getting hit by Harbinger's giant laser is either Indoctrination Theory, near-death hallucination, or I grabbed a batch of Medi-gel from the FOB without checking the expiration date. Either way, those ending sequences, to me, are the end of the Mass Effect 3 core "game", but not even close to the end of Commander Shepard's Mass Effect "story".

As far as DLCs go, it's cool to have "optional" DLCs, which enrich the story, such as the DLCs for ME1 and ME2. But "required" DLCs are uncool.

I don't think anyones saying it outright sucks. Its a solid game with some rather large problems. The ending is the biggest one.

Now that the anger has been reigned in somewhat as we all wait for PAX and people have started replaying ME3, the other problems start to reveal themselves.

The sub par beginning, and the utterly useless Journal are just a couple. And yes, that bloody face import. Some of us were a little bit attached to our Shepards after two games, you know.

But the game as a whole doesn't suck, and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who truly thinks this.

Oh but just you wait till PAX is over and BW has officially told everyone that there won't any alterations or continuations to the ending =) Fun times!

So if a man behaves properly throughout his life, then go on a murderous rampage at age 80, decimating everything in his local city, we should let him go because he only sucked for the last few days of his life?

Ending is EVERYTHING. Nothing else matters.

Of course,in a 30 hours game, the only thing that matter is the last 5 minutes.

When that 5 minutes negates the previous 90 hours of play... yes... it does matter.

I agree that we do lose sight of the better parts with all this hate. There ARE good story moments (even with the generally worse writing) and has the best gameplay of the 3, to the point where it can stand on it's own and doesn't need to be propped up by the other elements.

Actualy a lot of people are saying that it's the entire tilogy which is ruined, so over 100 hours are ruined by 5 minutes.

People don't quite get the "it's the journey that matters" thing.

IT's especially interesting if you look at it from the perspective of a full life. Believe me, the ending, always going to suck in that.

Man, I tell ya, tears started flowing when Mordin said, "I would have liked to run tests on the seashells."

And that shared prayer with Thane.

And Legion's ultimate self-sacrifice for his people.

I agree with OP.

Having completed Thessia, I actually said to myself "this might be the best game I've ever played".

The ending surely changed that, but it's still a great game. The proper perspective might just be hard to find after the massive betrayal the ending was.

GOTY despite some issues (face import bug, too much auto dialogue...) until the last 10 minutes. I don't know what to think anymore

The ME trilogy is probably the best trilogy ever on video games. Its impossible that 5 minutes,no matter how bad they are,are enough to destroy all the good moments that i haved in the games. Its impossible for me,anyway.

It's like driving on a lovely country road, having a picnic, enjoying good company and good food and drink. 99.5% of your trip is just grand. Then you go off a cliff because there as no 'road out' sign.

The game itself? Yes you are right.

The first 99% was actually pretty good.

The 1% however is the only thing that gets stuck in my head.

Having a game which is 99% good, is not good enough, specially when they promissed one thing and then delivered another... (like no A, B. or C, option, etc.)

How's the face import working for you?

When was the last time you played a game without bugs?

Yes, the face import thing was an irritant, but compare that with what you see in Bethesda games.

Bethesda games Have Good endings at least.... and their bugs are quite funny i must say...
Biowares bugs funny? PFFFT they are like lionhead's fable 3 bugs..... not funny and waste more time then they are worth.... Getting kicked off a gold match after almost finishing because i "Lost connection to EA" yeah thats fun So much fun...

Then you are lucky. I agree that the ME trilogy is the best trilogy ever. However, it only took 5 minutes to obliterate the awesome world they created. :(

Honestly at this point, my headcanon is just to totally ignore that the ending ever took place. Makes it much easier. :pinched:

Oblivion and Skyrim had.. good endings...

Not being able to complete a ton of quests in all their games are "funny bugs".
