Well, I got a late start on the game so I was already hearing rumors (though trying to avoid outright spoilers). I suppose there was still some lingering "how bad could it be?" and for that, the first "uh oh" moment was when I reached the Citadel having never seen any evidence of my war assets doing anything useful. I think there was ONE cutscene that showed an asari and a turian working together, and they got taken out by a laser, so... "yay, intergalactic cooperation?".

I had inklings of it during the Earth mission... but it honestly didn't get my "uh-oh" until the beam of light hit Shep. That was a big, BIG UH-OH and immediatly turned to nerd raging. XD

Shepard faints upon reaching the control panel, "****, we're going to lose the galaxy... Well, awesome sad ending, looks like Command Shepard isn't invincible after a-"
...
Then that platform underneath him starts to rise,
"oh? Wha... Wait..."

And then the kid shows up and ''options'' are presented.
"Aw, crap."
"Oh no..."
"It can't be that..."

The game ends, and the rest was Michael Scott's ''NO GOD! PLEASE NO"

Seriously? The turret on the bridge... that cut immersion from me like a flamethrower. Felt like a bad Gears of War reference.

Everyone straight up running at the beam like grunts in halo. Really? All that technology and to get the beam, we straight up just run at it? Couldn't the fleet have spared a couple ships to free up that airspace over the Reaper if it's so darn important?

That and Marauder Shields.

When i first arrived on the citadel after the charge at the end of london. Suddenly seeing the gameplay boil down to holding one key on my keyboard for nearly half a minuit set off some alarm bells...

When they didn't handle the Thessia snatch as gracefully as they should have. They pulled the same trick on Virmire with Saren, but the fight never felt as much like I was kicking the crap out of Saren only to have him pull a gunship out of his butt to save himself. It was handled much better. The Thessia moment just was handled very poorly; it felt contrived and made Kai Leng off as a weak sauce villain. That was my first uh-oh.

Then when it became clear that London was indeed the final sequence and instead of an epic ending a la ME2, they resorted to seeing how many Reapers they could cram on a map ... it was my second uh-oh.

And then pretty much everything after the beam when we veered into slo-mo ... yeah, it was big UH-OH from then on.

When my Shepherd got stripped of squadmates, powers, weapons and armor and she was limping around I knew things were gonna kinda suck. That's pretty much a one-way street in games, when you know you're near the end. I thought it might end in some sort of dodge-the-laser fight against Harby. That would have been pretty lame. Unfortunately it was TIM being turned into Saren 2.0 and the magical appearance of Star Babby and Deus Ex 2.0. My mind was absolutely shattered.

Actually the more I think about it, my first real "uh-oh" moment was when the reapers brought the Citadel to Earth to protect it, but then left a big bright door open to take us right to it.

Things took a bad turn as soon as Hackett radioed that the Crucible wasn't doing anything

When I heard that the Citadel was the macguffin (again) and that it had been moved to Earth (somehow). Those things worried me, but I kept trucking, and overall the Earth mission wasn't bad (if honestly kinda dull compared to Tuchunka and Sur'Kesh outside of the amazing pre-battle segment where you can chat up your squad). Then Harbinger came and it was a race against him, which really got my blood pumping. Then we got to the beam, and....you know the rest.

When Shepard got hit by Harbinger's beam and all my armor was destroyed. I knew that either 1) I wouldn't be fighting an epic battle, or 2) if I did, Shepard would die.

This was my thought as well. I was REALLY upset that my armor got so messed up and immediatly thought "well ****! how am i suppose to fight now?!"

but I had faith that bioware would deliver some epic sauce...

wow...

Yeah, definitely.  I was also in denial when the Catalyst crap was going on.  The whole time I was just smug and thinking "Hah. As if.  This isn't the ending yet... this is just ridiculous and Shepard would never go along with this.  There's gotta be another way.  Something is going to happen that nobody expected, and Shepard will save the day -- maybe die -- but this kid is definitely not getting what he wants!"

The end of the cerberus base when you find that the citadel has been moved to Earth. I was like "what a hamfisted way for the writers to bring the fight to fight to Earth.

When Shep got hit by Harbinger's beam, woke up alone (where are his squadmates?) and in shredded armor. Seemed like a straight copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 when Snake's suit was shredded and he was reduced to a snail's pace. That was my first warning that something is going wrong.

Then Shep went up the platform and met the Star Child. That was my second warning.

My worst fears were confirmed when he gave me a choice of RGB.

When they first introduced discovering blueprints for the Crucible on Mars. Although I didn't want to make any assumptions considering I'd only been playing for about 20 minutes, I couldn't help the little voice in the back of my head screaming "MacGuffin! MACGUFFIN!"

Probably my first one was when they mentioned the idea that the Reapers were servants of the Cycle, but not in charge of it. . .

I actually thought that's a sequel hook. Shepard trilogy ends, the Reapers are stopped, but far greater evil lurks on the outskirts of the galaxy! The "uh-oh" moment wasn't until the London mission, when you get to the phone-everyone area. Even then, I didn't suspect just how comically wrong they will get it. Everything after the beam was just me believe less and less in what I'm seeing, to the point I don't even remember which ending I picked. Thus, my canon ending is "Shepard did something, then died"

I don't get this complaint. There are literally macguffins throughout the series.

Until the elevator and go out to the open space and I said to myself "what the hell, it's the space and shep is not wearing helmet" ... and then saw the kid and confirm "ahh f*ck it, they screw the ending"

Hovering elevator of light.

It was the elevator that caused my disappointment, at that point I expected an epic struggle to get to the controls and shut down the reapers, I guess I should have realised a lot sooner, like the unlimited ammo when taking out the husks and Marauder Shields.

Honestly "The Citadel has been moved to Earth!" was a red flag, but I ignored it at the time.
